Divine Lady Tanya Lu
High Goddess Vivian Lu instructed the attendants to invite her in.
She hadn’t even stepped inside, but her laughter preceded her: “From all the way out here, I can smell the wine—clearly there’s a feast going on!”
A graceful, slender figure appeared at the doorway. She wore a water-red Divine Robe with a sheer, transparent shawl draped over it, her hair styled in a chic, eye-catching bun, adorned with clever little ornaments. The whole look was charming and lively—a complete contrast to High Goddess Vivian Lu’s serene elegance.
“Come, have a seat,” High Goddess Vivian Lu said with a smile. “Someone, bring another set of tableware.”
Divine Lady Tanya Lu sat down, glanced at Lucia Lu and the other two, and teased, “Well, well! It’s only been two or three years, but haven’t you all grown so much more mature?”
“They really have,” High Goddess Vivian Lu said, looking at them with pride. “Thanks to His Majesty the Divine Emperor’s guidance. Just now, Ethan and your brother-in-law tested them on military strategy, and they weren’t intimidated at all.”
“Impressive!” Divine Lady Tanya Lu laughed. “I heard Lucia took first place—is that true?”
“It’s true, Aunt Tanya,” Luna Lian answered. “My brother came in second-to-last.”
“Do you have to drag me into this?” Ryan Lu grumbled, looking thoroughly defeated.
Luna Lian just grinned.
“Luna, how did you do on the exam?”
“I ranked fifteenth,” Luna Lian replied.
“Hmm…” Divine Lady Tanya Lu glanced at Lucia, then said, “You’d better step up your game! Try to catch up to your big sister!”
“Oh, forget it!” Luna Lian looked at Lucia with admiration. “My sister excels at everything—there’s no way I could ever catch up!”
“Oh, come on! You’re great too—why so discouraged?”
“It’s not discouragement,” Luna Lian said. “I just know my own limits! Besides, why live so stressed, always comparing yourself to others? Do what you can, enjoy it—that’s enough.”
“Exactly! Well said!” Ryan Lu gave her a thumbs-up.
Ethan Lu snorted, “Nice way to save face!”
Ryan Lu quickly put his thumb away.
A Divine Attendant brought tableware and food for Divine Lady Tanya Lu.
Divine Lady Tanya Lu saw the elegant porcelain tableware set before her and frowned. “What is this? Switch it out for my usual spirit-jade set!”
“Divine Lady, that spirit-jade set was accidentally broken a few days ago,” the Divine Attendant explained.
“Broken? Who broke it?” Tanya demanded, her brows furrowing.
“It was… me, Divine Lady,” the junior immortal said in a guilty whisper. “I broke it by accident while washing dishes.”
“Can’t even wash a bowl? What use are you?” Tanya’s eyes flashed with severity, her whole aura imposing. “I ought to have you dismissed!”
The junior immortal was so frightened her legs gave out; she dropped to her knees. “Please, Divine Lady, have mercy! I’ll be more careful from now on—I promise I won’t make another mistake!”
“Let me tell you, don’t think you can take advantage just because High Goddess Vivian Lu is gentle! If I catch any of you little wretches trying to steal or cheat, I’ll skin you alive!”
“Never! Never! It really was broken, and the shards were given to High God Ethan Lu,” the junior immortal said, her eyes brimming with tears.
Lucia Lu frowned.
Her grandparents had passed away early, so her aunt—Divine Lady Tanya Lu—was raised by High Goddess Vivian Lu.
High Goddess Vivian Lu had always looked after her with great care.
And with her husband gone so young, Tanya was, in truth, a widow.
Vivian Lu, feeling for her only sister, doted on her even more.
That’s why she always kept Tanya close as a companion.
But Lucia Lu couldn’t stand her.
She had no sense of boundaries.
Just like now—without a word from the actual hosts, Tanya was taking it upon herself to scold the household attendants.
