"What!? Lingdang is here!?" Zhang Zhaocai jumped off the bed and rushed out, but was grabbed by Tang Shi.
Tang Shi chattered on: "My son is just the type women like. Zhaocai, you have to keep your composure; don't let that little girl charm you with a few words. You have to keep her interested and get some benefits from her! She's Su Li's disciple, and will be wealthy in the future! Although she's not as good as Yindou, who is from a rich family, I mean to match you with Yindou. As for Lingdang, she might not be the perfect match for my son, but it's acceptable... Hey, Zhaocai, why did you run off without listening to me?"
Zhang Zhaocai, feeling nervous, rushed out and opened the door. Sure enough, he saw Lingdang at the door holding the trap he had made to catch earth eggs.
Zhang Zhaocai looked at Lingdang's pretty and delicate face, and his mind went blank; he couldn't say a word.
Lingdang rolled her eyes at him, annoyed, and shoved the trap into his arms. "Here, your stuff. I specifically brought it to you."
Zhang Zhaocai was thrilled that Lingdang had specially brought him something, his hands trembling.
Lingdang looked at Zhang Zhaocai, wondering what he was thinking. She sighed; that mischievous kid had too many tricks. Today she had to shut him up to stop rumors about her and the earth egg spreading outside.
So Lingdang smiled and said, "Ah, Zhaocai, I just got lost while taking a walk in the woods. My master sent the earth egg to find me, and you happened to see it. There's nothing between us, so don't spread rumors in the village. If my reputation is ruined, how will I face people?"
Zhang Zhaocai listened to Lingdang's words in disbelief.
Could it be that she came all the way to explain because she was afraid he misunderstood? Could it mean she liked him?
The joy from this thought overwhelmed Zhang Zhaocai, making his head spin. He felt like he was walking on clouds, his eyes drifting dreamily.
Lingdang saw Zhang Zhaocai's absent-minded look and got angry. She thought, "I've explained nicely, but this stupid kid isn't listening!?"
Fine, if you don't listen to soft words, then hard words it is! Sister can handle a mischievous kid like you!
Lingdang rolled up her sleeves and immediately switched back to her usual feisty self. She slapped Zhang Zhaocai on the forehead: "You silly kid, what are you daydreaming about? Didn't you hear what I said!?"
Zhang Zhaocai was snapped back to reality by Lingdang's slap, his forehead burning with pain. He held his head, feeling the sting like it was on fire, the flames seeming to burn right into his heart. He thought to himself, "This is true happiness. If I get slapped a few more times, would that make me even happier?"
Lingdang put her hands on her hips and said, "Zhang Zhaocai, I warn you, if you spread rumors about me, I'll beat you to death!"
As she spoke, Lingdang grabbed Zhang Zhaocai's arm and kicked him twice on the butt.
She really hit me again, how wonderful!
Zhang Zhaocai held his butt and cried out twice, his happiness index skyrocketing.
"Do you still dare to spread rumors?" Lingdang grabbed Zhang Zhaocai's collar and pulled him closer.
Up close, Zhang Zhaocai smelled a faint but pleasant fragrance from Lingdang. He had never smelled anything so nice before.
Zhang Zhaocai couldn't help but inhale deeply, letting the fragrance fill his lungs.
He looked up at Lingdang's angry, threatening face and blurted out unconsciously, "I- I'll spread rumors. I'll spread them now. If you have the guts, come and hit me!"
