Awakening of Dread

12/15/2025

A wisp of smoke drifted past my face. I felt as if I saw something, but couldn't confirm it at that moment. Just then, Xu Fu clapped his hands and burst out laughing.

"Just as I expected. I think we should hurry and take the Infernal Judge's head."

At this moment, the black shroud carrying the thirteen members of the Immortality Society moved south. Suddenly, a plant with a mouth sprang up from the ground and lunged at them.

With a thunderous crash, the plant was instantly reduced to pulp. Xu Fu glanced at Isabelle Frost.

"Miss Yi, you'd better keep those Four Sacred Beasts properly restrained. If they get loose, the Taoists will be wiped out. If the Wraithlord emerges, we'll still need their strength, won't we? Hahaha! For now, we can happily go and take the Infernal Judge's head."

As he spoke, I saw the distant passage glowing fiery red. Suddenly, golden light erupted, and masked figures—green-faced, red-faced, and black-faced—appeared on the long slope. With a chorus of battle cries and a surge of Yin energy, the Hell Troopers charged forth, led by Marshal Leopard and the Twin Reapers. The three Underworld Marshals led the assault against the Immortality Society.

"Troublesome. Let me send you all home myself."

Xu Fu clenched his fist as he spoke, but Phantom Sage blocked their path.

"Tell your people to pull back. It's not worth losing them now. Soon, they'll have far bigger problems to worry about."

"No. We have to move quickly, or someone will interfere."

Phantom Sage looked at Xu Fu in confusion.

"If you're talking about my father, he could never leave the Bone Realm. We've already made a deal with Tan Tian."

Xu Fu shook his finger, then looked at me.

"You all saw it just now. I tried to attack Rachel Lan and was stopped—lost an arm in the process. That meddler will be a real problem and could ruin our plans."

My heart skipped a beat as I looked at Xu Fu. He stared coldly back at me.

"Think carefully about Rachel Lan. We could join forces to deal with the Wraithlord. What are those Underworld Court bastards to you? Over centuries, haven't their crimes matched ours?"

I didn't reply to Xu Fu. Suddenly, with a violent surge, Xu Fu and his thirteen joined the fray. The Immortality Society, previously suppressed by the three Underworld Marshals, began to fight back fiercely thanks to their arrival.

The Twin Reapers were held back by Xu Fu, Andrew Dale, and Nathan Wills, while Marshal Leopard was restrained by Luke Ling and Lao Chongyuan. The Hell Troopers were no match for the Immortality Society. Soon, I saw several Golden Mask Men rush into the fray.

The scene turned chaotic. Isabelle Frost watched the distant battle with bitter frustration as countless Immortality Society members charged toward the entrance to the Underworld Court.

Three Underworld Marshals and five Immortality Society members were locked in a fierce struggle, but it was clear Xu Fu's side was gradually gaining the upper hand.

I gripped my bow tightly, staring at the chaos before me. I didn't know what to do—what I was even capable of anymore. Nothing could stop it now. The Emperor God had succeeded. Though I hated to admit it, every faction had been successfully restrained by them, unable to move.

The Infernal Judges of the Underworld Court couldn't leave Hell, while in the outer Netherhell, the strange beasts attacked. Countless ghosts and the entire retinue of Ghost Sovereigns had plunged into the war in Netherhell. In the Living World, the Wraithlord's appearance had tied up all the Ghost Sovereigns and sects.

A grief beyond words slowly welled up inside me. I raised my head as the crimson wings on my back gradually turned violet, my eyes darkening to purple-black. I charged toward the place where Xu Fu and the others were fighting.

No matter what I think or do, it's useless. All I can do is throw myself into the battle.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of everything."

Suddenly I stopped in midair. Violet flames burned around me, sparks flying. I pressed a hand to my head, bewildered, and looked around in disbelief. I heard Zhang Qingyuan's voice.

With a deafening crash, a mass of black substance appeared, instantly destroying the slope. Violent gusts swept past. My eyes widened—it was Ghost Painting Book Immortal and his group. The tide of battle began to shift.

Kane landed among the Immortality Society with a furious roar, splitting the battlefield. A wisp of black energy appeared beside me—Deathcurse had arrived. I looked at him.

"Rachel Lan, stop using your power."

I nodded and tried to calm myself. My wings slowly faded away. Then I felt a strange movement—a black wolf appeared beneath me, and I sat on its back.

"Leave this to us. Rachel Lan, head to the Bone Realm. Don't worry, we won't let Xu Fu and his people succeed."

Just then, a stream of light swept by, and the surroundings instantly transformed into a sea of orange-yellow clouds. Ghost Painting Book Immortal smiled, raising his great brush and sweeping it through the air.

"Outsiders like you shouldn't meddle at a time like this. Everything has already been set in stone."

As Xu Fu spoke, he suddenly shot into the air. I heard a sharp crack, and with a flash of green light, Xu Fu transformed into a giant falling photograph. But immediately, black currents seeped from the photo. In an instant, Xu Fu shattered the image, breaking free. Duan Wentian and Cao Wanzhi attacked him together.

With a thunderous crash, Kane was grabbed by Andrew Dale and slammed straight into the ground.

"I heard Qingyuan's voice."

I spoke, my heart filled with mixed emotions. Deathcurse looked at me and smiled.

"Don't hesitate, and don't be confused, Rachel Lan. Leave this to us."

As Deathcurse spoke, he drifted downward, instantly transforming into a blazing beast that rammed Andrew Dale aside. I turned my head, and the beast beneath me carried me swiftly northward.

Soon I left H City far behind, but I could still see those giant beasts in the distance. Even from so far away, I could see them struggling relentlessly.

The wind howled past my ears as I clenched my fists. Now, all I could do was wait for Yin Choujian and the others to fully suppress the Wraithlord and deliver a fatal blow with the new Blood Fiend power born within me.

Everything I saw in my dreams before now means nothing to me. When Xu Fu attacked me, the hand that stopped him—I thought maybe it was Zhang Qingyuan, but then I believed it was Isabelle Frost. After hearing Zhang Qingyuan's voice, I finally felt at ease.

Soon I saw the Bone Realm, nearly swallowed by black, terrifying energy. From afar, I spotted the battle raging on the mountainside—it had begun again. This time, Tan Tian had joined the fight. Just like before, Ji Yuner and Lord Shenyang were still attacking the Wraithlord. Tan Tian would occasionally target the Wraithlord's weak spots for sudden strikes.

But all the other Ghost Sovereigns were nowhere to be seen. When I landed atop the mountain beside the cliff, my parents hurried over to me.

"Ruoxi, what happened over there?"

I nodded and began to explain. In just a brief moment, a huge change had occurred. My father smiled helplessly and shook his head.

"Whether we live or die depends on whether we can defeat the Wraithlord. If we can't, everything will be over."

As my father spoke, my mother shot him a dissatisfied glare. I smiled and shook my head.

"I heard Qingyuan's voice."

There were still quite a few Taoists left. They looked grim. Though I'd only been gone a short while, it seemed Yin Choujian and the others weren't having much luck in their fight.

Meanwhile, the Wraithlord handled the three attackers with ease, as if he were enjoying himself.

"Whatever power you possess, use it all. This is the final celebration."

The Wraithlord roared with manic excitement, blocking all of Ji Yuner and Lord Shenyang's attacks, and shattered Tan Tian's body.

At that moment, I felt a strange sensation in my left arm. I quickly rolled up my sleeve.

"Get ready, Rachel Lan. The outcome could be decided in an instant. I'll send you straight to the Wraithlord's side. All you need to do is use the power I told you about before."

I watched as a human face appeared on my left arm. My parents looked at me, moved. I smiled with joy.

"It's okay, Mom and Dad."

Yin Choujian and the others' disappearance might be closely tied to the imminent kill strike. I asked my father, but he just told me they'd been gone for a long time, and during that period, those three had been holding back the Wraithlord.

Though I smiled, I couldn't help but feel tense. I gazed quietly at the battle unfolding in front of me—this kind of power was utterly unbeatable.

During this time, I gradually understood what this new Blood Fiend power was. If Yin Choujian's earlier Blood Fiend power dissolved the enemy's strength, then this power could trigger violent conflict between different forces within the opponent's body. Only then could the Wraithlord's ghostly form be broken apart, his three souls and seven spirits scattered, and the seal completed.

I sat down and waited quietly. Feeling tired, I closed my eyes and lay on the ground. Even in the darkness, I could see everything clearly. The power within me began to surge—I could feel it, this force born anew was stirring restlessly.

I began to reflect on everything that had happened, following Yin Choujian's words.
