Return to Valorcrest Auctions

1/19/2026

Gavin Wei still didn’t understand what Evan Chu was talking about, but he saw Evan climb straight out of bed, ready to leave, and couldn’t help asking, “What are you saying? Who’s coming?”

“A really powerful assassin—the kind neither of us can handle.” Evan Chu said.

“Oh, then I’d better get out of here fast. Seriously, I don’t get how you keep running into these killers. I’m speechless.” Gavin grumbled.

After they left the room, Evan said, “Let’s split up. We’ll meet at Valorcrest Auctions. Be careful.”

Meanwhile, in the Yule family’s manor in Xuanwu City, Harold Yule was fuming at a middle-aged man. “Dad, you want me to send the Windfiend Colt back to that kid? Are you kidding me? We’re the overlords of Bastion City, and you want your own son to return something he just got?”

The middle-aged man looked at his furious son and smiled. “Harold, we may not be afraid of that kid, but his friend is not someone we can afford to mess with. Sure, we have some status here in Bastion City, but in front of truly powerful cultivators, we’re nothing.

So just send it back quickly. Do you know what his friend is auctioning at our Lyric Hall Auctions? That item is worth close to a million Starstones! According to Butler He, that young man is very shrewd. If we want him to consign his item with Lyric Hall, we have to return his friend’s mount. That’s his only condition.”

“Damn! So he’s got us right where he wants us. No way, I refuse to send it back—what, does he think the Yule family is a pushover? I’ll take some men and kill that kid myself.” Harold Yule snapped.

“If you do that, don’t ever come back to the Yule family. You’re always causing trouble instead of getting things done. Lyric Hall Auctions is going downhill fast, and instead of figuring out how to fix things, you just keep making problems for me. I’m sick of it.”

The middle-aged man roared.

“Young Master, Lyric Hall doesn’t have any headline items this time. Do you want us to embarrass ourselves in front of Valorcrest? That young man bringing in those treasures is Lyric Hall’s lucky break. If we offend him, losing business is nothing—our reputation is what really matters.” The old man who spoke with Evan Chu said.

“You have to go, and apologize in person. If you don’t, deal with the consequences yourself.” The middle-aged man said, then turned and left.

“Don’t hesitate, Young Master. If you can get close to his friend, it might really help us out. You know the Second Prince is in Bastion City right now, but he hasn’t come to see your father directly. Can you guess why?” the old man said.

“Heh, Yuwen Qingkong is really putting on airs. He’s just a prince—what’s the big deal?” Harold Yule scoffed.

“Keep your voice down—walls have ears! Young Master, let me go with you, so you won’t be put on the spot.” the old man said.

“Fine! You come with me. I can’t believe that kid has such powerful friends. Losing to him feels like such a waste!” Harold Yule muttered, frustrated.

The old man immediately sent a few attendants to follow Harold Yule as they headed for the inn where Evan Chu was staying...

But when they arrived, they found the place already empty. Harold Yule flew into a rage. “Damn it! Trying to mess with me? That kid is dead. He actually dared to run—go find him! Beat him half to death and bring him back to me!”

“Young Master, that’s not a good idea! What if our employer finds out?” the old man asked anxiously.

“So what if he does? Is he going to cause trouble in Bastion City? You’ve already done what he asked. If he tries anything, I’ll make sure he doesn’t live past tomorrow.” Harold Yule was getting angrier—he’d lost face and hadn’t even seen the guy, and now he was just boiling inside.

“Let’s go back!” With that, the old man left with him, but just then, two people appeared where they’d been standing.

“Second Sister, do you think that kid might be the one we’re looking for?”

“Not sure yet, but reliable sources say it’s probably him. He’s clever—already slipped away before we got here. I doubt he’s left the city though. We’ve got people watching the gates.”

At that moment, Evan Chu and Gavin Wei had already arrived at Valorcrest Auctions. Seeing Evan show up again, the receptionist quickly came forward to greet him.

“Young Master, is there anything else I can help you with?” the woman asked politely.

“I want to see your auction master.” Evan Chu said bluntly.

“That... might be a little inconvenient. The auction master only meets guests during item appraisals—otherwise, she rarely sees anyone.” The woman was tactful; Evan was a major consignor, and she definitely didn’t want to offend him.

“Is that so? Pretty high and mighty, huh?” Evan Chu chuckled.

For a moment, the woman was at a loss for words, her face awkward and troubled.

“Heh, you show up and immediately bully my staff—aren’t you a bit too dismissive of me?” Selena’s voice echoed.

Evan Chu knew she wasn’t physically present, only her voice had arrived. She was obviously aware of everything happening here. Evan could only feel envy, jealousy, and hate toward her strength.

“Haha, auction master, you’re joking. How could I not be welcome here?” Evan Chu laughed.

Meanwhile, Gavin Wei kept quiet. Since when did Bullard know the auction master of Valorcrest? That was basically impossible!

“Welcome? Of course you’re welcome. I’ve already prepared wine and food for you—bring your friend in too!” Selena’s voice was as seductive and charming as ever.

“Young Master, please follow me!” the woman said.

Gavin Wei stared at Evan Chu in amazement. “Bullard, how can you meet the auction master of Valorcrest? How did you pull that off?”

“Me? Haven’t you noticed how good-looking I am? If you were as handsome as me, maybe you could too. Come on!” Evan Chu chuckled.

“Young Master really is a fine-looking man. It’s extremely rare to get an invitation from the auction master!” the woman said ahead.

“See? Told you I wasn’t wrong!” Evan Chu laughed.

As they spoke, they arrived at an elegant lounge. “Young Master, the auction master is inside—please go in.” The woman finished and turned to leave.

Evan Chu pushed open the door and went inside, but Gavin Wei hesitated, looking nervous.

“Come on, what are you scared of? The auction master is a gorgeous beauty—she’s not going to eat you.” Evan Chu joked.

“I’ll wait outside. I’m not going in!” Gavin Wei said.

Evan Chu couldn’t figure out why he was acting like this, so he glanced at Selena, who was sitting by the wine table.

“If your friend doesn’t want to come in, that’s fine. There are things you should understand. I’ll have someone take care of him.” Selena said.

Evan Chu walked in, sat down by the wine table, picked up a jug, poured himself a cup, and drank it in one gulp.

“Good wine! Not bad, not bad!”

“Evan Chu, you’ve got guts. I’m finding you more and more interesting.” Selena said.

“Don’t—don’t get interested in me. I’m afraid one day you’ll fall for me and I’ll be in trouble.” Evan Chu poured himself another cup and said.

“Oh? What makes you think you’re worth falling for? Go ahead, let’s hear it—maybe there’s a chance.” Selena laughed, and her laughter felt like a knife to Evan Chu’s ears.

“No, no! Auction master, how did you know I’d come looking for you?” Evan Chu dodged the topic.

“Intuition. Didn’t you also predict I’d come looking for you?” Selena replied, pouring herself a cup as well.

“You really are something, auction master. I’m impressed! How about a toast?”

“No way. I don’t toast with strange men!”

“Strange?” Evan Chu was taken aback.

“Are we close? We’ve only met for, what, less than three hours?” Selena laughed again.

“Well, since we’re strangers, I’ll just drink by myself.” Evan Chu didn’t know what else to say—she was way too strong to offend, so he could only find a way to save face.

“Evan Chu, if I’m not mistaken, you have the Pure Yang Constitution, don’t you?”

Those words nearly made Evan Chu collapse to the floor. He stared at her in shock, asking, “You... what did you just say...”
