I Want to Divorce My Wife
Although the Yuan Family is one of the great houses of Blue Moon, in the eyes of the officials from the Upper Kingdom, they're really just some poor, distant relatives from the Duke Zhao Mansion—a hundred-year-old noble clan.
...A man having multiple wives and concubines is perfectly normal! Yet Lady Joanna actually tried to jump off a cliff over it, making her husband's affairs public knowledge—that's her fault!" Magistrate Tony Tong declared, full of righteous indignation. "If every woman made such a fuss, wouldn't society fall into chaos?"
The three members of the Yuan Family were so angry their stomachs hurt.
Mrs. Yuan pointed at Andrew Zhao and said forcefully, "Sir, the woman Andrew Zhao is having an affair with is Lady Joanna's fellow apprentice! They didn't even make their relationship public—just sneaking around in secret, which is a disgrace! After they were caught, Andrew Zhao didn't admit his fault; instead, he hit my poor niece, which drove her to jump off a cliff in distress."
Staring straight at Magistrate Tony Tong, who sat beneath the plaque reading 'Integrity and Honor,' Mrs. Yuan demanded, "You don't mention Andrew Zhao's wrongdoing at all, yet you criticize my niece with every word! Is the law of Vermilion Kingdom really supporting such shameless affairs?"
"Of course I'm going to marry Lily!" Andrew Zhao retorted. "Joanna knows this, but she keeps making a scene—she's obviously just jealous! She's violated the Seven Grounds for Divorce. I want a divorce!"
Watching Andrew Zhao howl about divorcing his wife, Grace couldn't help but feel a bit emotional.
Joanna Zuo must really love Andrew Zhao.
Otherwise, why would she be so jealous? Why would she jump off a cliff for him?
But what did she get in return?
It was Andrew Zhao, stomping his feet and shouting for a divorce!
Honestly, it’s hard to say whether this is Joanna Zuo’s tragedy, or Andrew Zhao’s.
"Sir, even if Andrew Zhao wants to take her as a concubine, they haven’t even gone through the proper ceremonies, and yet they’re already rolling around in bed! Isn’t that against the rules?" Mrs. Yuan pressed on.
"Right now, we’re talking about Lady Joanna’s suicide attempt—don’t change the subject!" Magistrate Tony Tong snapped. "Her jumping off a cliff has the whole Yan Capital gossiping, causing a terrible scandal! Clearly, Joanna is reckless and unfit to be the Duke Zhao Mansion’s matriarch. I hereby rule—"
Just as Magistrate Tony Tong was getting all worked up, his gaze froze, and he suddenly shot to his feet.
The whole room stared in confusion as he stood up.
"Prime Minister, what brings you here?" Magistrate Tony Tong blurted out, rushing down from the dais and bowing low in greeting.
Grace turned to look and saw Prime Minister Quentin Shaw strolling in, dressed in everyday clothes and moving at a leisurely pace.
"Magistrate Tong, long time no see!" Quentin Shaw said, half-smiling. "I’m not here in any official capacity today—just as a relative of one of the parties, here to observe."
"A relative? You’re related to the Duke Zhao Mansion?" Magistrate Tony Tong asked, baffled.
The people of Duke Zhao Mansion were all racking their brains, trying to figure out how they could possibly be related to the Prime Minister.
"Lady Joanna Zuo, the heir's wife, is my god-sister. Didn’t you know that, sir?" Quentin Shaw replied.
"Huh?" Magistrate Tony Tong was stunned. "Well... I really didn’t know that!"
"Knowing now is good enough! My sister is seriously injured and couldn’t come, so as her big brother, I’m here to check on things. Magistrate Tong, please continue the hearing." He quietly joined the family section of the audience, saying nothing more.
Magistrate Tony Tong wiped the sweat from his forehead and sat back down.
