Miracle This Is Too Unscientific

2/14/2026

With the dark-guard maids and Zuo An holding off the enemy, Serena Feng returned safely to Feng Manor. The first thing she did upon arrival was to order the dark guards and household guards to rush to the scene and rescue the injured dark-guard maids and the driver.

As for Zuo An? Serena was confident in him—there aren’t many people these days who could take Zuo An down, and he’s not like the dark-guard maids who would throw away their lives just to protect her.

Rescuers always arrive after the disaster is over—there’s no truer saying than that.

The dark guards had to stay behind to protect Serena at Feng Manor, so by the time the household guards arrived, the seven black-clad attackers were already gone. The dark-guard maids and the driver lay on the ground, covered in blood—fortunately, they were still breathing. As for Zuo An? The guards didn’t even catch a glimpse of him.

The guards carried the dark-guard maids and the driver back to Feng Manor, where Serena had already prepared for emergency treatment in the small cabin. All three had more than a dozen wounds each, their bodies battered and miserable. Both dark-guard maids had broken bones; even if their lives could be saved, they’d never fight again.

Serena didn’t waste words—she just focused on saving all three, doing everything she could to keep them alive. Even if the dark-guard maids couldn’t protect her anymore, she could afford to keep them on; after all, they were injured for her sake.

By now, Serena was skilled at treating trauma. With Jada Tang and Mira Tang helping, she managed to finish bandaging the dark-guard maids and the driver’s wounds just in time—right before the Emperor sent someone to summon her to the Fuller estate.

"Take good care of them. Give them their medicine every two hours, and if anything goes wrong, call a doctor immediately." As Serena spoke, she stripped off her bloodstained clothes and headed out.

She couldn’t stay by their side forever—the rest would be up to Jada Tang and Mira Tang.

"Yes, Miss," Mira Tang replied, staying behind to care for the three wounded. Jada Tang followed Serena as Spring and Autumn had already prepared hot water—Serena could wash and change as soon as she stepped into the courtyard.

Her five maids were well-trained—within fifteen minutes, they had Serena washed, dressed, and looking completely neat, with no trace of her earlier exhaustion or disarray.

"Miss, you look so pale. Maybe a touch of makeup?" Winter quietly suggested as she pinned the last hair ornament in place.

"No need. No one at the Fuller estate cares how I look anyway." It wasn’t that Serena didn’t care about beauty, but as a doctor, she really couldn’t wear makeup on the job—once she started sweating, it would smear and stick to her skin, which was just unbearable.

"Miss, without anyone to protect you, is it safe for you to go out?" Last night’s events had left all the maids shaken.

"I know Spring and Autumn have some martial arts training. You two will come with me." Serena stood up and made her arrangements.

She couldn’t hide in Feng Manor forever just because it was dangerous outside. If she had to live like that, she might as well be dead.

"Yes, Miss!" Spring and Autumn weren’t scared at all—in fact, they were fired up.

It was a servant’s duty to protect their mistress.

Serena switched to a new driver and maids. Urged on by a young eunuch, she returned to the Fuller estate. Just as Serena expected, no one there cared about her complexion or noticed the change in her usual attendants and driver—no one had a clue about last night’s ambush.

The ease with which those attackers vanished inside the Capital made Serena even more curious about their master—just who had enough power to cover the sky with one hand, even in the imperial city? Last night’s commotion wasn’t huge, but plenty of eyes were on her, so how did not a single whisper leak out?

Unfortunately, Serena didn’t have much time to think. The new shift of three imperial physicians, having heard what yesterday’s trio said, greeted her as soon as she came in.

Serena collected herself, smiling as she returned their greetings. At their repeated invitation, she took out her equipment and examined Felix Fuller again, explaining each step in detail.

Felix Fuller, serving as the teaching prop, dutifully lay there and let the three imperial physicians move him around as they pleased.

One of the imperial physicians brought up Serena’s anatomical drawing from her painting contest against Su Wan, saying there were a few parts he didn’t understand and asking her for guidance.

Serena didn’t refuse; she had the three imperial physicians help undress Felix Fuller, using him as a live teaching model. The three doctors agreed and reached out with Serena to start.

Felix’s upper body wasn’t injured, so the three imperial physicians quickly removed his shirt. Just as they were about to undo his trousers, a cold voice rang out nearby.

"What are you doing?"

"Ah—L-Lord Fuller, you’re awake!" One imperial physician, still bent over with hands on Felix’s waistband, froze in shock at his words.

"Lord Fuller is awake—he’s awake!" The imperial physician holding Felix let go in a panic, and with a thud, Felix fell straight onto the bed, banging his head on the stone pillow, his face twisted in pain.

Another imperial physician, holding Felix’s shirt, flung it away in fright the moment Felix spoke. Serena was the only one who kept her composure.

Standing by the bed, Serena stared at Felix in disbelief. "You’re actually awake? Awake on the third day? You’re still running a fever, and yet you’re awake?"

If he was awake, it meant Felix’s life was no longer in danger and his leg wouldn’t need to be amputated. Whether his injured leg could ever fully recover, though, was another question.

Were the Divine Temple’s descendants really this powerful? Was Felix just lucky enough to catch a medical miracle, even with only a ten percent chance?

Felix woke up while his wounds were still inflamed and he was running a fever?

It was completely unscientific.

Serena couldn’t believe her eyes; she rubbed them, still skeptical. She didn’t believe in medical miracles—she’d seen too many die waiting for one.

"Why shouldn’t I be awake? What, do you want me dead?" Felix lay motionless on the bed, pleased by Serena’s shocked expression.

The more Serena wished him dead, the more Felix was determined to live. Seeing her so astonished made all his efforts to have Falcon fetch the Everfrost Lily worth it.

"No, whether you live or die has nothing to do with me. I just can’t believe you managed to hit that one-in-ten chance—it really is miraculous." Serena shook her head, dazed.

"Wait, let me check you over." Serena turned, grabbed her medical kit, and quietly activated the Smart Med-Pack.

He was still running a mild fever and remained weak, but the fact remained—Felix was awake. Serena double-checked her diagnosis and offered her right hand to Felix.

Felix was surprised, not sure what Serena wanted. Seeing her hand, he mimicked her and extended his own right hand.

Such a simple gesture still took all of Felix’s strength. Just as he was about to drop his hand, Serena grasped it…

The moment Felix felt Serena’s cool, delicate palm, he knew it was worth every ounce of effort.
