What Kind of Eyes Do You Have
Hope and Claire stared at Grace Lawrence in shock.
Has Miss Lawrence gone mad from all the stress?
"Miss Lawrence..." Hope called out timidly to Grace Lawrence.
"Ahem!" Grace realized she'd scared them, so she cleared her throat and instructed, "Hope, go call the servants from Yuan Manor over. Later, they'll take Bobby back."
"But... but..." Hope stammered, not sure what she wanted to say.
"Just tell them exactly what happened here, every detail, nothing left out," Grace Lawrence said, her tone teasing yet firm.
"Every detail?" Hope looked completely baffled.
"Hurry up!"
"Oh..." Hope stumbled off, still dazed.
"Claire," Grace Lawrence called again.
"Miss Lawrence, do you need anything?"
"Go to my mother right away and keep her calm. Don't let her hear anything that might worry her about me," Grace ordered.
"Yes, Miss." Claire hurried off without another word.
Grace Lawrence took a deep breath and, feeling quite pleased, knelt back down on the floor to wait for her father to come deal with her.
Suddenly, a tall shadow blocked her light.
Grace Lawrence looked up in confusion—Evan Xiao.
He stood before her, radiating an icy aura that seemed to freeze the air, his gaze cold and unyielding.
Grace blinked, saying nothing.
But suddenly, her body was yanked up like a ragdoll—he grabbed her by the throat.
"Grace Lawrence." Evan Xiao's voice was as cold as ice, as hard as steel, like it came from the deepest pit of hell.
"Huh?" Grace squeaked.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Don't... don't be reckless!" Grace pleaded, terrified. "I was framed, I swear to the heavens!"
"You're nothing but trouble." Evan Xiao sneered, his sarcasm obvious but tinged with affection. "You should be grateful you haven't hurt anyone else! Who could possibly frame you?"
"What? What are you talking about? I don't get it!" Grace glanced nervously around, worried someone might overhear.
"If I ever see you lying in bed with a man again, I'll chop you both up and feed you to the wolves!" Evan Xiao snarled.
"No, he—"
"Even if he's a eunuch, it's still not allowed!" Evan Xiao cut her off.
"A eunuch?" Grace's eyes widened. "You can tell just by looking?"
Evan Xiao glared at her darkly, saying nothing.
"What kind of eyes do you have?" Grace Lawrence asked, her big, sparkling, curious eyes fixed on Evan Xiao. "You can spot my Spirit Root, and now you know Bobby's body is injured too?"
Evan Xiao was so flustered by her long, fluttering lashes that he let go of her instantly.
"Evan Xiao!" Grace grabbed his sleeve, her eyes shining. "I don't have to go to the palace anymore!"
"So what?" Evan Xiao replied coolly.
"You slept with me, so you have to marry me," Grace Lawrence insisted, gripping his sleeve tightly with a playful glint in her eyes.
"What if I don't?"
Grace: "Then... I'll marry you instead?"
Evan Xiao glanced sideways at her, about to speak, when someone approached.
"Someone's coming!" Grace warned, shoving him. "Go, quick!"
Evan Xiao glared at her unhappily, refusing to budge.
"Go! Someone's coming!"
Evan Xiao yanked his sleeve free and slipped out the side of the house.
Moments later, a large crowd arrived.
Among them were Minister Zhuo and the others kneeling to send off the Emperor, as well as the Yuan Manor servants called by Hope.
"Dad..." Grace Lawrence rushed over, crying and sniffling. "I was really framed! Silver said big brother was looking for me here, so I came, and then someone covered my mouth and nose with a drugged cloth—"
"Enough," Minister Zhuo interrupted, his expression unusually calm. "What's done is done. More words won't help."
