A Terrifying Identity

1/19/2026

As Evan Chu stepped into the City Lord's Mansion, he saw the guards forming a tense ring around him and his companions, as if facing a deadly enemy. None dared to make a move—the carnage at the gate had already scared them witless. Who would risk provoking these slaughter gods now? That would be suicide.

"Evan, that fire technique you used just now was terrifying! The heat alone could kill. If I’m not mistaken, you could probably wipe out even a fifth-layer Heaven Martial Realm expert. Is this the result of refining the Fire Spirit Pearl in the secret chamber?" Selena suddenly asked in a low voice.

"That's right. Surprised? This is my first elemental transformation—Fireshift. If I gather all the Spirit Pearls, I could even kill Divine Martial Realm elites in an instant. Now you see why I'm so desperate to obtain the rest of the Pearls!" Evan Chu replied matter-of-factly.

Selena was truly shocked deep down. She thought carefully about everything she’d seen and heard about Spirit Pearls before, but none of it matched the kind of martial power Evan described. Her curiosity burned, but this wasn’t the place for a longer conversation—otherwise, she’d have demanded he explain everything right now.

Evan Chu’s entrance naturally stirred up a commotion within the Mansion. Immediately, a middle-aged man in purple robes and another in white robes strolled out from the main hall, chatting and laughing as if nothing was amiss.

The moment Evan Chu saw the man in white, he nearly collapsed on the spot. Selena quickly supported him, asking, "Evan, are you alright? Is your heart acting up?"

"No, it’s just... What the heck is going on?" Evan stared blankly. That middle-aged man in white was none other than his father, Victor Chu—alive and well, not at all the broken prisoner he’d feared.

Titus Sima and Victor Chu walked over, sizing up Evan and his companions. Victor said, "Feng’er, hurry and pay your respects to the City Lord. If not for Lord Titus’s help, we might really have ended up condemned prisoners."

Evan Chu was totally confused. "What exactly happened here? I’m completely lost!" he blurted out, urgency clear in his voice.

"Evan, this isn’t the place for a long talk. Let’s move to the main hall first!" Titus Sima said.

Evan Chu, full of questions, followed the two men into the main hall. There he spotted Ryan Chu and Luna Chu—both dressed in servant clothes.

The moment they saw Evan, both rushed over, shouting, "Second Brother!" "Second Brother!"

Evan smiled, looking them over. "You’ve really been through a lot. I never thought my troubles would drag you all into this mess."

"It’s fine—as long as you’re safe, we’re not worried. Besides, it’s actually pretty good here. You don’t need to feel bad," Luna Chu said.

"You have no idea, Second Brother! When we heard you’d become a wanted man, we were scared to death. The clan head didn’t sleep for days. And is it true you killed the Sea Dragon Empire’s Third Prince?" Ryan Chu asked, eyes wide.

"Don’t worry, it’s all resolved now. The warrant’s been lifted!" Evan Chu grinned.

"Everyone, have a seat. Luna, pour the tea!" Titus Sima called out.

Luna Chu quickly poured tea for everyone. Victor Chu spoke up: "Lin Feng, when you were declared wanted, it scared us half to death. The City Lord told us if we didn’t hand you over, the whole clan would be executed. At that moment, everyone lost hope."

So the City Lord arrested all of us on the spot, then publicly marched us back to the Mansion. But it was all just for show—once inside, he released us quietly.

We felt embarrassed living here for free, so Luna and the others helped out with some chores. You really misjudged him.

Those guards and consecrates at the gate probably died for nothing. It was all just for show, to fool outsiders. Flowing Cloud City is just a small place—the City Lord had no choice. He had to give the higher-ups some 'evidence,' even if it meant watching his own people get killed.

Hearing this, Evan Chu and the others finally understood the real story. He’d truly killed the wrong people; if he’d been brought inside directly, none of this tragedy would have happened.

"Dad, who’s this 'higher-up' above the City Lord? Just tell me, and I’ll go wipe him out!" Evan declared hot-bloodedly.

"Feng’er, don’t be rash! That’s someone way out of your league. You can’t just charge in!" Victor Chu immediately tried to stop him.

"It’s fine—just tell me who dared to sentence the Chu clan to death. I’m ready to give his whole family a taste of clan extermination!" Evan said, voice cold and furious.

"Feng’er, you haven’t even settled your own affairs yet—don’t cause more trouble! That guy’s mansion is guarded by Heaven Martial Realm experts. You’d be marching to your death!" Victor Chu warned.

Evan ignored him and turned to Titus Sima. "Father-in-law, who exactly is behind all this? Please tell me."

"Father-in-law?" Titus Sima was stunned for a moment, then realized what Evan meant. "You and Jingyi are already...?"

"Pretty much. The wedding can wait. Right now, I want to see who dares order a clan extermination against Prince Valiant!" Evan said, burning with anger.

"Prince Valiant? Feng’er, what are you talking about? I don’t get it at all. Do you realize what happens if you talk nonsense? Words can get you killed!" Victor Chu stared at Evan, utterly baffled.

Luna Chu, Titus Sima, and the others stared at Evan, deeply confused. Everyone knew that calling yourself a 'Prince' was deadly serious—ordinary folk who claimed the title could lose their heads.

Evan grinned. "Oops, Dad, I forgot to introduce everyone!"

He walked over to Gavin Wei. "This is Gavin Wei, a Royal Capital Guard—now my little brother."

The crowd was stunned. A Royal Capital Guard, and he’s Evan’s junior? That sounded impossible.

"This is my close friend, and honestly, my confidante—now at Divine Martial Realm strength: Selena!"

The words 'Divine Martial Realm' nearly knocked everyone to the floor. Each thing Evan said was more shocking than the last.

"This is also my junior—Goldwing, a King-rank avian demonic beast under my command." Evan continued.

At this point, Victor Chu and the rest looked at Evan as if he were some kind of monster. Was this really their son? How could everyone around him be so ridiculously powerful?

Then Evan stepped up to Skylar Yule and said to the crowd, "This is my sworn big brother—currently the Second Prince of the Heavenly Dragon Empire, Skylar Yule!"

That announcement finally floored everyone. Victor Chu stammered, "F-Feng’er... is this... is this real?"

"Of course it’s real! I’m now Prince Valiant and Grand Protector-General. Pretty impressive, huh?" Evan Chu laughed.

"My god, this is unbelievable!" Ryan Chu blurted out.

"Greetings, Second Prince! Greetings, Prince Valiant!" Victor Chu and Titus Sima immediately dropped to their knees, performing a formal salute.

"Dad, Father-in-law, please get up! This isn’t the Royal Capital—let’s keep it simple!" Evan Chu hurriedly helped them up.

"Exactly! Second Brother’s right. Just remember my identity—don’t spread it around. I prefer to keep a low profile, so let’s treat this as a private visit," Skylar Yule said.

At that, Luna Chu slowly walked up to Evan, grabbed his cheek, and twisted. "Are you really telling the truth, you little rascal...?"
