She Said She Would Protect You

This is High God Felicity Quinn, elder sister to Divine Lord Tanya Quinn, and birth mother of Mia Quinn.

Lily Bai had only met Felicity Quinn once before—in her past life, at Divine Lord Tanya Quinn’s birthday banquet in Cangwu Palace.

She commands tens of thousands of divine soldiers in Cangwu. Though her looks are slightly less striking than Tanya Quinn’s, her presence is even more overwhelming—standing there, she’s like a lone general holding a mountain pass, fierce without anger and radiating natural authority.

“High God Felicity Quinn!” The Celestial Empress narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean by this?”

“What do I mean? Don’t you know the Zhuo Clan is my Mia’s paternal family? Even a dog’s owner gets some respect! If Her Majesty insists on ignoring me, why should I bother being polite?”

The Celestial Empress took a deep breath and said, “I don’t know her. How would I know what connection she has to you, High God?”

Felicity Quinn raised an eyebrow and pointed at Serena Summers. “Then, does Her Majesty know her?”

“What, are they such big shots that I’m required to know them?” The Celestial Empress asked coldly.

“They’re not big shots—most gods don’t have to know them. But you? You absolutely should!” Felicity Quinn replied.

The Celestial Empress: “Oh? And why is that?”

“Your family’s throne was built up by Emperor Ray Quinn, wasn’t it? The Zhuo Clan is the father’s family of the Holy Lord and the maternal family of Emperor Ray Quinn. Which of the Three Great Clans doesn’t give them respect? I thought you and His Majesty would remember Emperor Ray Quinn’s kindness and treat his maternal kin well… But you don’t even recognize them?”

The Celestial Empress’s face darkened. “High God Felicity Quinn, did you come here just to provoke me today? Don’t tell me you think I’m afraid of you!”

Felicity Quinn said, “I’m not here to provoke you! I’m here to ask why you keep targeting the Zhuo Clan’s descendants. Even if you don’t care about my status, shouldn’t you at least give Lord Wynn Drake some respect? Lily Bai is Lady Serena’s own niece!”

“The White Clan accepted the Divine Edict but botched the job. They messed up, and I can’t punish them?” The Celestial Empress’s tone was sharp.

“Messed up?” Felicity Quinn looked at Lily Bai. “Lily Bai, what did you do wrong?”

Lily Bai looked confused, answering, “High God, Her Majesty told me to go kill the great fiend imprisoned beneath Heavenly Pool Mountain, so I went and did exactly as instructed. I truly don’t know what I did wrong!”

The Celestial Empress: “Then how did Leo Li get poisoned by demonic venom? And why isn’t Bianca Whitefan dead yet?”

“I really don’t know!” Lily Bai looked utterly wronged.

“Lily, I think this must be a misunderstanding.” Aunt Serena Summers said gently. “Just tell us what happened, and clear things up.”

“Okay…” Lily Bai nodded obediently. “At the time, I entered the barrier and met our White Clan’s Old Ancestor. I told her I was from the Eastlore White Clan and had come to pay my respects, then offered her the poisoned wine.”

“And what did she say?” Serena Summers asked.

“She seemed to notice I was scared and told me not to worry. She said I looked like her daughter! And she said, after drinking the wine I offered, she’d protect me from now on—no one would dare bully me!”

Lily Bai paused, looking a little sad. “Honestly, when I heard that, I felt really awful… But I remembered Her Majesty’s Divine Edict, so I held it in and watched her drink the wine!”

Lady Serena glanced at the Celestial Empress and asked, “She said she’d protect you?”
