Most men are afraid of women crying. Whenever a woman cries, they tend to soften up—and Evan Chu was no exception. Hearing the Heavenly Fragrance Pavilion Master's sobs at this moment, he felt restless and unsettled.
But Evan didn’t immediately show himself on the water’s surface. He couldn’t be sure if the Pavilion Master was truly heartbroken over him, or if she was just playing some trick. All he could do was hide quietly in the river, waiting.
"Come out, you bastard! If you're a real man, show yourself. Is running away after doing something wrong the Frostbane Sect Master's style? I promise I won't attack you again." The Heavenly Fragrance Pavilion Master choked out between sobs.
Evan hesitated for a moment and said, "If I come out, are you going to try and kill me right away?"
It sounded like something a three-year-old would say, and the Pavilion Master found it hard to swallow. "Can you just come out? Let's talk properly. I have a lot I want to say to you."
Evan steeled himself—if he died, so be it. He really had wronged her, and at worst he could use Earthshift to hide underground if things went bad.
He shot straight out of the water and stopped ten meters in front of the Pavilion Master, looking at her and saying, "If you have something to say, just say it. I’m all ears."
The Heavenly Fragrance Pavilion Master instantly broke into a smile through her tears. "Can’t you get a little closer? Are you really that afraid I’ll kill you?"
"It’s not fear—it’s caution. If you’ve got nothing else, I’ll be leaving. Take care!" Evan said, turning to leave.
"Don’t go! I promised I won’t hurt you again. Do you know I’ve been thinking about you every single day? You’ve been on my mind, keeping me up all night. When I found out the youth who destroyed White Sun Sect was you, I was so happy—do you understand that?" The Pavilion Master spoke with incredible gentleness.
"Thank you, Sister Selena. I knew you wouldn't ignore your little man," Evan said with a wry smile. "But right now, I have urgent matters to deal with. Even if I want Frostbane Sect to rise, it'll take time—my strength is still too weak, I need to break through to the next realm first."
"Someone who can slay a Ninth-Layer Divine Martial expert is hardly weak, you know. The secrets you carry are terrifying. Why are you the Frostbane Sect Master? I've never heard of Frostbane Sect having a master before," Selena Yale said, her eyes full of doubt.
Evan grinned slyly, "What if I told you I'm actually the Lord Frostbane of old, reborn in this life? Would you believe me?"
"Lord Frostbane? The strongest in the ancient Azure Tide Ruins? That's impossible! Wasn't Lord Frostbane killed on the Divine Battlefield?" Selena Yale exclaimed, shock written all over her face.
"I didn't die back then. Because of special circumstances, I was forced to reincarnate. The me standing before you is Lord Frostbane, reborn. Otherwise, how could a Fourth-Layer Divine Martial cultivator slay Ninth-Layer opponents? My memories aren't fully awakened yet—once they are, even Saints won't scare me," Evan explained, his voice calm but proud.
Selena Yale hesitated, then said softly, "Maybe I should believe you. I can't find any reason to refute your words. What urgent matters do you have, and how can I help?"
As she spoke, Selena Yale walked toward Evan, who instinctively retreated a few steps, still wary of her intentions.
"Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you. Maybe I've already accepted that you're the man I'm destined to wait for in this life. Heavenly Fragrance Pavilion forbids relationships between men and women, but you broke that rule. As Pavilion Master, I can't do anything about the child in my belly—I can't just abandon our child, can I?" Selena Yale said tenderly.
Evan Chu said, "I need to obtain the Gold Spirit Pearl, but unfortunately, only Freewind Palace possesses it, and it's specifically Saintess Serena Dream's dowry. This matter is extremely difficult. Do you understand what I mean?"
Selena Yale nodded, "I understand. You want to become Serena Dream's man? But she's already engaged to Ethan Feng, so your chances are slim. It seems I can't help you with this matter."
Evan let out a helpless sigh, gazing off into the distance. It was indeed a difficult task, but one he had to accomplish. For a moment, he even considered killing Ethan Feng to open a path, but worried Serena Dream would hate him, and Freewind Palace would seek revenge.
"Linfeng, may I hug you? We've been apart for so many days, and I've missed you every moment. Now that I'm your woman and carrying your child, you can't refuse me," Selena Yale said softly.
Evan glanced at Selena Yale, feeling a bit awkward. Maybe her moodiness really was because of the pregnancy. He nodded helplessly, silently agreeing.
Seeing Evan nod, Selena Yale gave a gentle smile and slowly walked over, nestling softly into his arms. Her fragrance lingered around Evan, stirring up emotions he couldn't quite describe.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through Evan's back. He realized, to his shock, that he couldn't move at all—not even his Chaos Dragon Force would circulate. Just as he was about to ask why, Selena Yale's soft voice sounded in his ear, laced with cold satisfaction: "This time, let's see how you escape..."
