Soul Shift and Corpse Exchange

Phantom Elder was greatly shocked upon hearing the news and immediately contacted Evan Yang. After waiting for a while at Shatterfiend Peak, Phantom Elder returned.

As soon as he saw Evan Yang, he asked, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, that's right. He probably just arrived, wasn't very strong, otherwise I couldn't have driven him off," Evan Yang replied.

Phantom Elder frowned and said, "Looks like things are troublesome."

"What should we do now?" Evan Yang wasn't strong enough and didn't know where to find Elder Lewis, so he could only ask helplessly.

Phantom Elder answered, "We tricked him once and he's already like this. There's no way to lure him out again; it looks serious. Go back to Fiend Palace and tell the Palace Lord about the situation here. He'll figure something out."

"Why don't you go?" Evan Yang asked.

"You know about my relationship with Fiend Palace. My goal was Elder Lewis—I thought killing the Lewis Family would let me rest easy, but now things have turned out like this," Phantom Elder replied.

"Fiend Palace's Tracking Hall is a mess. Even if we report back, they won't know what to do," Evan Yang sighed.

"It's better than saying nothing. How they handle it is Fiend Palace's business," Phantom Elder replied.

Evan Yang nodded, then he and Phantom Elder split up. Evan Yang returned to Fiend Palace, while Phantom Elder continued searching for traces of the Lewis Family.

After Evan Yang returned to Fiend Palace, he went to find Faye Gale. At that moment, Faye was recuperating from her injuries. When she saw Evan Yang, she smiled and said, "You're back."

"How are your wounds?" Evan Yang asked, curious, not having had time to check.

"It's nothing, these injuries aren't a big deal," Faye Gale smiled.

"Alright, take me to see the Palace Lord," Evan Yang said.

"See the Palace Lord? What's the matter?" Faye Gale frowned. By rights, the Lewis Family was gone, so there shouldn't be any reason to look for them.

Evan Yang couldn't explain right away and simply said, "Elder Lewis isn't dead."

"What!" Faye Gale was shocked.

"Yes, hurry and take me to see the Palace Lord. I have something to tell him," Evan Yang said.

Knowing this wasn't simple, Faye Gale immediately took Evan Yang and left, heading to the black main hall. There, they encountered the Palace Lord, who was just about to return to cultivation.

When Faye Gale and Evan Yang rushed in, the Palace Lord asked suspiciously, "What are you two doing?"

Evan Yang said, "Elder Lewis isn't dead."

"What?" The Palace Lord was doubtful.

"His soul didn't die, only his body. Right now, his soul is residing in his grandson. Who knows when he'll come out to cause trouble," Evan Yang replied.

The Palace Lord knew this was serious. Elder Lewis was hiding somewhere, and catching him was impossible, especially since he was in the shadows.

"How could it be like this?" The Palace Lord said gloomily.

At this moment, Evan Yang had no solution either. He could only keep a close eye on his surroundings, in case Elder Lewis returned.

"Understood. I'll have people keep searching. You two should try to stay indoors as much as possible," the Palace Lord told Faye Gale and Evan Yang.

Faye Gale nodded and left the hall with Evan Yang, leaving the Palace Lord frowning and muttering, "Damn it. Damn!"

Soon, four First-Class Generals appeared beside the Palace Lord. He said to them, "Arrange for someone to protect her."

"Yes," the four replied in unison.

With this protection, the Palace Lord felt at ease. When Faye Gale later noticed a First-Class General watching her from somewhere, she said helplessly, "The Palace Lord sent someone over to supervise me."

"After what happened, he's afraid you'll get caught. Actually, I'm really curious about your true identity," Evan Yang said, wondering why the Palace Lord always protected Faye Gale, even sending his personal guards.

"One day you'll find out," Faye Gale replied.

Evan Yang was speechless at this, so he didn't ask further. Instead, he began thinking about what to do next.

Since Elder Lewis wouldn't return anytime soon, Evan Yang figured it was better to strengthen himself. So he said, "Alright, I'm going into closed-door cultivation."

"Closed-door cultivation?" Faye Gale didn't expect Evan Yang to want to cultivate at a time like this.

Evan Yang nodded and explained, "There's nothing else to do anyway. Might as well cultivate; it'll give more security."

"Alright, but if anything happens, make sure to contact me," Faye Gale said. She could protect herself, especially with a First-Class General guarding her in secret. As for Evan Yang, he was on his own, and the Lewis Family surely hated him.

Evan Yang nodded, then said goodbye to Faye Gale and found Owen Bing. After reorganizing his people, he ordered them to intensify their training for future needs.

To ensure his squad wouldn't face internal upheaval, Evan Yang left Owen Bing a stockpile of Mind-Veil Pills as a precaution.

Once everything was arranged, Evan Yang went to the Merit Hall, exchanged some herbs for contribution points, and left.

Arriving outside the Demon-Fiend Underpalace, he met the elder, took out his authority token, and went inside. At a glance, he saw ten flashes.

"Go straight to the tenth floor," Evan Yang decided after thinking it over, then went inside.

Inside, just like last time, he encountered a tenfold-strength clone. Evan Yang quickly dealt with his opponent, then saw the entrance to the eleventh floor.

Evan Yang wasn't sure what the eleventh floor was, so he walked in. Once inside, it was pitch dark, nothing could be seen, so he activated the Night-Eye Technique.

Inside, Evan Yang quickly saw the surroundings—a dreamlike grassland, though its beauty was hidden in the darkness.

"What is this place?" Evan Yang asked cautiously, on guard for the appearance of the eleventh floor's clone.

Evan Yang slowly looked around and moved bit by bit. After a while, he stopped because the clone appeared.

This time was different—the clone had autonomous consciousness and even spoke smartly: "Aren't you here to die?"

"I came in safely from the tenth floor, so I was prepared. Let's begin," Evan Yang said.

"Don't say I didn't warn you—this floor is different from the previous ones. You won't be able to see your surroundings, and I can read your thoughts," the clone said with a smile.

"What?" Evan Yang was shocked.

"You were just wondering if this is the eleventh floor, right?" the clone smiled.

Evan Yang really had been thinking that. He hadn't expected the clone to actually know his thoughts, which stunned him—it meant the clone could anticipate his moves.

"Let's begin," the clone said, seeing Evan Yang's shock and smiling.

Evan Yang immediately started fighting, and the clone responded swiftly, as if it already knew what was coming.

Evan Yang didn't believe the clone could always know his moves, so he attacked randomly, without planning ahead. This made the clone start to react passively.

"Do you think random attacks will let you hit me? You're too naive," the clone sneered.

Evan Yang ignored him and kept attacking.

Until the clone said with a smile, "Now it's my turn to attack."

The clone then launched a frenzied assault. Evan Yang could barely defend himself, since this was an elevenfold power increase.

Faced with this situation, Evan Yang could only try to find a way to break the clone's ability to anticipate his actions—otherwise, it was very dangerous.

In the following days, Evan Yang both improved his cultivation and searched for a way to break the clone's advantage.

Outside, things seemed calm, but the Fiend Palace Lord issued many orders to track down any Lewis Family members, as if determined to wipe them out.

Elder Lewis was now hiding inside Mason Lewis's body, in a dark place.

"Grandpa, when will you be able to recover your strength?" Mason Lewis asked. Knowing his grandfather wasn't dead meant hope for the Lewis Family's revival.

"We need to find a way to leave the Fiend Realm and go to the Human World," Elder Lewis mused. He knew staying in the Fiend Realm was extremely dangerous, since Fiend Palace ruled everything.

"How?" Mason Lewis knew they were wanted everywhere, and leaving was difficult—especially since a powerful expert guarded the exit.

"I'll take you to find someone," Elder Lewis said.

Mason Lewis didn't know who they were looking for, so he followed Elder Lewis's instructions, avoiding cities and flying until they reached a mountain surrounded by strange qi.

"Grandpa, we're here," Mason Lewis said.

"Good, let me use your body for a while," Elder Lewis said. Mason Lewis's body was once again controlled by Elder Lewis, who, after getting his bearings, shouted at the mountain, "Old Ghost, your friend is here."

Soon, a voice came from there: "Who?"

"Lewis Yan," Elder Lewis replied.

The voice sounded surprised: "Why are you here?" At the same time, a path appeared on the mountain, letting Elder Lewis walk up.

Elder Lewis walked up and entered a cave. If Evan Yang were here, he'd know this was the Corpse-Refiner's lair.

"Old Ghost, long time no see," Elder Lewis said with a smile.

"Why do you look like this?" the Corpse-Refiner asked in surprise.

"Don't even mention it. I can't describe how frustrated I am right now," Elder Lewis sighed.

"You used to be powerful in Fiend Palace. How did you end up so miserable, having to borrow your grandson's body just to survive?" the Corpse-Refiner asked.

"I was sabotaged. Now Fiend Palace is hunting me everywhere," Elder Lewis replied.

"Oh? Is there a bounty?" the Corpse-Refiner laughed.

"This isn't the time for jokes. Help me figure out a way to leave the Fiend Realm," Elder Lewis said.

"Why leave the Fiend Realm? Just stay here with me. No one comes here anyway," the Corpse-Refiner said.

"I'm only a soul now. I need a lot of human blood. Where can I get it? Only the Human World will do. If I stay in the Fiend Realm, Fiend Palace will easily find me," Elder Lewis explained.

"That's true," the Corpse-Refiner frowned. Last time, he had the Nether Family Master kill many people, which drew a lot of Fiend Palace attention.

"Hurry up and think of something," Elder Lewis urged.

After a moment's thought, the Corpse-Refiner said, "Alright, wait a bit while I prepare."

After a while, the Corpse-Refiner brought out two corpses.

Seeing the corpses, Elder Lewis frowned. "What are you doing?"

"Body swap! I prepared two corpses for you. Just switch bodies, and you two can leave smoothly," the Corpse-Refiner said with a smile.

Elder Lewis didn't mind. As for Mason Lewis, after thinking it over, he agreed: "Alright."

Elder Lewis first entered one of the corpses, then had the Corpse-Refiner transfer Mason Lewis's soul into the other.
