No Way Out

Susan Evans finally realized she had nowhere left to turn. There was no option but to be cast out—she had no second path.

Her head drooped like a defeated rooster. Face ashen, she nodded reluctantly. "Fine. If you want to write the divorce letter, then write it... I won't make a scene, as long as you don't tell Stanley Evans..."

"Mom! You're just going to let Dad write the divorce letter?" Lana Evans panicked and rushed to grab Susan Evans.

At that moment, Susan Evans felt her anger boiling up like a volcano. She glared at Lana Evans, suddenly slapped her across the face, and scolded: "Lana Evans, why did you run away from home? You were fine—why did you have to run off! If you hadn't left, would your father and I have ended up like this!?"

Lana Evans, stung by Susan Evans's slap, clutched her cheek, her heart filled with grievance and fury. "How is this my fault? I was young and clueless back then. I believed everything you said. You kept telling me Dad would abandon us for his concubine, that we'd be kicked out and left homeless. You said Lily Evans was scheming against our family, probably sending that woman to Dad to get rid of us! Every day you cursed Dad to my face, said awful things about him—did you ever wonder how I felt? All I knew was to hate Dad and hate Lily Evans! Before I came to the Capital, you told me not to get close to Dad. So when I arrived, I refused to live with him. I wanted to run away, and that's how I ended up leaving home! Now you blame me? I should blame you for filling my head with all that nonsense! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been abducted!"

Both mother and daughter were fuming, and immediately started quarreling on the spot.

Sam Evans ignored both of them, told Arthur Evans to write the divorce letter, signed it himself, then tossed it to Susan Evans. "Here's the divorce letter. Take it. From now on, we're finished. Get out!"

With that, Sam Evans turned and strode away without hesitation. Susan Evans and Lana Evans tried to chase after him, but Arthur Evans’s house servant blocked their way.

Once the divorce letter was written, they were no longer family, so there was no need to be polite to Susan Evans and Lana Evans for Sam Evans’s sake.

"Throw them out. From now on, they're not allowed in here," Arthur Evans ordered.

The house servants immediately sprang into action, driving Susan Evans, Lana Evans, and Jasper Cheng out of the main gate.

Dr. Zhang turned pale with fright and kowtowed repeatedly to Dr. Rowan Lin.

Dr. Rowan Lin glanced at Dr. Zhang coolly and said, "Someone like you shouldn't be a doctor at all—you're a disgrace to the profession. From today onward, you'll be blacklisted everywhere. If you dare to practice medicine again, don't blame me for being ruthless."

"No, please, Master Healer, spare me! I won't dare again! If I can't be a doctor, how will I make a living?" Dr. Zhang sobbed bitterly as Arthur Evans’s house servants dragged him outside. Spotting Lana Evans crying at the gate, Dr. Zhang exploded with rage: "You wretch, it's all your fault! Now you've ruined my livelihood—I won't let this go!"

Dr. Zhang's eyes blazed red with fury, and his pig-like bulk charged at Lana Evans, pummeling her with fists and kicks.

"Help! Stop hitting me!" Lana Evans, with her petite frame, was no match for Dr. Zhang’s assault and wailed for help. "Mom, husband, save me!"

Susan Evans, having just argued with Lana Evans and blamed her for being cast out, was still furious and had no intention of helping. She turned and walked away without a second thought.
