An Unreasonable Demand

12/2/2025

Yuna Ye was restrained by several men. Seeing her dress about to be torn apart, her face went pale. "Brother Ethan, save me!"

Hearing her cry, Ethan Gu and Maxwell Jing turned their heads simultaneously. Just moments before, they had been quietly disputing matters of Healer's Sanctuary. Ethan glanced at Yuna Ye, then at Damien Gray, and finally at Maxwell Jing, declaring firmly, "Listen to me!"

Morgan Shangguan raised her eyebrows at Ethan Gu's attitude. Those men were clearly bluffing; if Shuyang Ye hadn't been so anxious and Yuna Ye hadn't been so frightened, it would have been easy to see through them.

If Ethan Gu lacked even this level of perception, he would never have remained at Damien Gray's side. After so long together, Ethan Gu should know when Damien was serious and when he was merely putting on a show. This also showed that Ethan Gu truly didn't care much about Yuna Ye, which was why he could remain so calm!

Damien Gray, displeased, turned Morgan's head back toward him. His thin lips pressed down in a heavy kiss, clearly unhappy that she kept looking at other men. Morgan Shangguan smiled, wrapped her arms around his waist, and responded to his somewhat disgruntled kiss.

Logan Qian muttered, "See no evil," but his eyes remained glued to the kissing couple, not blinking once.

Ethan Gu and Maxwell Jing glared at each other for a long moment, but in the end, Maxwell Jing relented.

Seeing that Ethan Gu didn't even intend to pay her any attention, Yuna Ye felt a wave of heartbreak. She had always known Ethan didn't love her, but facing this situation made her utterly despondent. She let the men pull at her without resisting, no longer wishing or able to struggle.

Noticing her state, Shuyang Ye felt a stab of pain in his heart and suddenly shouted, "I’ll speak!"

At his words, Logan Qian ordered the men to stop and step back.

Shuyang Ye helped Yuna Ye up from the ground, glaring hatefully at Ethan Gu. He turned to Damien Gray and said, "Ghostmaster, I can tell you what you want to know, but you must make him marry Yuna!" He pointed at Ethan Gu.

Although deep down he didn’t want Yuna Ye to marry Ethan Gu, since she was so stubbornly devoted to him, as her father, he had no choice but to do his best to fulfill her wishes.

Morgan Shangguan smiled, pulling Damien Gray back to keep him from interrupting, her expression full of amusement. Damien Gray stroked her hair, a trace of indulgence at his lips, and paid no attention to Shuyang Ye.

Maxwell Jing's face darkened—this was a blatant attempt to steal someone from him! Ethan Gu lowered his head in silence, but Maxwell caught a hint of a smile at his lips and narrowed his eyes dangerously. So, he wanted to watch the show?

Maxwell Jing sneered and nudged him, "Go ahead and marry her! Master Ye only has one daughter. If you marry Miss Ye, the entire Ye Sect will be yours!"

Ethan Gu looked up at him, his eyes full of warning. "Say that again!"

Maxwell Jing crossed his arms and smiled with feigned friendliness. "I don’t recall you being hard of hearing!"

Ethan Gu's eyes were icy. "You said it!" With that, he walked toward Yuna Ye.

Watching the two fall out so quickly, Morgan Shangguan couldn't help but lean close to Damien Gray and whisper, "Aren’t we being a bit immoral?"

Damien Gray glanced at her, feigning innocence. "I was going to refuse Shuyang Ye’s unreasonable demand!" His meaning was clear—he was innocent, completely forced into this!

Morgan Shangguan wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingertips tracing lightly twice as she raised her brows. "Are you blaming me for forcing the innocent into vice?"

Damien Gray twitched his lips. Was 'forcing the innocent into vice' really appropriate here? Especially for him? If it weren’t her, he would have dealt with her with a single blow long ago!

Seeing the smile at Morgan's lips, Damien Gray could only shake his head helplessly and murmur, "Mo’er, you’ve been spoiled by our little one!" In truth, he knew Morgan had always had a mischievous streak.

Ethan Gu walked a few steps, then suddenly stopped, spun around, rushed up to Maxwell Jing, grabbed his collar, and bit him on the neck, hissing, "You’re ruthless!"

Maxwell Jing touched the bite mark on his neck, then glanced at the bead of blood on his fingertip, frowning. "You’re the ruthless one!" Yet there was a hint of a smile in his eyes.

Ethan Gu leaned in and sneered, "You’re celebrating too soon!"

As Ethan Gu turned to leave, Maxwell Jing quickly grabbed his waist, frowning. "You really plan to marry her?" Seeing Ethan ignore him, Maxwell Jing touched his nose and muttered, "Why do I always have to give in? Would it kill you to let me win just once?"

Ethan Gu shot him a look. "Aren’t I letting you win now? I have things to do—we’ll settle this later!" With that, he pried Maxwell’s arm from his waist and strode out the door, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he’d just become the center of attention.

Maxwell Jing couldn’t help but twitch his lips. Settle the score later? How was that letting him win? Had Ethan ever actually done that? Shaking his head, he muttered, "Men—really shouldn’t be spoiled!"

Just as he finished speaking, a strange laugh sounded nearby. Logan Qian shook his head and declared, "That’s exactly why Brother Ethan doesn’t dare spoil you!" With that, he jumped away quickly, lest Maxwell Jing forget their friendship and lash out.

He sure was quick to adapt—earlier, he’d looked like he’d been struck by lightning at their intimacy, but now he seemed perfectly at ease!

Maxwell Jing smiled at him gently. "Logan, I think you still need to make a bit more progress!"

At his words, Logan Qian’s face changed slightly. He gave a dry laugh, "Don’t worry, Brother Max, I’ll keep improving—no need for you to worry about me!"

After the Four Hall Masters were selected, they weren’t appointed directly; each had to undergo special training first. Even Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu had gone through it before joining Damien Gray’s side. When Maxwell said Logan needed more progress, he really meant it was time for another round of training.

In the Ghost Guild, if Damien Gray stayed silent, Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu had the final say. So, if Maxwell wanted to give Logan a hard time, he definitely had the authority!

Logan Qian’s strong reaction was entirely because the last round of training was still fresh in his memory!
