Ancient Gods and the Gold Coffin

"How can there be such terrifying creatures?"

Quinn Shepherd shivered involuntarily. Only now did he notice that the Void Behemoth's four forelegs were joined by thick membranes—this monster could fly!

When it spreads those membranes, it can probably soar through the sky like a bat!

More and more giant eyeballs burst from the ground, sprouting like bamboo after rain. Each one blinked excitedly, staring straight at them. Quinn felt a chill as realization struck: Grant and Noel were not who they appeared—they were the Heavenly Emperor and Supreme Emperor Taidi in disguise!

"Could it be that Pre-Historic Creators could use divine sense to control such powerful lifeforms?" Quinn wondered, puzzled.

Loren Shaw was beside himself with excitement. He leapt forward, stroking the Void Behemoth's impossibly rough skin, unable to hide his joy as he babbled, "Void Behemoth! This is the Void Behemoth our ancestors spoke of! They say only the mightiest warriors of every race could tame one—who would've thought I could do it too..."

Quinn examined the Void Behemoth closely and saw its skin was covered in countless spiral vortex patterns—Void patterns, most likely.

Grant smiled faintly. "Quinn, aren't you curious about the Taichu Divine-Stone Vein here in the Ancestral Court? I've always wanted to see it myself. They say the Heavenly Emperor was born from an egg mined from that vein. Noel, aren't you curious too?"

Eyes shining, he pulled out a mirror, sprang into the air, and circled the Void Behemoth, recording every detail.

Suddenly, Annie's startled cry rang out: "Quinn, look around!"

Quinn looked around, startled. The ground of the Ancestral Court had split open, and huge eyeballs were emerging from the earth!

Cold sweat broke out on Quinn's forehead as he edged backward, sending a divine sense message: "Annie, be ready to snuff out the lantern at a moment's notice!"

Even the smallest eyeball spanned dozens of zhang across!

More and more giant eyeballs burst from the ground, sprouting like bamboo after rain. Each one blinked excitedly, staring straight at them.

It didn't stop there—Quinn saw the sky itself begin to "grow" huge eyeballs, popping into existence one after another. Soon, the sky was filling with so many eyes it threatened to blot out the heavens above the Ancestral Court!

A chill ran down Quinn's spine. He abandoned his inspection of the Void Behemoth's patterns and dove back to the altar, urging, "There are probably no other living creatures left in the Ancestral Court—they've all been eaten by Void Behemoths. We can't stay here. We need to leave, now!"

Loren Shaw hurriedly said, "I still need to contact my ancestors in the Ancestral Court—just a little longer!"

Grant smiled faintly. "Quinn, aren't you curious about the Taichu Divine-Stone Vein here in the Ancestral Court? I've always wanted to see it myself. They say the Heavenly Emperor was born from an egg mined out of that very vein. Noel, aren't you curious too?"

Quinn shot him a glance.

Noel replied calmly, "I've heard Supreme Emperor Taidi's Taichu Primal Stone also came from that vein. Of course I'm curious. If we can see it for ourselves, this trip will be worth it."

The two stood on opposite sides of the altar, locking eyes.

Cold sweat broke out on Quinn's forehead as he edged backward, sending a divine sense message: "Annie, be ready to snuff out the lantern at any moment!"

Loren's divine sense swept through layer after layer of the Ancestral Court's Void, searching for any trace of his ancestors. A lost look spread across his face as he muttered, "No divine sense—there's nothing here..."

Quinn's divine sense rippled: "I used to be the Netherworld Divine Son and Little Earth Sovereign—I've got ways to make it dark. The moment they make a move, you put out the lantern!"

He slumped to the ground, dazed and hollow, his core beliefs shattered.

In the Creator era, there was no such thing as Dao heart. That concept only emerged after the Divine Treasury and Heaven Palace system was established. Loren's mental cultivation was weak—nothing like Quinn and the others.

He really wasn't sure if putting out the lantern here in the Ancestral Court would actually get them back to the Ghost Ship.

Grant and Noel faced off: one with hands tucked in his sleeves, the other filing his nails, both wearing disarmingly warm smiles.

"Roar—"

Heaven and earth shook violently as massive Void Behemoths drifted up from the ground, passed through mountains, or appeared out of thin air in the sky.

Quinn hauled Loren to his feet and barked, "Your ancestors' spirits are probably hidden in even higher layers of the Void—places no Void Behemoth can reach. Enough self-pity. Take control of your Void Behemoth and get us out of here!"

Quinn's sweat poured down as he said grimly, "Loren, have you connected with your ancestors' divine sense yet? If you have, we're leaving immediately!"

Loren's divine sense swept through layer after layer of the Ancestral Court's Void, searching for his ancestors. A lost look spread across his face as he muttered, "No divine sense—there's nothing here..."

Suddenly, he slumped, laughing hollowly: "Quinn, I can't find any trace of my ancestors' divine sense in the Ancestral Court. It's probably all been devoured by Void Behemoths. How am I supposed to explain this to the clan leader...?"

In the Creator era, there was no such thing as Dao heart. That concept only appeared after the Divine Treasury and Heaven Palace system was established. Loren's mental cultivation was poor—nothing compared to Quinn and the others.

Suddenly, the space around them warped and shimmered with bizarre colors. Quinn and the others on the altar found their bodies growing transparent; Quinn raised his hand and saw veins and muscle fibers visible right through his skin.

Quinn suddenly shouted, "If I die, none of you will ever leave the Ancestral Court!"

On the altar, Noel and Grant finally looked away from each other. Noel stretched and smiled, "Since we're all planning to visit the ore vein, let's go together. Grant, what do you think?"

Grant chuckled, "That's exactly what I was thinking."

Quinn hauled Loren to his feet and barked, "Your ancestors' spirits are probably hidden in higher layers of the Void—places these beasts can't reach. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Get your Void Behemoth moving and get us out of here!"

On the ground, countless Void Behemoths surged toward them like a tidal wave—the monsters had them surrounded!

Loren rallied, "That's right! My ancestors' spirits are far stronger than mine—they must've placed their divine sense in even higher layers of the Void! That has to be it!"

Quinn unleashed his power, scooped up the altar, and sent it howling through the air. It landed atop the Void Behemoth Loren had subdued, wedged between bony ridges.

Loren instantly focused on steering his Void Behemoth at full speed. The beast's six legs pounded the ground, picking up speed, then leapt just as the others lunged to attack—vanishing into the Void!

Suddenly, the space around them became bizarre and distorted. Quinn and the others on the altar found their bodies growing transparent; Quinn raised his hand and could see his own veins and muscle fibers through his skin.

Of everyone present, only Noel and Grant's bodies remained unchanged.

Their Void Behemoth plunged into the First Void Layer, dodging attacks from other behemoths. Suddenly, a razor-sharp claw shot out of the Void, slashing toward the beast and everyone on the altar!

The Void Behemoth's claws gleamed with a deadly, weapon-like sheen. Wherever they passed, even the First Void Layer was torn open.
