Almost Lost Evan Lan 3

1/4/2026

Lily Bai thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Howard, I'll see if I can pull some strings to get your wife's surgery scheduled sooner."

"That’s a huge favor!" Mr. Howard’s face was full of gratitude.

"And don’t worry about the money—you can pay it back whenever, if you want. Your wife’s health comes first." Lily Bai said.

"I really am blessed to have you! You two are my guardian angels!" Mr. Howard bowed deeply.

"Teacher!" Samson Zhang quickly helped him up. "We’re your students—how could you bow to us like that?"

He smiled awkwardly, "Come on in, go see your teacher’s wife!"

So the two of them went in to see her.

After the visit, Lily Bai stepped out and called Eric Lan, asking if his family had any connections that could help arrange a good specialist for Mr. Howard’s wife.

Eric Lan patted his chest and swore up and down that it was no problem.

Seeing Mr. Howard still standing at the door, Lily Bai called him over and told him to wait for news—it should work out.

Mr. Howard kept thanking her, even getting teary-eyed.

Which just made Lily Bai even more puzzled.

Eric Lan said Mr. Howard’s skills were good enough for the Ministry of Defense.

But why would he rather be driven to such desperation than use his talents and show what he can do?

She considered asking Sandy to investigate him.

But then she thought, doesn’t everyone have one or two secrets they’d rather keep hidden?

So she let it go...

After seeing their teacher, the siblings headed back to Dragon Mountain Hills together.

The hospital was on the back side of Dragon Mountain Hills.

Lily Bai drove toward the museum again.

First, it was much closer; second, if she went around to the front side of the mountain at this hour, there’d definitely be a traffic jam.

So she planned to head back via the rear mountain again. Moving a couple of concrete barriers was way easier than getting stuck in traffic.

Traffic jams were her absolute nemesis.

Passing by the National Heritage Museum again, Lily Bai’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts.

Was this place really connected to the Prophet?

Were the missing pieces of high-grade spirit jade hidden inside?

What should she do next?

With a weapon even Sandy was afraid of, she definitely wasn’t about to rush in recklessly.

Lost in thought, she drove up the mountain.

Then she heard a strange sound.

Thud! Thud! Thud! Heavy and rhythmic, like a giant was hammering the ground. It came in steady beats, as if echoing down from the summit.

"What is that sound?" Lily Bai frowned.

Samson Zhang turned and asked, "What sound? I don’t hear anything."

"You didn’t hear it? Thud, thud, thud—it’s coming down from the summit."

"Huh?" Samson Zhang listened carefully, then shook his head. "You’re probably imagining things."

Lily Bai’s heart tightened.

The sound was perfectly clear to her.

But Samson really hadn’t heard it?

She didn’t think she was imagining it.

Because she could hear a wider range of sounds than ordinary people.

It might be a low-frequency sound beyond the range of human hearing.

She immediately called Sandy: "Sandy, did you hear any strange sounds?"

Sandy replied, "I'm heading up the mountain to check."

Lily Bai: "What about the others?"

I told them to stay at the courtyard and protect Moonlight and Evan.

Okay, I'm heading home now." Lily Bai hung up and floored the gas, speeding home.

When she reached the front side of the mountain, Lily Bai was surprised to find that the heavy stone barriers had already been moved aside, leaving a gap just wide enough for a car.
