Cooking Together

"Oh!" Maxwell Jing nodded, then exaggeratedly stepped outside to look at the sky. But all he saw were stars and the moon—nothing out of the ordinary!

Although everyone knew Damien Gray doted on Morgan Shangguan, the Ghost King himself cooking for a woman—if word got out, it would surely shock the living and revive the dead!

Still, seeing that Damien Gray and Morgan Shangguan were both unharmed, Maxwell Jing finally breathed a sigh of relief. Otherwise, he would have felt guilty for the rest of his life!

Liam Duanmu and Noah Duanmu entered a step behind the others. Now, with everyone crowded into the small cabin, it was getting a bit cramped. Damien Gray shot a cold glare, prompting Maxwell Jing to shoo people away, "Back up... move back..." Yet he himself edged closer, curious to see how Damien Gray would cook!

Morgan Shangguan couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. It seemed Damien Gray cooking was truly a rare sight!

Liam Duanmu saw her looking well, and the heavy weight in his heart finally lifted. Glancing at Damien Gray, he couldn't help but feel a little self-mocking—he had never noticed the genuine affection between the two, yet he had arrogantly thought to rescue her!

Noah Duanmu sighed inwardly and comfortingly patted his brother's shoulder.

In the end, Maxwell Jing simply couldn't withstand Damien Gray's icy stare and had to retreat, sulking, to a distant corner.

Finally, Damien Gray served up a bowl of something unidentifiable. Maxwell Jing looked at the big bowl, coughed twice, and asked, "Your Highness, what exactly is this? Are you sure it won't make us sick?"

Damien Gray replied coldly, "Too much free time, is it?"

Maxwell Jing quickly waved his hand and backed away.

No one had eaten for quite a while. The four newcomers were in better shape, but Adrian Yarrow and Mona Shangguan had been on the run, exhausting much of their strength. Although they'd taken a medicinal pill and felt energized, their stomachs were still empty—they were definitely hungry.

Most importantly, that bowl of mystery food Damien Gray made—while it didn't look great, it actually smelled pretty good.

Damien Gray took a spoonful for himself first, found it edible, and then let Morgan Shangguan rest in his arms as he fed her porridge. "Morgan, we'll have to make do for now," he said softly.

Honestly, he just threw everything into the pot and boiled it!

His cooking skills were nothing to brag about—just enough to keep from starving when alone. But this time, he seemed to do pretty well; it actually tasted good!

Morgan Shangguan tasted a spoonful and praised without hesitation, "It tastes great!" She wasn't some pampered lady; she'd been hungry before and eaten leftovers. She could be picky when she had the chance, but in tough times, survival came first. Adapting to her environment had become second nature.

Besides, this was the first time someone other than a chef had cooked just for her! And it really did taste good!

Hearing her words, Damien Gray smiled, his eyes bright with happiness. "Then have some more!"

Watching Damien Gray gently feed Morgan Shangguan porridge, Mona Shangguan's frown deepened, jealousy stirring in her heart. She hadn't expected the Ghost King to treat Morgan so well!

Maxwell Jing rubbed his stomach and said plaintively, "I'm starving too!"

Suddenly, a hand was extended toward him. Maxwell Jing paused, then accepted the pill from Ethan Gu and popped it into his mouth, muttering, "These pills can't fill me up! I'm still a poor patient!" Although the pill restored his energy, his stomach was still empty.

Ethan Gu snorted coldly, "Would you dare eat anything outside?"

Maxwell Jing rolled his eyes and said, "Why wouldn't I dare? I have..." He cut himself off quickly.

Ethan Gu narrowed his eyes at him. "You have what?"

"Haha... nothing!" Maxwell Jing laughed awkwardly, trying to brush it off. "Isn't there your antidote pill?"

They'd all taken Ethan Gu's antidote pill before coming in—this place was full of poisonous things. Otherwise, one careless move and they'd be dead!

Ethan Gu stared at him relentlessly. Maxwell Jing looked everywhere but at him, inwardly groaning. He'd almost let something slip!

Ethan Gu kept staring until Maxwell Jing's scalp tingled, then finally looked away and said nothing more.

Maxwell Jing shot him a glance and fell silent too.

After Damien Gray finished feeding Morgan Shangguan the porridge, he asked, "Morgan, are you feeling any better?" The environment here was far from ideal; he didn't want her to suffer, but if she felt unwell, they'd have to make do for now.

Morgan Shangguan replied, "Let's leave here first!" She had mostly recovered.

She glanced at the skeleton on the ground, recalling the cryptic words. What exactly did 'Rakshasa' mean? Who wanted to kill her? And what did that mysterious force represent?

Except for Mona Shangguan, everyone here was used to seeing life and death, so a skeleton didn't faze them—even if it was a bit unusual. After this ordeal, Mona herself had seen enough corpses not to be scared; besides, she barely had the energy to care.

Liam Duanmu spoke up, "The way out is rough, and it's already dark. Why don't we rest here for the night?" He was mainly thinking of Morgan and Mona Shangguan.

Morgan Shangguan had already gotten out of bed and pulled Damien Gray along, saying, "Let's go now!" They'd already wasted enough time here.

Who knew if the person trying to kill her would give up or come searching at the bottom of the cliff? She still hadn't figured out the source of that power. She preferred to keep things under control rather than risk everything. Now that she had Damien Gray, her life was no longer expendable—she couldn't risk it, nor could she drag him into danger with her.

The way out really was difficult, but there was no other choice. The owner of this place was clearly a recluse, so aside from the rugged path, there was no other way out.

The place was filled with poisonous creatures and strange traps. If it weren't for Liam Duanmu's expertise with arrays and Ethan Gu's antidotes, the four of them wouldn't have made it in at all.
