You Deserve to Be Beaten for Hitting My Mother

Helen Parker pointed at her own face and complained to the villagers, "Look at what she did to me! I'm her elder, and yet this unfilial brat dares to lay hands on me. Village Chief, you must uphold justice for me!"

"What kind of elder are you? The Evans Family kicked my mother and me out and cut all ties. Now you come crawling back, pretending to be an elder? I’m confused—are my mother and I still Evans Family or not?" Lily Evans retorted.

Grandma Evans panicked when she heard that. Her precious grandson, Arthur Evans, was aiming for official exams, and his reputation couldn’t be tainted. She didn’t want her family’s name dragged down by Lily Evans and her mother’s scandal.

So Grandma Evans quickly clarified, "Lily Evans and Margaret Evans have nothing to do with our Evans Family anymore. Any shameful things they do are their own business—don’t drag our Evans Family into it!"

After speaking, Grandma Evans shot Helen Parker a fierce look and hissed, "Watch your mouth! If you ruin Arthur Evans’s reputation, you’ll answer to me!"

Arthur Evans was Helen Parker’s own son, and she was counting on him to become a top scholar so she could be the proud mother of a champion. Realizing her mistake, she quickly bowed her head and admitted, "Mother, I was just upset and spoke without thinking. Arthur Evans is my son—I’d never harm him."

Lily Evans said, "Oh, did everyone hear that? Grandma Evans just said it herself—my mother and I aren’t part of the Evans Family. So, Helen Parker, as the Evans Family’s daughter-in-law, what right do you have to call yourself my elder?"

Helen Parker stiffened her neck and said, "Fine, I was wrong! Lily Evans, I’m not your elder, but I’m still older than you. How could you hit me and show no respect for your elders?"

Lily Evans sneered, "Since you’re not my family’s elder, why are you barging into my home causing trouble? Just now, Helen Parker came to my house, insulted my mother, pinned her to the ground, and pinched her so hard she’s covered in bruises! You bullied my mother—who else should I hit if not you? Folks, let me ask you: if someone hit your mother right in front of you, what would you do?"

The villagers snapped out of it after hearing Lily Evans’s words.

They’d all heard Helen Parker insult Lily Evans’s mother earlier. If someone came to their house and bullied their own mother, a slap or two would be the least of it. If a hot-tempered filial son was around, things could get deadly.

Li Dazhuang, the village’s famous filial son, couldn’t stand anyone bullying his mother. Putting himself in Lily Evans’s shoes, he immediately fumed, "If anyone dared bully my mother in front of me, I’d chop them to pieces!"

The crowd burst into laughter. Li Dazhuang’s mother glared at him, but secretly she was pleased—her son was loyal.

The Village Chief knocked his pipe against the table and said, "Enough! I’m here to resolve disputes, not watch a family drama. Helen Parker, did you hit Margaret Evans?"

Helen Parker’s face turned red. "Village Chief, I was just angry and lost control for a moment. I didn’t mean to hurt Margaret Evans."

Lily Evans snorted, "Didn’t mean to? My mother’s arm is covered in bruises! You didn’t mean to hurt her, but you sure meant to humiliate her!"

The Village Chief frowned. "Helen Parker, you’re the Evans Family’s eldest daughter-in-law. You should set an example. If you bully Margaret Evans again, I’ll hold you accountable!"

Helen Parker’s face was ashen, but she didn’t dare argue.

Grandma Evans glared at Helen Parker, then turned to Lily Evans and Margaret Evans, her tone sour. "You two just love stirring up trouble!"

Lily Evans replied, "Grandma Evans, you’re the one who started all this. If you hadn’t kicked us out, none of this would’ve happened."
