Up front, Mai Kanda heard Shawn cry out and immediately stopped the car. She turned around to Jade Swann, looking wary. "Um—miss, why are you attacking Shawn-kun?"

"Hehe, as the saying goes—if you miss this village, you won’t find another inn! Life’s pleasures are always fleeting, so you two better make the most of it!" Mai Kanda mused up front, then put in her earplugs, turned on her music, and focused on driving.
"Yeah! Life’s pleasures are always fleeting!" Maggie Yan echoed, feeling a deep resonance with Mai Kanda’s words. In the Military Espers Unit, she and the others had great power, but every mission was dangerous, risking their lives. Most frontline fighters had no family, and rarely any romantic life—if they did, it was buried deep inside. Someone like Shawn, with his unique status, was truly one of a kind!
