Unreasonable Demands

Shuyang Ye glanced at the inscrutable Damien Gray, and understood at once—he must have been discovered by the Ghost Guild when he went to pay respects at Consort Bella’s tomb. For years, he hadn’t visited her grave, as it lay deep within the Valley of Destiny, where avoiding detection by Master Tianji was nearly impossible.

This time, it was only after learning that the Ghost King had two new children that he quietly went to Consort Bella’s tomb, to tell her the news. He resolved that, if Prince Damien’s children proved gifted—unlike himself—he would help them reclaim the throne, repaying Consort Bella’s kindness at last.

Damien Gray cared little for Shuyang Ye’s thoughts, and asked coldly, “Do you know there’s another force secretly protecting the Ghost King?”

He knew Yuna Ye saw through his identity, yet at this moment, he separated himself from the Ghost King persona without the slightest discomfort. Perhaps he was used to playing two roles, or perhaps he simply didn’t care whether Shuyang Ye knew who he truly was.

Shuyang Ye looked anxiously at Yuna Ye. Hearing Damien’s question, he asked in surprise, “Another force?”

Shuyang Ye’s shock made it clear he knew nothing about this other force. Morgan Shangguan and Damien Gray exchanged glances, both frowning. It seemed this faction was truly mysterious—if not for Damien’s extraordinary perception, perhaps no one would have noticed it at all.

Once Damien finished speaking, Ethan Gray retracted his long silver thread and said with some annoyance, “Don’t ask me to do this sort of thing again!” Clearly, he found acting as a bodyguard utterly dull.

With that, he closed his eyes again.

Damien Gray glanced at him, unruffled. He merely curled his lips, a flash of calculation flickering in his eyes—seen only by Morgan Shangguan.

Morgan Shangguan arched her brow, deciding it was best not to get involved in this father-son quarrel. After all, she knew that no matter how fiercely they fought, neither would ever truly harm the other.

“Yuna…” Shuyang Ye quickly helped Yuna Ye to her feet. Yuna glanced up at the harmless-looking Ethan Gray, fear flickering in her eyes. Her body went limp and she fainted.

“Yuna…” Shuyang Ye checked her carefully. The wound on her back wasn’t too serious, but her condition looked dire. The harm Ethan Gray had done seemed far more complicated than it appeared, but Shuyang Ye couldn’t figure out what was truly wrong.

Roxy Shangguan kindly reminded him, “Old man, you’d better find a skilled doctor for this auntie. If she dies by accident, you can’t blame us!”

“What?” Shuyang Ye’s expression changed. For someone as frail as Yuna Ye, this injury was serious—but not fatal, surely! He glared at Ethan Gray and asked coldly, “What did you do?” His first thought was poison.

He could no longer see Ethan Gray as a mere child—no child could be so ruthless!

Ethan Gray opened his eyes and looked at him. The cold, fierce aura in Ethan’s gaze made Shuyang Ye involuntarily take a step back.

Ethan Gray sneered, “You think I’d act without reason?” Though just a child, his eyes held a lofty disdain, as if looking down on everyone—so high and mighty, it was hard to meet his gaze.

Logan Qian touched his nose, finally understanding what it meant for the student to surpass the master. No wonder the Sect Master had mellowed lately—clearly, all that cold arrogance had been inherited by this little one.

He no longer dared to think of playing with him. One careless move, and he might lose his life—who had ever seen a child with such eyes, such skill, and such ruthless tactics?

If he weren’t the Sect Master’s child, Logan Qian would suspect he was a monster. But since he was, it didn’t seem so strange. The Sect Master was never normal—if his child were, that would be far more bizarre!

Ethan Gray was clearly growing impatient. Morgan Shangguan stuffed Roxy Shangguan into Damien Gray’s arms and beckoned to Ethan.

Ethan paused, then obediently drifted into Morgan’s embrace. Though he showed no affection, the cold, fierce aura vanished. His calm little face, even expressionless, made people want to pinch his cheeks.

Damien Gray frowned but didn’t push him away. He looked at Morgan Shangguan, his eyes flickering. Morgan could tell this stubborn man would use this as leverage, demanding something from her later.

At that moment, Ethan Gu walked in. He glanced at Morgan Shangguan but said nothing.

Morgan Shangguan raised her brow, guessing that someone from the Cloud Guild must have arrived. Ethan Gu didn’t seem anxious, so it wasn’t anything serious. Most likely, Qin Yan had made some progress!

She wasn’t in a hurry either, planning to wait until things here were settled before dealing with it.

Seeing Ethan Gu appear, Shuyang Ye quickly said, “Left Protector, please save Yuna!” He didn’t actually know how skilled Ethan Gu was, but he knew he could heal. In this situation, he had no choice but to ask for help—if he left the Ghost Guild to find a doctor, who knew what might happen to Yuna?

Ethan Gu glanced at Yuna Ye’s condition, then raised his brow at Maxwell Jing, his eyes questioning. Maxwell pulled him aside, saying, “If Little Ethan was the one who struck, you’d better be careful—one wrong move and you might end up dead. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

Ethan Gu simply raised his brow and followed Maxwell’s lead. Clearly, something interesting had happened!

“Uncle Gu…” Roxy Shangguan called sweetly. Maxwell Jing froze, then, as if being chased by ghosts, dragged Ethan Gu and ran!

Now Maxwell Jing felt Roxy Shangguan was a little devil—her smile was sweeter than anyone’s, but no one knew what she might say or do next. Best to keep a safe distance!

Watching the two flee in panic, Roxy Shangguan blinked innocently and asked, “Am I really that scary?” After a pause, she muttered, “I just wanted to say, don’t bully Uncle Jing so much. He’s actually pretty pitiful!” With a sigh, she truly seemed to feel sorry for Maxwell Jing.
