Seeing the cyan bead, Evan Chu’s heart stirred—it was radiating a clear, powerful energy fluctuation. This was probably the demon core Luna had mentioned.
Right now, the Azure Spirit Drake was howling in agony, its massive body thrashing and rolling on the ground. It sent river water surging into towering waves, hurling countless stones and clumps of earth with every convulsion—a truly terrifying sight.
Evan Chu slowly moved toward the cyan bead. Progress inside the Azure Spirit Drake’s body was painfully slow; he had to constantly hack away at obstacles around him. Each time he slashed through with the Flame Dragon Sword, the drake would let out another miserable scream—which, honestly, Evan found a bit satisfying.
Just then, Evan spotted a red sphere about the size of a washbasin, pulsing violently. He knew this had to be the Azure Spirit Drake’s heart—if he shattered it, the drake would die for sure.
“Please, spare me! I’ll give you anything you want—just let me live! I’ve cultivated for tens of thousands of years, I really don’t want to die like this!” The Azure Spirit Drake, wracked with pain, pleaded with Evan Chu, knowing full well he could hear every word.
Evan paused for a moment. This Spirit Beast was so powerful—should he really let it go? If he did, there’d be no way to get back inside its body again, and next time, he might be the one in danger.
But if this beast really did submit to him, the benefits would be enormous—especially since he didn’t know the first thing about the Divine Battlefield.
Just as he was hesitating, Luna spoke up: “Evan, you can’t afford to be merciful—this thing is an ancient savage beast. If you let it go now, you’ll be hunted all across the Divine Battlefield! There are nine other Spirit Beasts here with power on par with this one.
If it rallies the other Spirit Beasts to take revenge, do you really think you’ll survive? Sure, you have the Fivefold Element-Shift and can merge into the five elements, but can you hide forever? You know your responsibilities and mission can’t be delayed too long.”
Evan felt a little ashamed after hearing that—maybe he really was too soft-hearted. To feel pity for a monster like this was just wrong.
So he said, “Luna, I know what I need to do. Don’t worry—I’ll kill the Azure Spirit Drake right now to avoid any more trouble. I’ll smash its heart immediately.”
The Azure Spirit Drake, realizing the human inside hadn’t responded for a while, tried again: “I can be your pet—just let me go! If you think I’m lying, we can sign a Soul Contract. That way you won’t have to worry about me turning on you.”
That offer really was tempting—if this had happened before, Evan Chu would’ve agreed without hesitation. But now, he knew better. A Soul Contract could control the beast, sure, but these were different times, and there was no need to take that risk.
“Just give up! I need your demon core, so save your breath and get ready to die!” Evan Chu said coldly.
With that, he swung the Flame Dragon Sword with all his might. A blazing red sword light erupted inside the Azure Spirit Drake’s body, the sword energy slashing straight for its heart.
The Azure Spirit Drake’s external defenses were sky-high, but inside, it had almost none. Breaking its heart was ridiculously easy for Evan Chu.
A flood of blood sprayed all over Evan Chu’s face. With its heart ruptured, the Azure Spirit Drake’s huge body began thrashing wildly, unleashing soul-rending roars that echoed nonstop.
If Shadow were here, this blood would be the ultimate tonic for him—but right now, it was just wasted.
No matter how strong a Spirit Beast is, once its heart is destroyed, it can’t survive. The Azure Spirit Drake was now at death’s door, its struggles fading, the light in its eyes dimming—it was barely breathing.
Evan Chu slowly approached the cyan bead. With a few light swings of the Flame Dragon Sword, he cleared away the obstacles and easily took it. The bead was still warm in his hand; after a quick glance, he stowed it in his storage ring.
Mission accomplished, Evan Chu unleashed Earthsplitter and tore a huge hole in the Azure Spirit Drake’s body, bursting out in an instant. Looking at the beast’s corpse, he felt a bit lucky—if Luna hadn’t told him this method, he honestly wasn’t sure he could’ve killed it, let alone gotten its demon core.
With its demon core destroyed and its heart pierced, the Azure Spirit Drake was finished. After a few last struggles on the ground, it died with eyes full of unwillingness.
In the Divine Battlefield, this arrogant Spirit Beast was slain by a mere human—and Evan Chu even took its most precious source of energy, the demon core. It was a fate the drake could never have imagined; if it hadn’t shown up, maybe it wouldn’t have died so miserably.
After a quick glance at the Azure Spirit Drake’s corpse, Evan Chu pulled the Frostbane Sword out of its mouth and chopped the body into several pieces. This was real top-grade nourishment—he had to bring it back for Shadow to enjoy.
Once everything was done, Evan Chu jumped into the giant pit. It was already flooded with river water—he casually washed off the blood. Luckily, the Azure Spirit Drake’s body wasn’t poisonous, or he’d be in real trouble.
After changing into clean clothes, Evan Chu glanced at the distant sky, then teleported away. He had no idea where to go next—the Divine Battlefield was so vast, even constant teleportation couldn’t get him to the end.
By sunset, Evan Chu had reached the summit of a barren mountain. There was hardly any vegetation—just a few tufts of wild grass. He found it odd, especially since there was a wave of heat at the peak that made the place feel scorching.
“Luna, do you think there could be a Spirit Beast like you mentioned hiding somewhere around here?” Evan Chu asked.
“This place looks a lot like a volcano. I’m not sure if there’s a Spirit Beast here, but you can use your divine sense to check. If there are any traces of monster beasts, they’ll be strong—only exceptional beasts can survive in an environment like this,” Luna replied.
Evan Chu agreed with Luna’s logic and spread out his divine sense. After about half a stick of incense, he detected an energy fluctuation—and at that moment, the energy sensed him and struck back at his divine sense. At the same time, a thunderous roar erupted from the depths of the mountain…
