Assassin, Guessing Won’t Get You Pregnant

2/14/2026

Prince Nolan had always been a man of his word. If he said Serena wouldn't be able to get out of bed the next day, then there was no way she'd wake up feeling refreshed.

One night of indulgence, and the two of them barely slept at all. If Prince Nolan hadn't needed to attend morning court, he definitely wouldn't have let Serena off so easily. A man with real skills was far stronger than any ordinary man.

Before leaving, Prince Nolan pressed a kiss to Serena's brow. Serena gave a sleepy little moan, impatiently shoved him away, and rolled over clutching her quilt, making it clear she didn't want to deal with him.

Prince Nolan didn't mind at all. Looking utterly satisfied, he walked out, but the moment he crossed the threshold his face turned to ice—he switched expressions so fast it was almost breathtaking.

At the door, Prince Nolan paused briefly. A secret guard appeared instantly, dropped to one knee, and said, "Master."

"No one is to disturb the young lady."

"Yes, sir."

After giving his orders, Prince Nolan walked straight out the main gate of Feng Manor, nearly scaring Butler Wu to death.

Normally, even if Prince Nolan spent the night at Feng Manor, he'd leave at dawn and head to court from his own residence. But today, he didn't care—he just walked right out the front gate.

Not only did everyone in Feng Manor get a fright—even the neighbors on both sides were startled, craning their necks to see what was happening.

"Was that really Prince Nolan?"

"Did Prince Nolan really spend the night at Feng Manor?"

"Am I seeing things, or did Prince Nolan just walk out of Feng Manor? Is he heading to morning court from there?"

...

Feng Manor was in a prime location, surrounded by high-ranking officials. Some of them were important enough to attend morning court themselves. With Prince Nolan leaving from Feng Manor, it was inevitable he'd run into them—and once they met, the gossip was guaranteed.

Serena had no idea about any of this. She was sound asleep. In the morning, Spring, Autumn, came to wake her, but the secret guards sent them away. At noon, Winter and Summer tried to bring her lunch, but the secret guards sent them away too. By evening...

Ahem, in the evening, Jada and Mira Tang brought her dinner, and Serena ate in her room.

After dinner, Serena wanted to go for a walk to help digest, but her waist was still so sore it barely felt like her own. Frustrated, she could only sprawl on the bed, listening to Jada and Mira gossip about the latest news in the capital.

Serena told Jada and Mira to keep an eye on anything involving Chu Changhua. If any rumors started circulating that could hurt Simon Sun, they were to step in immediately and shut it down—no letting the gossip spread.

"Understood, miss." Jada and Mira knew exactly how much Simon Sun meant to Serena. Aside from not sharing her last name, he was practically her little brother.

"Miss, Young Master Simon asked about you today, and Young Lord Zed was worried too. Do you want to see them?" Jada spoke softly, thinking of Simon Sun's concern.

"Boom..." Serena's face flushed. Annoyed, she said, "What did you tell Young Master Simon?"

Jada and Mira saw Serena's shy look and covered their mouths, laughing. "Don't worry, miss, we told Young Master Simon you caught a chill last night."

"Good." Serena let out a sigh of relief. She really didn't want Simon to know why she couldn't get out of bed—it was just too embarrassing.

"But Young Lord Zed didn't seem to buy it." Jada thought of Zed's eyes, which seemed to see right through everything, and her heart skipped a beat for no reason.

Miss Serena was absolutely right—Zed was a scary person. They used to think he was just a kid, but with that look in his eyes and that sharp mind, he was nothing like a child. If he hadn't been talking to Simon, Simon wouldn't have kept insisting on visiting Serena.

"If he doesn't believe it, so what? Who cares what he thinks." Serena was still wary of Zed, and asked, "Has he been sticking to Simon every day? Even following him out?"

"Yes, miss."

"His injuries aren't healed yet?" Serena frowned. She didn't really like Zed spending so much time with Simon—what if he led Simon astray? That would be bad.

"He's been fine for ages. Young Master Simon watched over him the whole time—how could he not recover? Simon's medical skills come straight from you, miss." Jada was trying to flatter Serena, but missed the mark. Serena scolded her: "Simon Sun's medical skills are better than mine. Don't say things like that again."

"Yes, miss, I was wrong." Jada wilted immediately after her slip, not daring to act up again. Mira, ever the peacemaker, jumped in: "Young Master Simon is a true prodigy—now everyone in the capital knows Feng Manor has a kind-hearted little miracle doctor. He only charges the lowest fees, but his skills are top-notch. Three doses and the patient is cured."

Serena liked hearing that, and broke into a smile. "Just don't praise him like that in front of Simon. He's still young and gets embarrassed easily. And that 'little miracle doctor' nickname—use it less around him. He's young, and I don't want him crushed by his own reputation."

Serena sounded like she was joking, but she was really warning Jada and Mira to be careful—just in case someone was trying to set Simon up for a fall.

That kind of praise trap was common. Serena didn't mind using it on others, but she'd never let anyone use it against Simon.

"Don't worry, miss—we're watching. No one's going to get away with scheming against Young Master Simon." Jada rushed to reassure her, hoping to make up for her earlier mistake.

"Good. Keep a close eye, and don't let these petty things bother Young Master Simon." As soon as the word 'bother' came up, Serena's gaze sharpened. "Tell Zed to come see me tomorrow, and from now on, don't let him cling to Simon for no reason."

"Understood, miss." Jada and Mira replied at once.

The three maids chatted a bit more about Night City, but as it got late, Serena sent them off—just because she wasn't sleepy didn't mean everyone else could stay up.

She'd slept all day, so by night Serena wasn't tired at all. After Jada and Mira left, she got bored, noticed a book by her bed, and picked it up—only to realize it didn't have a title.

"What kind of book has no title?" Driven by curiosity, Serena opened it, but the moment she saw the contents, she froze—then angrily tossed it onto the bed.

"Nolan Dongling, you bastard! You actually read this kind of book in my bed—are you trying to get yourself killed?" Just thinking about last night, with Prince Nolan trying every position and trick on her, Serena got even angrier. Those positions, those tricks...

"Nolan, you really do learn by example!" Serena's cheeks burned with fury as she picked up the book and hurled it at the door...

With a loud smack, the secret guards outside jumped in surprise. Between Serena's shouting and the noise, their curiosity was piqued...

"What kind of book was Prince Nolan reading in the young lady's bed to make her so mad?"

"No idea." One of the secret guards shook his head woodenly.

"I know you don't know, that's why I'm asking you to guess! What kind of book could make Miss Serena so angry?"

"Can't guess." The secret guard stayed deadpan.

"Idiot! Use your brain. Guessing won't get you pregnant."

"Uh..." The secret guard stayed wooden. Another guard, annoyed, smacked him on the head: "How did I end up stuck with such an idiot? There's no fun in it at all."

The wooden guard rolled his eyes and suddenly shouted, "Assassin! Assassin!"
