Manager Colin Cui stood in place, glancing over at Evan Lin at the next table.
He sized Evan Lin up for a moment.
The first thing he noticed was the iPhone X sitting by the table.
These days, the price of that phone had dropped a lot since launch, but it still cost seven or eight thousand yuan apiece.
Plenty of poor students, obsessed with appearances, would take out loans just to buy a flashy phone. So just based on that, it was hard to say Evan Lin couldn’t afford his meal.
Manager Cui prided himself on reading people, but seeing Evan Lin there, totally ignoring everything around him and just wolfing down food, he started to feel conflicted.
On one side was Harvey Jiao, the restaurant’s young boss, and on the other was Evan Lin, this scruffy-looking guy in worn-out clothes.
Weighing his options, he chose the former.
"I’ll serve this dish myself."
A waiter was carrying over a plate of black pearl caviar.
Manager Cui glanced at it, eyelid twitching.
That plate of black pearl caviar alone cost three thousand yuan. Add in the two Australian lobsters on the table, and even without counting the other dishes, the bill was close to ten thousand.
"Hello, here’s your black pearl caviar. Our chef just sourced it fresh this morning—the taste is smooth and delicate."
Manager Cui put on a smile and walked up to Evan Lin’s table.
"Just set it down."
Evan Lin spoke blandly, having just finished off both Australian lobsters on the table.
Seeing Evan Lin so unconcerned, Manager Cui’s eyelid twitched again, and he felt increasingly dissatisfied with Evan’s attitude.
He didn’t set the caviar down right away, but continued, "Here’s the thing—your meal has already run up to about ten thousand yuan. How about you settle the bill first?"
"I’ll pay when I’m done eating."
Evan Lin raised his eyebrows and glanced at him. "Afraid I can’t pay or something?"
