Get Out, I Don't Want to See You
Su Li stared at the disheveled country girl before her. She knew this was her missing cousin, but now, looking at her, she was nothing like the timid, worshipful "Sister Li"-calling Lana Evans from her memories.
Lana Evans wore a maid's outfit. The exposed skin was mottled with bruises, some old, some fresh—clearly, she'd been hurt for a while.
Behind Lana Evans, she shielded a young man in fine clothes. His skin was pale, his face bruised from a beating, with shifty eyes and a weak, hollow look—clearly drained by a life of excess.
Su Li stared at the man, stunned, then recognized him: Wasn't this Jasper Cheng, the ignorant country upstart who'd tried to join the Academy several times?
At this moment, Lana Evans hadn’t noticed Su Li and Alexander Hayes entering. She was tense all over, her attention fixed entirely on Sam Evans and Jasper Cheng.
Jasper Cheng, looking utterly pathetic, hid behind Lana Evans. Gone was his usual swagger; now he cowered, only daring to stomp and shout from behind her, pointing at Sam Evans and yelling, "Yeah, and who are you! I can beat my own maid if I want—none of your business! Mind your own vegetables, busybody!"
Sam Evans’s eyes turned red, nearly crazed as he tried to rush forward: "You bastard, how dare you hit my daughter! I’ll kill you—I’ll take your life!"
As Sam Evans spoke, he lunged at Jasper Cheng, who turned pale with fear and scrambled backward.
Jasper Cheng, pampered and arrogant at home, wilted at the sight of real aggression—more cowardly than anyone, he shrieked, "Cynthia, save me!"
Cynthia Green sprang out, rushed over and gave Sam Evans a hard shove, sending him sprawling. She snapped, "Are you deaf or just stupid? I told you to stay out of it—why can't you understand plain words? Get lost! I don't want to see you!"
"Lana!" Sam Evans looked at his daughter, who now regarded him as her enemy. Despair and helplessness overwhelmed him as he scrambled up from the ground, trying to grab Cynthia Green's hand, only to have her fiercely shake him off.
Cynthia Green glared and shouted, "Don't call me Lana. Lana Evans is dead! I'm Cynthia now, Jasper Cheng's maid! I belong to Young Master Jasper in life and death. If you dare touch my master, I won't let you get away with it!"
"Lana, you..." Sam Evans looked at his daughter, heartbroken by her self-destruction. He collapsed to the ground, murmuring, "Lana, how did you become like this? You weren't like this before... You used to always listen to your father..."
"Don't talk about the past. It's all over! I told you, Lana Evans is dead. Call me Cynthia!" Cynthia Green snapped, glaring fiercely at Sam Evans. "I'm taking my man and leaving. If you try to stop me, I'll die right in front of you!"
With that, Cynthia Green walked over and helped Jasper Cheng to his feet.
Seeing Cynthia Green standing firmly by his side, Jasper Cheng was smug. He sneered down at Sam Evans, shouting, "Did you hear that, old man? Your daughter belongs to me now. She's devoted to me, whether I hit or scold her—it's all up to me! Even if I humiliate her every day, she'll still crawl into bed like a loyal dog. What can you do about it, old dog? Get lost!"
As he spoke, Jasper Cheng started groping Cynthia Green right in front of Sam Evans, arrogantly taunting, "See? Your daughter lets me touch her willingly. It's none of your damn business!"
"You beast, I'll kill you!" Furious, Sam Evans grabbed a nearby stick and swung it at Jasper Cheng. Jasper yelped and dodged, then, quick as lightning, shoved Cynthia Green into the path of the stick.
