Returning to China

1/4/2026

The next day.

Jiro Hirayama reluctantly took Amy back to the base to finish the rest of his experiments.

Meanwhile, Rona Muir buried herself in her own research, working day and night without rest.

Lucas Lin was very well-behaved.

After his ankle healed, he didn’t run around anymore. Instead, he stayed in his room reading and watching acting clips, completely focused on honing his craft.

Five days passed quickly.

On the sixth day, the lab erupted in cheers!

Rona Muir finally managed to extract the substance and successfully added it to the cosmetics.

Once she took it home and did a sensitivity test, she could apply for a national patent!

Rona Muir called Sean Kerr, who was still in a meeting, to share the good news.

Sean Kerr hadn’t expected Rona Muir to get results so quickly.

Of course, he didn’t know that when Jiro Hirayama helped Rona Muir with the reagents, he also quietly corrected their experiment sequence and categories.

Otherwise, there’s no way it would’ve happened so fast.

A world-famous biochemist is no joke.

Sean Kerr said wistfully, “So, are you going back?”

Rona Muir replied, “Yes. Right now, only Cici and Morgan are holding down the fort at home, so I can’t stay away for too long. Lately, Morgan’s been a bit unsettled—maybe she still hasn’t recovered from what happened before.”

“Alright then,” Sean Kerr said, disappointed. “Let’s get together again next time if we get the chance.”

“Sure,” Rona Muir agreed calmly.

She really had let go.

Everything from the past was behind her now. She no longer had any lingering feelings in her heart.

She could get along with Sean Kerr in a completely peaceful way now.

But whether Sean Kerr could really let go—only he knew for sure.

Rona Muir booked her flight home, and Lucas Lin went back with her.

On the plane, Rona Muir joked, “If we walk out of the airport together, am I going to get mobbed?”

Lucas Lin smiled slightly, “This trip is personal, so my company doesn’t have my flight info. But I just called my agent, and he’ll pick me up at the airport.”

“That works,” Rona Muir checked the time and said, “I’ll head back first.”

Lucas Lin looked at Rona Muir, reluctant to part. “Can I come visit you?”

“Of course you can.” Rona Muir smiled and patted Lucas Lin’s arm.

She saw Lucas Lin as a younger brother. Even though she’d kissed him just to annoy Jiro Hirayama, she really didn’t have any feelings for Lucas Lin.

Besides, Lucas Lin might be twenty-six, but his baby face could easily pass for eighteen.

With such a good-looking and well-behaved little brother, of course Rona Muir wouldn’t say no.

When Rona Muir said yes, Lucas Lin’s face instantly lit up with a big smile.

Rona Muir got off the plane first.

Lucas Lin stared for a long time before grabbing his bag, getting off the plane, and taking the shuttle to wait for his luggage.

Rona Muir’s luggage was handled by staff, so she didn’t have to lift a finger. As soon as she landed, someone picked her up and took her straight to the company.

“President Mu, all your luggage has been delivered to the R&D department,” her assistant reported. “About that seed you mentioned—can’t we just plant it here?”

“Seems like we can’t.” Rona Muir propped her fingers against her forehead and said, “I’ve looked into it. The soil and water over there are different, which is why that Subtype Castor Bean can grow. If you change the environment, the special properties disappear.”

“That’s wild,” the assistant complained. “So we’ll have to ship seeds from halfway across the world?”

“We’ll see,” Rona Muir replied. “We could always build a factory over there and process the raw materials directly.”

Rona Muir realized Sean Kerr hadn’t come back yet, so she said, “Let’s talk about this later! By the way, how’s the Jade Petal Naturals production line going?”

“Vice President Yun has taken over this project,” the assistant reported. “It seems to be going pretty well.”

“That’s good,” Rona Muir stretched and said, “I’m totally wiped out from these days abroad.”

“President Mu, you have some nerve! You went to Southeast Asia with President Gu, but she came back and you’re still out there having fun.” The assistant couldn’t help but tease.

Honestly, it’s only because she’s been with this assistant for so many years that she can get away with it.

If it were anyone else, who’d dare roast their boss like that?

Rona Muir couldn’t be bothered to respond. She tapped the assistant’s forehead and said, “I don’t care, I need to adjust to the time zone. And the season. I’m going to rest—email me if it’s urgent. If it’s really urgent, report to Cici.”

“Yes, President Mu!” the assistant replied helplessly.

Rona Muir got home, played with her adorable kid for a bit, then went straight to her room to catch up on sleep.

She slept for more than twenty hours before finally feeling rested.

When she opened her eyes, it was already evening.

Her stomach was growling, so she asked the housekeeper to make her a bowl of easy-to-digest chicken noodle soup, then turned on the TV to unwind for the evening.

Rona Muir randomly picked a channel, not really caring what was on—just something to have on while she ate.

Just then, a scene from a web drama was playing on TV.

The male lead in the scene was none other than Lucas Lin.

Rona Muir focused for a moment and realized his performance was actually really impressive—he was so cool and confident, totally different from his usual gentle self.

Instantly interested, Rona Muir grabbed her phone and looked up the show. To her surprise, it was wildly popular right now.

The web drama was based on a novel—the male lead was strong and passionate, full of pride, fighting bravely against fate and refusing to give in.

Lucas Lin brought the character to life, earning a huge fanbase and becoming this year’s undisputed king of popularity.

Rona Muir also checked Lucas Lin’s Weibo and saw he already had tens of millions of fans. He wasn’t quite at the top-tier level yet, but in this era of so many stars, he was doing great.
