Shot Him a Fierce Glare
Because her Divine Father was so strict and wouldn’t let her leave home, Soren Lann would sneak her out to Enlightenment Peak to play.
Later, after he ascended as Qilin Divine Lord and took charge of the Radiant Palace, he couldn’t be with her every day anymore. So he’d have people deliver gifts to her all the time.
But back then, she just took it all for granted...
Maybe she really was a little slow on the uptake.
But... she didn’t actually think she was dull.
At least when it came to Sean Shaw, she was anything but slow.
She fished out another Messenger Charm.
This one belonged to Sean.
Would he reach out to her?
She placed the Messenger Charm by her pillow and stared at it all night. It never lit up once.
......
The next morning, Mia Quinn was waiting outside her door.
When she saw Lucy, her face was full of guilt. "Lucy, I’m sorry."
"What’s wrong?"
Mia gave herself a hard smack on the cheek. "I always blurt things out before I think! Sorry! Seriously, I’m really sorry."
Lucy grabbed her hand. "It’s fine!"
"But you’ve got such dark circles under your eyes!" Mia said.
Lucy took a deep breath. "Come on! Let’s perk up! We can’t lose!"
They were heading straight from the Elderworld to Cangwu.
On the way, Lucy stole a glance at Sean.
He was surrounded by such a heavy, icy aura, it was like he’d turned into a block of ice.
With his face so pale, he looked even more like ice.
Nobody dared go near him. Everyone kept their distance...
So, when he slammed the door and left, was it because he thought she was two-timing him?
Did he think a woman like her was someone he ought to cut off?
She lowered her head and took a deep breath. When she looked up again, her face was just as frosty.
......
Cangwu had an enormous stone forest.
Year-round, it was shrouded in thick fog, forming a natural maze array.
"Inside this maze array, each squad will face four checkpoints.
Each checkpoint has to be cracked using the Ranked Soldier Formation Arts.
Between those four checkpoints, there are more maze arrays.
In these mazes, some team members will have to stay behind to open the exit.
So, the captain’s choices are especially important.
Final rankings will be determined by the order in which each captain reaches the finish line.
Got it?" Divine Lord Tanya Quinn asked.
Everyone said they understood.
Lucy was really off her game today.
And her luck was just plain rotten.
Twice, she left the wrong people behind in the maze, making it impossible to clear the next checkpoint.
So she had no choice but to double back and swap people.
The way back was all fog again.
After struggling for most of the day, they finally cracked all four arrays.
Everyone was getting anxious.
Once all four arrays were broken, they urged her to hurry to the finish.
Only the captain reaching the end counted.
Lucy was both frantic and depressed.
The last-place team would have to lose two members.
She didn’t want to drag her teammates down.
She dashed through a few more maze arrays, finally reaching the finish line.
From a distance, she spotted a natural stone archway, where Divine Lord Tanya Quinn and His Majesty the Celestial Emperor were waiting.
There were already lots of people behind them.
All of them had already finished the trial and exited the array.
Lucy flew over as fast as she could—almost crashed into someone.
She turned her head and saw it was Sean.
He saw her too, then just stood there, frozen.
"Come on!"
"Run!"
"You two are the only ones left—what are you waiting for!"
The ones who’d already finished started shouting.
Both of them snapped out of it and flew for the stone archway at the same time.
Lucy shot Sean a fierce glare.
Sean faltered for a split second.
Lucy seized the moment and dashed through the arch, snagging third place.
Sean was the last one left, drifting across slowly.
