How Can I Be Your Boss If I Don't Come

12/19/2025

Elder Samuel asked, "Were you responsible for what happened last time too?"

Winston Wood replied, "...Yes!"

"Outrageous! A Spirit Healer who treats lives as a joke isn't worthy of the title!" Elder Samuel said angrily. "Give him forty lashes, revoke his Healer's License, and expel him from the Spirit Alchemist Guild!"

Winston Wood collapsed to the ground, pale-faced, and was dragged away by the guards.

"Chloe Zhu, starting today, you and Elder Conrad are reinstated. Take good care of the Vermilion Chapter!" Victor Summer, standing beside Elder Samuel, said with a smile.

"Thank you, President Victor Summer!" Chloe Zhu said, beaming.

President Victor Summer smiled and glanced at James Kee. "Vice President Kee, you don't have any objections, do you?"

James Kee did his best to maintain his composure, forcing a stiff smile. "No objections."

——

Honestly, every Spirit Healer here is a once-in-a-generation genius—no one in this room is a fool.

Everyone could see that Winston Wood was taking all the blame.

Although Elder Samuel didn't dig any deeper, some things had quietly changed.

Originally, while Henry Chen was away, James Kee was in charge.

Everyone thought the new leader of the Eastern Alliance was a sure thing—it had to be him.

He thought so too.

But in the end, the announced leader of the Eastern Alliance wasn't him.

It was President Victor Summer.

——

Chloe Zhu walked up to Felix Xi, holding the silver hairpin she'd worn earlier.

"Thank you!" Chloe Zhu said brightly. "I'm giving it back to you."

Felix Xi took the silver hairpin back and put it away.

"This hairpin belonged to my mother," Felix Xi said. "Elder Samuel recognized it, which is why he helped you."

"I get it!" Chloe Zhu said, looking at him with a hint of worry. "Does the Grand Elder know about you?"

"No one knows except Elder Samuel."

Chloe Zhu nodded.

"Are you coming?" Felix Xi asked, eyes twinkling.

"Coming for what?"

"The Eastern Alliance."

"Of course I'm coming," Chloe Zhu replied, grinning.

Felix Xi's lips curled into a sly smile.

"If you don't come, how can I be your boss?"

Felix Xi's face turned serious again, and he spun on his heel to leave.

Chloe Zhu watched his retreating back and waved cheerfully, "Senior Brother, see you after the New Year!"

Felix Xi didn't look back, but he nodded slightly before striding away.

——

Back at her place, Henry Chen was waiting for her.

"President! Henry Chen has not failed you!" Henry Chen greeted Chloe Zhu respectfully.

"Get up, quick!" Chloe Zhu helped him up herself. "You've really had a rough time lately!"

"It's an honor to serve the President!"

Chloe Zhu said, "From now on, you'll be the head steward of the Vermilion Chapter!"

"Yes! Thank you, President!" Henry Chen said happily.

——

Back when Chloe Zhu was in trouble, she sent a letter to Quentin Qin, the former President of the Vermilion Chapter.

She explained her situation to Quentin Qin and asked if there was anyone among the Vermilion Chapter's staff who was truly reliable.

Quentin Qin recommended Henry Chen to her.

Chloe Zhu observed Henry Chen and found him to be extremely reliable and meticulous.

So she decided to trust him.

First, she put on a show and pretended to be enemies with Henry Chen.

Then she helped him pull off a few schemes, earned some merit, and became Winston Wood's most trusted person.

And that's how today's dramatic reversal happened.

——

Longyuan.

After a period of recuperation, Evan Xiao's injuries were completely healed.

He ordered someone to bring Leon Zane to him.

"Your Highness, you're fully recovered!" Leon Zane said after checking his pulse.

"I'm not asking you here for a check-up," Evan Xiao said.

"Then why did you call me here? Let me be clear, I'm not sparring with you!" Leon Zane said, arms crossed.
