Hugo saw his mother walking straight toward a glowing circle formed by a swarm of fireflies.
And just beyond that circle of fireflies, there was a sheer cliff!
If his mother took just one more step forward, she’d be shattered to pieces!
Hugo frantically lunged toward the circle of fireflies and bit down on his mother’s pants, desperately pulling her back.
"Woof woof woof woof..." Hugo was so anxious he was about to cry, trying to wake his mother up: "Don’t go down there, don’t go over! No, no! Mom, wake up, please, wake up!"
Molly Yun kept her eyes closed, completely oblivious to Hugo’s cries, and kept walking forward mechanically.
If she took another step, she’d step right into that glowing circle!
Hugo was just a dog, but his instincts told him that glowing circle was dangerous.
He could sense it—if his mother stepped into that circle, he’d lose her forever!
But he really couldn’t hold his mother back anymore!
Right now, his mother was much stronger than she’d ever been—way, way stronger.
So strong it was almost unnatural.
Hugo knew he couldn’t hesitate any longer. He had to wake his mother up, even if it cost him blood!
If his mother woke up and hated him for it, he still wouldn’t regret it!
Hugo opened his mouth and bit straight into Molly Yun’s calf muscle.
His huge canine teeth sank deep into Molly Yun’s calf, and the sharp pain instantly shot through her whole body.
Almost immediately, Molly Yun snapped out of her sleepwalking state.
The moment Molly Yun woke up, she instinctively looked down at her calf.
But that one glance nearly made Molly Yun faint on the spot!
Hugo pulled his teeth out, and blood poured down her calf!
But Hugo was grinning from ear to ear.
He was so happy—he’d saved his mother!
If it were any ordinary person, their first reaction to their pet biting them would probably be anger, maybe even to kill it.
But Molly Yun didn’t.
She’d always known Hugo wasn’t the kind of dog who would bite without reason.
Molly Yun steadied herself. "Hugo?"
Hugo heard his mother call him, wagged his tail happily, and then growled furiously at the fireflies in front of Molly Yun, as if cursing those shameless little brats who almost took his mother away.
Only now did Molly Yun realize there was a swarm of fireflies dancing in front of her, circling her nonstop, as if urging her to go somewhere.
Hugo barked at Molly Yun’s feet, reminding her not to take another step forward.
Molly Yun immediately understood Hugo’s warning and squatted down, using the faint glow of the fireflies to see the path beneath her.
One more step forward would have sent her into an endless abyss!
Molly Yun gasped—how did she end up here?
Suddenly, it hit Molly Yun: Hugo had bitten her to stop her from jumping!
Ignoring the pain in her leg, Molly Yun hugged Hugo tightly: "My Hugo, my Hugo! Thank you for saving me!"
Hugo happily licked Molly Yun’s face.
He wasn’t rejected by his mother—he was so happy!
He had to protect his mother!
Molly Yun held Hugo, calming herself for nearly ten minutes before her emotions finally settled.
She checked her calf where Hugo had bitten. Since he hadn’t torn at it, there were just four puncture marks from his teeth.
The wounds weren’t deep, but they weren’t shallow either.
Without medicine, she’d soon get infected and run a fever—and die in this damned place!
Molly Yun checked what she had on her.
Luckily, she always slept fully dressed, and she’d gotten used to carrying some basic medicines with her.
So she didn’t hesitate—she disinfected and medicated her wound right away.
Even though Hugo had all his vaccines, because she kept a dog, Molly Yun also routinely carried rabies shots.
Without a second thought, Molly Yun gave herself an injection.
Hugo circled Molly Yun, whining and urging her to go back.
Once Molly Yun finished bandaging her wound, she found a stick to use as a crutch and started heading back with Hugo.
But she couldn’t find the way back anymore.
She had no communication devices, no food, no clean water.
She knew she had to contact her people, or else she and Hugo would disappear in this magnetic-chaos jungle.
Even facing such a terrible situation, Molly Yun didn’t panic.
She calmly gathered some stones and made a symbol—a cross-flower—on the ground.
As long as her people came looking, they’d be able to follow the trail she left behind.
Daylight slowly broke, sunlight filtering through the thick canopy, casting dappled shadows on her and Hugo.
Hugo quietly followed behind her, cautiously watching the surroundings.
Hugo couldn’t talk, but he already sensed this jungle was like a monster, ready to swallow him and his mother whole.
Hugo had to protect his mother, so he stayed glued to her side.
After walking all night, Molly Yun finally couldn’t go on and collapsed to the ground.
Hugo anxiously circled her, licking Molly Yun’s cheek to comfort her.
"Hugo, try to find something to eat." Molly Yun cupped Hugo’s face in her hands and gave him a clear command: "Do you understand, sweetie? Go find food!"
Hugo understood, but he didn’t want to leave his mother—he was scared that if he left, those bratty fireflies would come and take her away.
Molly Yun patted Hugo’s head and said, "Good boy, Hugo. I can’t walk far right now, so you have to help me."
Hugo looked down at his mother’s leg—the wound he’d made.
Hugo’s heart ached for his mother.
Then Hugo turned and darted into the woods to hunt.
Molly Yun sat where she was, in the sunlight, and started thinking about how she’d ended up here.
Molly Yun lifted her hand and looked at her palm, remembering why she’d come here in the first place.

She’d always worried about her sister’s health.
Xixi’s body had been through a lot—though medicine had helped, Molly Yun knew her sister’s foundation was already worn out.
Unless something miraculous happened, her sister wouldn’t live a long life. Making it to sixty or seventy would already be pushing it.
But just a few days ago, she’d accidentally gotten her hands on some tea leaves.
The Yun family had three treasures: books, medicine, and tea.
So Molly Yun was highly skilled in tea research.
She’d immediately sensed something special about these tea leaves: they contained a life-giving essence.
Molly Yun extracted a tea solution and did a preliminary test.
She was surprised to find the tea contained a substance that could repair human genes.
Basically, it was a compound that could fix gene telomeres.
If she could successfully extract it, it could greatly extend the human lifespan.
Realizing this, Molly Yun was absolutely thrilled!
Back when she was bedridden, she’d always dreamed of finding a medicine that could prolong life, so she could see more of the world.
She never had a chance before.
But now, that chance had landed right in front of her.
If she gave up so easily, she wouldn’t be Molly Yun!
Molly Yun didn’t tell anyone else—she just let her family know she was going to look for a new tea tree.
Eric Jiang didn’t think much of it, since the Yun family knew tea best.
So Eric Jiang, who’d inherited the family business, just arranged a team of bodyguards for Molly Yun and let her leave home.
After asking around, Molly Yun pinpointed the location of the tea tree—in the jungle on a huge island near the South Pacific.
Molly Yun’s plan was actually very thorough.
Everyone she brought was a top-tier elite, each equipped with enough gear to ensure their safety.
Even if they ran into a huge herd of animals, they could all make it out alive.
But for all her calculations, Molly Yun never imagined she’d end up separating from her team and landing in this strange place.
Molly Yun instinctively sensed something was wrong.
She’d never been a sleepwalker—how could she suddenly start sleepwalking?
She was always careful about what she ate, so she definitely hadn’t accidentally ingested anything poisonous.
So why was she here?
Molly Yun’s mind raced through all the possibilities, but she still had no clue.
She had a ridiculous suspicion: "Could someone have deliberately lured me here?"
Otherwise, how else would she have gotten that pack of magical tea leaves?
