Chapter 999: Demi-plane

That’s the only way to explain why those Blazeforge Orcs were so desperate to seize this Mana Crystal…

Adding to that, the spatial power within the Mana Crystal just resonated with a distant place—Leon pretty much understood what was going on.

After putting away the Mana Crystal, Leon checked the direction and led his people toward where the resonance had occurred.

The next day, heading that way, Leon and his group encountered yet another Sky Rank Beast.

Staring at the colossal beast crouched in the distance—at least sixty or seventy meters tall—Leon’s brows furrowed slightly.

It was an Ice Ape. No matter how you looked at it, every feature screamed Ice Ape.

White fur covered its entire body, eyes a piercing blue, claws jet-black. Atop its head was a tuft of blue hair like gathered frost. Each breath sent white mist curling from its nostrils, and with every exhale, shards of frost scattered across the ground.

Its Sky Rank aura silently suppressed everything within a thousand meters. Where the Ice Ape stood, the ground was blanketed in frost; though the sky was clear, snow kept drifting down.

What made Leon frown was that, just like the Red Flame Fire Fox, this Ice Ape was a low-grade magical beast with inferior bloodline. There was nothing of a high-tier beast’s blood in its veins. Normally, an adult Ice Ape only reached level ten, and even an Ice Ape King topped out at fifteen.

The Ice Ape King was marked by that tuft of blue hair atop its head—this one was clearly the king among Ice Apes.

For a low-grade magical beast like this to advance, it would have to strengthen its bloodline. But that means the Ice Ape’s lineage would be replaced by another, and in the end, it would evolve into a different beast entirely. After its rank increased, it would no longer be an Ice Ape.

To reach Sky Rank—even with luck that would make gods and demons jealous—the outcome is the same: it would stop being an Ice Ape. Maybe it’d become a spell-casting Three-headed Frost Ape Demon, or a Frost Giant Ape hundreds of meters tall.

Whatever the outcome, its Ice Ape traits would never remain intact. Strictly speaking, whether it’s a Three-headed Frost Ape Demon or a Frost Giant Ape, neither is truly the same species as the Ice Ape. They’re entirely different, just vaguely similar.

Thinking of that Red Flame Fire Fox, then looking at this Ice Ape, Leon guessed that this big guy was probably just like the Red Flame Fire Fox—its Mana Crystal held powerful spatial energy, but it couldn’t actually use that power.

While Leon was pondering this, the distant Ice Ape seemed to notice them. It bared its teeth, stood up, and grabbed a nearby ice ball—seven or eight meters across—hurling it straight at Leon and his group.

That ice ball, easily seven or eight meters wide, was like a pebble in the Ice Ape’s massive hand—standing over a hundred meters tall. It whistled through the air, breaking the sound barrier, and in less than two seconds, it crossed over a thousand meters to smash into where Leon’s group was.

Boom—

A thunderous crash—the small hill where Leon’s group had just been was blasted apart.

Seeing its attack fail, the Ice Ape hammered its chest with both arms, the sound rumbling like muffled thunder. It opened its maw wide—inside, a deep blue Destruction Energy Sphere began to form.

In an instant, that Destruction Energy Sphere rapidly expanded, growing to seven or eight meters across. Deep blue energy swirled inside, radiating pure destruction. As it shot forward, the air was forcefully blasted aside, as if both air and magic elements parted before it.

Space trembled. The next second, the Destruction Energy Sphere slammed into the hill—a black-blue mushroom cloud rose up, and the earth shook violently.

A blue shockwave swept out from the impact, freezing everything in its path—splintered trees, floating stones, all were instantly encased in ice.

In less than a second, everything within three hundred meters was frozen solid. The terrifying cold surged outward, dropping the temperature crazily. Snowflakes began to fall, and in less than a second, they thickened into a blizzard.

Leon dodged into the air with his Patchwork Golem and Hubert, while the others also took flight to evade the Destruction Energy Sphere.

"Damn it, these Sky Rank Beasts have zero finesse—pure destruction. So many good places get wiped out by these idiots’ battles…"

Andefar cursed aloud. The Destruction Energy Sphere was crude—just raw energy impact—but it worked, and its destructive power was terrifying. No mage would fight like this; any Sky Rank mage could use the same amount of mana for far greater destruction.

But Sky Rank Beasts have absurd mana reserves—even these brute-force attacks can blow a Sky Rank powerhouse to bits…

Fights between Transcendent Beasts are called terrain-destroying wars for a reason. And this was just a level 40 Sky Rank Beast—if it were level 49, the battle could reshape dozens of kilometers, obliterating everything several times over…

Leon frowned, then charged forward. After three strides, his body suddenly grew, instantly transforming into a nine-meter-tall Lava Giant.

Suddenly, the Death Tome appeared in Leon’s left hand. The ancient chains binding its cover unlocked on their own, and the tome began to flip its pages.

In an instant, dense magma runes appeared all over Leon’s Lava Giant form, flowing along the cracks in its body. The Lava Giant grew again, reaching sixteen or seventeen meters tall.

A clearer image of a wheel appeared behind Leon, while his Violet Drake Avatar manifested as a spectral purple dragon.

Leon’s aura surged wildly. Winds howled, and the ground around the Lava Giant split and rolled, magma erupting everywhere. In an instant, the three hundred meters around him turned into a lake of lava.

A wave of magma carried Leon swiftly toward the Ice Ape, his terrifying aura matching the beast’s.

The Ice Ape roared in fury, swiping its hand through the air—frost gathered in its palm, and it slapped toward Leon. Instantly, a rain of ice spikes—hundreds of them, each seven or eight meters long—came crashing down.

Leon’s body flickered three times in rapid succession, speeding through the air to within three hundred meters of the Ice Ape. The Doombringer Staff in his hand blazed with crimson light.

The light transformed into the image of a giant dragon, which roared silently.

Instantly, the lava in the pool turned into dozens of magma dragons, all charging at the Ice Ape. The searing magma struck the beast’s body, sending up clouds of white steam like hot coals dropped into icy water.
