Bring Paper and Pen
Elder Conrad glanced at Grace.
Grace nodded.
So, Elder Conrad left, and Grace personally accompanied him back to the VIP room.
Rina Chu followed Grace in and brewed a pot of tea for them.
"Prince Zane Tuoba, you sent Elder Conrad away. Is there something you need to discuss?" Grace asked with a smile.
"Who is responsible for refining this batch of medicine?" Prince Zane Tuoba asked.
"It's Vice President Conrad who is in charge," Grace replied.
"This time, what I asked you to refine is the extremely precious Soulveil Sand, used by the army to make anti-poison masks! You need to have the most talented Spiritual Alchemist in your Spirit Alliance in charge!" Prince Zane Tuoba said.
"Vice President Conrad has the most experience in the Spirit Alliance," Grace said.
"Experience?" Prince Zane Tuoba chuckled. "No offense, but if experience was all that mattered, would you be the President? What I want is the 'most gifted' Spiritual Alchemist."
"Oh... If Prince Zane Tuoba wants me to refine it personally, I can do that too," Grace said.
"You're the President, how could I trouble you?" Prince Zane Tuoba replied. "Let the other genius with the Celestial Five-Element Root in your Spirit Alliance handle it!"
"The other Celestial Five-Element Root? You mean Lily Xu?" Grace asked.
"That's right! Her!"
In her previous life, after the Duke Zhao Mansion fell, Lily Xu latched onto Prince Zane Tuoba.
In this life, she's tangled up with him again...
Actually, Lily Xu could indeed refine this batch of Soulveil Sand.
But if something goes wrong, wouldn't Grace, as the President, have to take the blame?
Soulveil Sand is extracted from Soulveil Bamboo—a whole bundle of bamboo yields only a tiny bit.
Soulveil Bamboo is already incredibly rare and extremely expensive.
If Lily Xu decides to play dirty, who would she turn to for help?
Besides, the rewards for this batch of spiritual medicine are extremely generous—why should Grace let Lily Xu have them?
Grace smiled and said, "Prince Zane Tuoba, you might be mistaken. I became President not because I have the highest talent, but because my Spiritual Alchemist rank is the highest.
Vice President Conrad is an eighth-level Spiritual Alchemist—the highest rank besides myself. So, for the sake of caution, I believe Vice President Conrad is the better choice."
Prince Zane Tuoba's face darkened. "I said to switch to Lily Xu, so switch!"
Grace paused and said, "If Prince Zane Tuoba insists on changing people, fine! Rina Chu, bring paper and pen!"
Rina Chu brought the paper and pen.
Grace handed the paper and pen to Prince Zane Tuoba and said, "Prince Zane Tuoba, please write it yourself: the change is at your request. If anything goes wrong because of this, you and Lily Xu will bear full responsibility. It has nothing to do with anyone else in the Spirit Alliance!"
"Absurd!" Prince Zane Tuoba was furious. "Refining medicine is your Spirit Alliance's business. How can you push the responsibility onto me?"
"That's right! Refining medicine is our Spirit Alliance's business, and I've made what I believe to be the most appropriate arrangement," Grace said. "But if you insist on replacing the chief alchemist I consider unqualified, then all consequences must be borne by you alone."
Prince Zane Tuoba's expression turned cold. "Are you threatening me?"
"Of course not! I just truly believe Lily Xu isn't suitable, and I wouldn't feel at ease if she were in charge."
Prince Zane Tuoba was silent for a moment, then said, "How about this? Let Vice President Conrad do the refining, and then just sign Lily Xu's name on it."
So it's obvious he wants Vice President Conrad to do all the work while Lily Xu takes the credit?
"That's impossible!" Grace said firmly. "Our Spirit Alliance has its own rules, and doing so would violate them."
