The man radiated an utterly terrifying aura, and Blade instantly sensed hostility flashing in his eyes.
"Hey, you're Evan Lin?"
After Evan Lin and Blade approached, the man strode forward, stopped in front of Evan, and sized him up. "Tsk, not bad, you’re a little handsome. You can keep a straight face in front of me, which makes you better than that kid Kai Chen. But I just wanted to see what kind of boy could make Selina Wu risk being put in confinement."
The man was surprised to see Evan Lin’s calm face. "The Jinnan Chen family and the Oceanport Guan family are both old friends of the Wu family. Now, thanks to you, Selina Wu pissed off Kai Chen, and as if that wasn’t enough, she nearly crippled Gavin Guan. The family patriarch is furious—he’s ordered Selina Wu into strict confinement to reflect, and soon he’ll personally bring her to Oceanport to apologize to the Guan family."
Even though he wasn’t deliberately releasing his aura, most soldiers would still get nervous and uneasy around him.
Ever since Selina Wu stood on Jingwei Peak and threw harsh words at Gavin Guan and the Oceanport crowd, then made it clear she was firmly on Evan Lin’s side, Evan hadn’t heard a thing about her for days.
He only knew Selina Wu had fallen out with Kai Chen over some kid named Evan Lin, then went so far as to say she’d call Warren Wu and Allen Ju to come back and drive Gavin Guan out of Jinnan.
Evan Lin glanced at him. He didn’t recognize the guy and had no impression of him.
"You really didn’t know? Tsk tsk, looks like Selina Wu’s taste sucks. How’d she fall for a heartless guy like you?" The man snorted with a mocking grin.
"No big deal. I just wanted to see what kind of kid could make Selina Wu risk getting thrown into confinement." The man dangled a cigarette from his mouth, looking cocky and streetwise.
"She’s been put in confinement?"
Hearing the man’s words, Evan Lin was taken aback.
"If it comes down to it, I’ll take responsibility. If you want, Gavin Guan can drop dead tomorrow—I’ll handle everything." Evan Lin said coolly.
Evan hadn’t thought much of it. Selina was a student at Peiying High School, and he hadn’t been over there at all, so it was normal not to see or contact her.
But now, hearing the man mention it, Evan’s brows furrowed slightly.
"You really didn’t know? Tsk tsk, looks like Selina Wu’s taste sucks. How’d she fall for a heartless guy like you?" The man snorted with a mocking grin.
As he spoke, the cigarette bobbed up and down between his lips.
"Watch your mouth!" Blade snapped, his face darkening at the man’s words.
"Watch my mouth? Go tell Deputy Commander Su that. You think you have the guts to lecture me?" The man scoffed, shooting Blade a glare, his aura domineering.
He only knew Selina Wu had fallen out with Kai Chen over some kid named Evan Lin, then went so far as to say she’d call Warren Wu and Allen Ju to come back and drive Gavin Guan out of Jinnan.
The man held himself in check, voice sharp: "Remember, my name’s Martin Wu! I don’t want to see you tangled up with Selina Wu again—or have any contact with her, period!"
"Why was she put in confinement?" Evan Lin asked, voice steady.
"Why? You still don’t get it? I heard you used some trick to drive Kai Chen away from Selina Wu, and I actually respected you for daring to provoke Colonel Sean Chen. But now I have to change my mind. Looks like you’re just hiding behind Selina Wu and letting her take all the bullets for you." The man sneered and shook his head.
"Whether it’s the Jinnan Chen family or the Oceanport Guan family, both are old friends of the Wu family. Now, Selina Wu offended Kai Chen for you, and even worse, she nearly crippled Gavin Guan. The old patriarch is furious and has ordered Selina Wu to reflect deeply. Soon, he’ll personally take her to Oceanport to apologize to the Guan family."
"Do you even know what that means?"
The man narrowed his eyes, staring coldly at Evan Lin.
He only knew Selina Wu had fallen out with Kai Chen over some kid named Evan Lin, then went so far as to say she’d call Warren Wu and Allen Ju to come back and drive Gavin Guan out of Jinnan.
"Selina Wu, I never realized how much guts it took to say what you did."
Evan Lin muttered to himself, thinking of Selina Wu’s ever-confident face, and sighed softly.
Evan Lin didn’t really get what ‘confinement’ meant in this context. The longest he’d ever secluded himself was fifty years without stepping out of a cave. And as for the Wu family? He barely knew anything about them, so this kind of ‘confinement’ was beyond him.
"It means that after confinement, Selina will probably lose her freedom—at least a year, maybe up to five. She won’t be allowed back until the Guan family forgives her!"
As he spoke, the man stepped up, glaring at Evan Lin from above, practically looking down his nose at him.
"If it comes down to it, I’ll take responsibility. If you want, Gavin Guan can drop dead tomorrow—I’ll handle everything." Evan Lin said coolly.
The man’s face went through a whole rollercoaster of emotions. "You think he dies just because you say so? That won’t solve anything! It’ll just make things way worse!"
"Honestly, if Selina hadn’t warned me before I came not to touch you—or else she’d stop calling me her brother—I’d have killed you already!"
The man’s jaw clenched, fists tight, eyes cold as ice.
"Go ahead, try me. And I promise, for Selina Wu’s sake, even if you lose, you won’t pay too big a price. I’ll spare your life—and I won’t break your arms or legs." Evan Lin’s voice was calm as ever.
Hearing that, the man took a deep breath, yanked the cigarette from his mouth, tossed it on the ground, and stomped it out.
"Big talk! But I promised Selina I wouldn’t lay a hand on you, so I won’t. Still, you’d better stay away from her from now on!"
"I heard you two met in Whitewood County, Seacrest Prefecture? You’re just some kid from a small town. I don’t know how you got in with Deputy Commander Su to end up here, but let me warn you—don’t try to force your way into circles where you don’t belong. If you do, no one will be able to save you!"
The man held himself in check, voice sharp: "Remember, my name’s Martin Wu! I don’t want to see you tangled up with Selina Wu again—or have any contact with her, period!"
"She might shield you from the Guan family’s wrath in Oceanport, but you’re a man—stop running your mouth about killing people or breaking limbs. Who do you think you are? Some kind of superman? What a joke!"
With one last warning, Martin Wu strode off toward the parking lot, skipping the Single-Soldier Showdown. He got in his SUV, floored it, and drove away.
"What’s the Wu family’s story?" Evan Lin asked, watching the car disappear.
"Wu family... I’m not really sure myself." Blade shook his head.
"Alright, let’s head in."
Evan Lin nodded, hands behind his back, and walked into the Drill Grounds.
"Selina Wu, I never realized how much guts it took to say what you did."
Evan Lin muttered to himself, thinking of Selina Wu’s ever-confident face, and sighed softly.
