After Miles Gu returned to his room, he drew the curtains shut, lay down on the sofa, and stared blankly at the ceiling.
What could he do to win Yina Yin back?
Just then, Elisa Field timidly approached, clutching a phone in her hand. "Miles, the Head Housekeeper wants to speak with you."
"You went to him for help?" Miles Gu glanced at Elisa with contempt. "Foolish woman."
Elisa Field's face went pale, and she stammered, "N-no, it's not like that. The Head Housekeeper figured it out on his own."
Miles Gu couldn't be bothered to deal with Elisa. He reached out his hand. "Give me the phone."
He wanted to hear what cards the one who awakened him was holding.
The phone was handed to Miles Gu, and he immediately heard a kindly voice coming from the other end.
Miles Gu thought to himself, the primary persona must have been fooled by this voice and taken away back then.
"This is Miles Gu," he said.
"Heh, strictly speaking, you're not Miles Gu," the Head Housekeeper said. "You're Miles Field."
"What's the difference?"
"Of course there's a difference. You've probably noticed that the Yin Family has been cold towards you these days. That's because, even though you share the same face and body, he is him, and you are you. The Yin Family accepts the Primary Persona in this body, not you." The Head Housekeeper seemed to know Miles Gu was in a bad mood and deliberately picked words he didn't want to hear.
"Heh."
"Miss Yin likes Miles Gu, not Miles Field. Elisa has already told me everything that happened today. Miles, don't think that just because you control this body, you have nothing to fear. Without us, you wouldn't even be in this world." The Head Housekeeper threatened Miles Gu.
"So what?"
"It means nothing, since you've already been awakened. But have you considered how, without our support, you've lost the Yin Family and can't gain a foothold in the Field Family? The Grand Duke likes the Primary Persona Miles Gu, and so does your father. Have you thought about what would happen if the Grand Duke revoked your inheritance without our backing?"
Miles Gu stayed silent.
That really could happen.
"So, we need to keep working together." The Head Housekeeper seemed to have Miles Gu by the throat, sounding completely confident. "You must cut all ties with the Yin Family and become a true member of the Field Family. If you don't like Elisa, that's fine, I can arrange a better fiancée for you. In short, the Field Family's bloodline must remain pure. That's the only way the Field Family will have a future!"
"Miles, you have no right to refuse me. I can have you awakened, and I can have the Primary Persona awakened too." The Head Housekeeper kept threatening Miles. "You don't want to sleep forever, do you? Or never see the people you care about again? I really can't figure out what's so great about Miss Yin, that both the Primary and Second Persona are interested in her."
Miles Gu rubbed the edge of the sofa with his fingers.
Of course, this old man couldn't possibly understand what made Yina Yin so special.
Yina Yin, raised with the full power of her family, was leagues above a hundred Elisas.
A woman like her could not only support his future career with her vast connections, but also protect him along the way.
"Are you threatening me?" Miles Gu asked.
"That's right, I'm threatening you. Let me put it this way, we're not afraid to let you know the truth about yourself." The Head Housekeeper said, "In the end, you have no choice but to cooperate with us. The old Miles Gu only had the connections and resources he did because of the Yin Family. Now that the Yin Family has cut you off, even with this body, you can't accomplish anything big. No one outside knows about the Primary and Second Persona; they just think the Yin Family abandoned you. The only reason you still have access to the Yin Family's resources is because you haven't broken off the engagement with their heiress. Once you do, do you really think the people and assets that belonged to the Yin Family will still be at your disposal?"
Miles Gu thought it over and had to admit the Head Housekeeper made sense.
Ever since he announced the breakup with Yina Yin, a lot of people had already stopped taking his orders.
Honestly, those people were all trained by the Yin Family.
They could take it all back whenever they wanted.
He needed to build his own team and influence.
Neither the Yin Family nor these lunatics could be relied upon.
"I've already heard everything you've been asking Elisa about me." The Head Housekeeper's tone grew heavier. "I don't care what you think of me—I'm doing this for your own good and for the family's future. Even if you end up hating me, so be it. Miles, don't try to go against me. It won't end well for you."
Miles Gu clenched his fists.
He absolutely hated the feeling of being controlled.
He'd inherited the connections and foundation from the Primary Persona, so why was he still being manipulated?
What would the Primary Persona do in this situation?
No, he couldn't think like that.
Even if the Primary Persona was better than him, he would never give up control of his own body!
Even if the Head Housekeeper had him under control right now, he absolutely couldn't let the Primary Persona awaken!
"Looks like you took my words to heart," the Head Housekeeper said, seeing that Miles Gu hadn't spoken for a long time and feeling rather pleased with himself.
"In three days, you'll be completely cut off from the Yin Family," the Head Housekeeper continued. "I'll arrange for an outstanding woman from our family to marry you. Your task is to produce a pure-blooded Field Family heir."
Miles Gu unclenched his fists.
"Fine. It's settled, then. We'll cooperate. I'll keep using Miles Gu's body to do your bidding, but you have to fully support my actions." Miles Gu said quietly. "First thing, get that foolish woman Elisa back here. She's only making things worse."
"Elisa can't come back yet," the Head Housekeeper hesitated before replying. "I can promise you, once you return, I'll arrange a new fiancée for you. You just declared Elisa as your beloved, and switching so soon would hurt your image. Miles, you need to think of the bigger picture."
Suddenly, the Head Housekeeper realized they might have made a mistake.
Miles Gu's Second Persona was really a mess, nowhere near as good as the Primary Persona.
If the Primary Persona were faced with this situation, he would never be so impulsive.
"Do whatever you want." Miles Gu was fed up and hung up the phone.
Miles Gu glanced coldly at Elisa Field in the room, as if he were looking at a corpse.
Elisa shivered and said, "It's not my fault. The Head Housekeeper figured it out. It's only because you grabbed my neck during the video call that he noticed..."
Her voice grew quieter and quieter, unable to finish the rest.
"Enough, there's nothing more to say now." Miles Gu looked at Elisa indifferently. "From now on, we're just business partners."
Elisa finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Did Miles Gu mean she'd managed to escape this ordeal?
"To the outside world, you're still my fiancée. Internally..."
"I get it, I get it, I won't bother you anymore," Elisa quickly replied.
"Alright, you can go now," Miles Gu waved her away.
Only then did Elisa, feeling as if she'd been granted amnesty, quickly turn and leave.
Watching Elisa leave, Miles Gu's face was clouded with gloom.
He didn't want to admit he wasn't as good as the Primary Persona.
Why could the Primary Persona handle things so easily, while he couldn't?
He refused to accept it!
Whether it was status, wealth, or women, he was determined to do better than the Primary Persona!
He had to prove he was no worse than the Primary Persona!
Meanwhile, Yina Yin was on the villa's balcony, lost in thought with a cup of fruit tea in her hands.
Gavin Gao came over from inside and leaned on the balcony railing beside Yina. "Mind sharing a cup?"
Yina snapped out of her daze, saw it was Gavin, smiled, and handed him the fruit tea. "I haven't had any yet. If you don't mind, give it a try."
"Of course I don't mind." Gavin took it naturally, had a sip, and nodded. "It's good."
"Senior Gavin..." Yina hesitated, about to explain things to Gavin Gao.
But Gavin interrupted her. "Just call me Gavin, don't be so formal. Yina, you used to be much less distant."
Yina gave a bitter smile. "You noticed? Sorry, I'm just straightforward—I don't like beating around the bush. So I'll be honest. Sakura also advised me to give up on Miles and consider someone else. But after thinking it over, I can't accept anyone else right after ending a relationship. I just can't. So I probably can't accept you."
Gavin's eyes dimmed. "You're rejecting me so quickly and directly?"
"Isn't that better than stringing you along?" Yina tilted her head at Gavin.
The breeze tousled Yina's short hair, making her look a little messy and worn, but it didn't diminish her spirit.
"Honestly, I'd rather you did string me along," Gavin laughed. "That way, I could at least comfort myself that I still have hope. I know I'm not as good as Senior Miles, so it's understandable you don't like me. But Senior Miles—he's changed."
"It doesn't matter if he's changed or not, it's my problem," Yina replied. "I've thought about it seriously. If I can move on from this relationship, I'll start a new one. If I can't, that's fine too. With my status, no one dares call me a sad single, and my parents don't mind supporting me for life. But stringing you along—that's not right. I understand your feelings, but I can't accept them."
"Since you've told me your true feelings, let me tell you mine too." Gavin finished his fruit tea, leaned on the railing, and gazed at the distant fields. "You say you don't want to string me along, but I don't see it that way. I've liked you for ten years, and I knew from the start I had no chance, but I never gave up. Now that you're about to be single again, how could I give up so easily?"
