Unless She Saw a Ghost
Su Li's Study
White Pete slumped in the chair, looking utterly drained, while White Lily stood beside him.
Su Li smiled, "You've worked so hard making those disguise masks lately, Master White. Now that we're gradually rooting out the spies, there'll be fewer caught in the days ahead—and you won't be so exhausted!"
White Pete waved it off. "It's fine. A bit of exhaustion is nothing—helping Chancellor Su gives me peace of mind."
Su Li was genuinely grateful to White Pete. "Master White, you're practically my mentor. You've really helped me out a ton."
Just as Su Li finished, Belle rushed in from outside and said, "Chancellor Su, something's wrong with Mrs. Penny! Lots of people saw Sean Hayes carrying her anxiously toward the Lin Family Courtyard—she's unconscious and bleeding!"
Mrs. Penny was Su Li's most trusted confidante. The moment Su Li heard something had happened, her face changed instantly and she shot to her feet.
White Pete, ever tactful, said, "Chancellor Su has urgent business, so Lily and I won't disturb you. We'll head back and keep watch—if any more spies are caught, we'll make masks right away."
"Alright, thank you, Master White. I'll head out first." Su Li said, then hurried after Belle toward the Lin Family Courtyard.
On the way, Su Li couldn't help but wonder—Mrs. Penny was fine just moments ago, so how did she end up unconscious and bleeding? Sean Hayes looked frantic; something serious must've happened.
As Princess Jade Hayes hurried along, a sudden buzz shot through her mind—she remembered something important.
Just now, Zhao Nian had come with Lola to propose marriage. Princess Jade Hayes had agreed and sent them off to find Mrs. Penny.
Thinking it through, Mrs. Penny’s accident must’ve happened right after Lola and Zhao Nian went looking for her!
Could this have something to do with Lola and Zhao Nian?
Princess Jade Hayes’s expression grew serious. She couldn’t be sure—after all, Lola was Mrs. Penny’s apprentice, and they had no deep grudges. Lola wouldn’t harm Mrs. Penny.
A flood of guesses swirled in Princess Jade Hayes’s mind. Before she knew it, she’d already reached the Lin Family Courtyard with Belle.
Inside the Lin Family Courtyard, Sean Hayes stood there, dazed and lost, muttering to himself, “How could she have fallen… She’s so skilled, how could she fall… The baby’s gone, the baby’s gone…”
“Sean, what do you mean the baby’s gone!?” Princess Jade Hayes’s brows knitted tight as she shook Sean Hayes hard.
Sean seemed to be in a trance, his eyes empty. He stared at Princess Jade Hayes for a long moment before finally recognizing her.
Suddenly, Sean clutched his head in agony, tears choking his voice. “My baby’s gone… Mrs. Penny fell and hit her stomach. She lost the child—over a month along… She’s still unconscious, and Dr. Lin is inside trying to save her.”
