Chapter 907: Trap

Wagner wore a look of intense vigilance, gritting his teeth, already channeling his magic and thinking about how to escape.

Hubert silently appeared at Wagner's side, casually crushing the magic shield Wagner had raised, then grabbed Wagner by the neck and tossed him into the Spider Alchemical Golem's guard zone.

"You damned fool, Archmage Leon is speaking to you, and you dare defy him? If not for Archmage Leon's mercy, I'd have crushed your neck long ago..."

Hubert hefted Slaughter, his expression fierce as he threatened Wagner.

Wagner landed on the ground in utter despair, and without thinking, tried to run back.

No sooner had he run out of the Spider Alchemical Golem's guard zone than Hubert kicked him right back in.

After three rounds of this, Leon finally spoke.

"Idiot."

Wagner was so panicked he was on the verge of tears.

The Spider Alchemical Golem isn't damaged—its commands are caught in a deadlock. If anyone attacks it, the deadlock will break, and even Wagner will become its target.

Leon glanced at Wagner, who was sitting on the ground, and sneered.

You can go ahead and touch this big guy, but once it wakes up, you'll be the first one it kills. Try it if you don't believe me.

At those words, Wagner's face turned even paler—he'd actually considered doing just that.

He knew the Spider Alchemical Golem wouldn't attack him, so he wanted to see if he could revive it and use it for himself.

A Sky Rank Alchemical Golem is so much stronger than any legion we've faced before...

But after hearing Leon's words, Wagner quickly shook his head and gave up any thought of trying.

The group crossed the Spider Alchemical Golem's defensive line and finally entered the heart of the underground base.

Unlike the vast space before, this was a typical underground base—narrow entrance, winding corridors, and rooms lining both sides.

Surprisingly, after entering the real base, not a single Alchemical Golem was seen—there were no obstacles at all.

After walking several hundred meters, hundreds of spikes suddenly emerged from the smooth walls, covering a dozen meters and trapping Leon's group. The front and rear spikes shot out first, followed by those in the middle.

Leon's expression shifted; he hadn't sensed any traps or mechanisms at all.

But there was no time to think. In an instant, Leon uttered several notes, brown runes swirling around the group and forming a circular earthen prison.

Ding ding ding...

A series of sharp clangs rang out as hundreds of spikes slammed into the earthen prison. The spikes glowed with anti-magic runes, and the sturdy prison was instantly pierced halfway through—about to break and stab into Leon's group.

A massive wheel-shaped phantom appeared behind Leon, unleashing endless runes. Some runes strengthened the earthen prison, while others attached to the metal spikes.

As the runes merged with the metal spikes, the anti-magic runes on them dissolved like ink.

Without anti-magic power, the spikes could no longer pierce the earthen prison.

With the danger past, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Wagner's face was deathly pale, full of regret. If he'd known, he would never have come—not to the Radiance Fortress, not anywhere near it.

Damn it, what the hell is going on?

Anderson stared at Leon in shock—Leon actually fell into a trap, which was unbelievable.

Anderson could understand others, but Leon Merlin? After so long, whether in ruins or aboard the Fearless, he'd never fallen into a trap, let alone nearly been killed by one.

Leon frowned, sending out countless runes from the wheel-shaped phantom behind him. Outside the earthen prison, the spikes were covered in fire runes, turning red-hot and slowly melting.

After confirming all the spikes outside had melted, Leon finally dispersed the earthen prison.

A layer of solidified molten iron coated the floor, and the walls turned silver-white—remnants of the melted metal spikes.

Leon examined the walls, his magical array constantly running, analyzing the recent events.

In the end, he concluded that they hadn't triggered a trap—there were no detection spells or mechanisms here.

The sudden appearance of the spikes couldn't have been caused by someone triggering a trap. Most likely, the traps here suddenly malfunctioned.

But even Leon didn't believe this conclusion—there must be some unknown trigger method.

After all, the front had rock golems scouting ahead!

Unable to discover the trigger method, Leon's expression grew more serious.

After all, this was a relic left by Bill George—a peak Sky Rank mage with unmatched skill in alchemical golems. It was normal for him to have undetectable tricks.

Leon deduced every method he knew, but none matched what had just happened.

Bill George was powerful, but he couldn't surpass Northend's peak era!

Leon shook his head, unable to figure it out.
