A Staggering Quantity
Lily Evans gave a mysterious wink and teased, "White Pete, this is the top secret of the Kingdom of Qin. If I tell you, you won't be able to leave."
White Pete laughed heartily. "Chancellor Lily, you have shown us father and daughter such great kindness. Even if you asked me to walk through fire, I'd do it without hesitation!"
Lily Evans chuckled. "White Pete, you're too serious! How could I possibly ask you to do anything so dangerous? I just need you to stay and help me make disguise masks."
"Huh? Didn't I already teach you everything about making disguise masks?" White Pete was puzzled. Making masks was a small matter—Lily Evans could do it herself. Why go to such trouble to call him back?
Lily Evans's skills now were every bit as good as White Pete's!
Lily Evans grinned. "It's just that there are so many masks to make—I can't handle it alone, so I had to ask you to come back and help..."
"Oh...?" White Pete looked at Lily Evans's smile and had a feeling nothing good was about to happen.
Lily Evans quickly explained her plan to White Pete. After hearing it, he was completely stunned.
But it wasn't Lily Evans's cleverness that shocked him—it was the sheer number of disguise masks needed.
"Wha—Jin and Chu have sent at least a thousand spies to Qin? That means we need to make a thousand disguise masks?" White Pete gasped, suddenly realizing why Lily Evans needed him back.
The number of masks needed wasn't just a lot—it was staggering!
And they needed to be made continuously—today they'd catch spies, and by tomorrow, the masks had to be ready.
It truly was no easy task!
White Pete deliberately pulled a long face. "Lily Evans, you brought me back just to be a laborer? Is it too late for me to regret it now?"
Lily Evans grinned mischievously. "If you want to regret it, go ahead. But since you already know Qin's top secret and refuse to help, I guess I'll have to silence you for good!"
As she spoke, Lily Evans made a playful throat-slitting gesture, making both White Pete and Sean Hayes laugh so hard they nearly cried.
White Pete coughed lightly. "Alright, no more jokes. This task may be tough, but for Lily Evans's sake, I'll take it! Oh, and my daughter, White Lily, has learned the art of disguise from me—she can help too. She's young, so I won't tell her the whole plan, just have her help with the masks and remind her not to talk to anyone about it. White Lily is very obedient and discreet, Lily Evans, you can trust her."
When White Pete mentioned his daughter, his affection was obvious.
White Pete was reliable, and when White Lily lived at the Palace of Qin before, it was clear she was a well-behaved young lady.
Lily Evans nodded. "Good, I trust both of you. We'll do it your way. Sean Hayes, please arrange accommodations for White Pete and White Lily at the Palace of Qin. Once White Pete has rested, invite him to help me with the masks."
Sean Hayes immediately agreed, and the matter was settled.
The next day, White Pete and White Lily arrived at the Palace of Qin, ready to help Lily Evans with the disguise masks.
With everyone working together, the daunting task suddenly seemed a little less impossible.
Lily Evans smiled, confident that with this team, Qin’s secrets would remain safe.
