Miles Gu Regrets His Decision

1/4/2026

When Miles Gu arrived, Yina Yin was busy checking the tableware and kitchenware needed for the banquet in two days.

"It's what we should do." Leo Mo leaned in and lowered his voice. "Have you noticed Miles Gu's mood has been off these past couple of days?"

Standing at the door, Miles Gu only grew more regretful and heartbroken the longer he thought.

Unable to hold back, Miles Gu blurted out, "Yina Yin, can we talk?"

Yina Yin turned to look at him, her eyes dim, but she quickly masked it and asked, "Is there something you need?"

"Yes, can we talk?" Miles Gu didn’t even realize his voice had become soft and pleading.

With each delivery, Yina Yin only needed a glance to know if everything matched the order.

"Choose the 'Misty Rain' series for the blue-and-white porcelain, the 'Bixi' series for the bone china, and swap out the Italian set for one with less brightness. The count on the blue-and-white teacups is off—fix it ASAP. Also, there will be some important guests at the banquet; they shouldn't use the Qing Dynasty cups. Switch them to Ming Dynasty porcelain. My parents and Earl Field get Yuan Dynasty blue-and-white. And get the old house to send this year's new tea—what Yun Shuang brought isn't suitable for the occasion. Plus, tell Cherry Miller to prepare the ladies’ usual flower teas…" Yina Yin ordered quickly and decisively.

Yina Yin nodded and told the staff, "You all keep working. If anything comes up, we’ll talk later."

After giving instructions, Yina Yin said, "The villa’s a mess right now, and there’s nowhere quiet to talk. Let’s walk outside."

"Okay." Miles Gu followed right behind her, not an ounce of pride left in him.

He stood at the door, dazed, watching Yina Yin coordinate the kitchen.

Miles Gu: "..."

She clearly knows everything—she just usually lets Cherry Miller handle it out of laziness.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" Yina Yin casually picked a bunch of grapes, rinsed them with nearby water, and ate as she walked.

Seeing Yina Yin so at ease, Miles Gu realized she wasn’t upset about the breakup at all—and it made him feel even more unsettled.

The two were whispering when Miles Gu walked over from a distance.

Why didn’t Yina Yin care at all?

But Miles Gu didn’t dare say it out loud.

"Yina Yin, I regret it," Miles Gu said softly.

"Hmm?" Yina Yin glanced back at Miles Gu, her lips twitching slightly.

"Oh, I just saw Yina heading to check on the main kitchen. Sorry, things are busy today—everyone here has a job, even Yina. And since this is her breakup party, who else would oversee it?" Cherry said confidently.

Even with Cherry Miller helping manage the assets, if the boss is clueless, no assistant can save them from disaster.

Who cares!

"Yina Yin, let’s… let’s not break up," Miles Gu blurted out.

"Too late." Yina Yin lowered her gaze. "If you’d said this a few days ago—before the invitations went out, before you defended Elisa Field against me—maybe it could’ve worked. Now all the important guests are already on their way. This engagement isn’t something you can just end or keep on a whim. Miles Gu, you may be the second persona, but you’re still part of Miles Gu. So, can you stop being so childish? We’re not kids anymore. Everything we do has consequences, and we don’t get to act on impulse."

"I..."

The main kitchen handles big banquets, like the one for this event.

Yina Yin looked up at Miles Gu, her face serene, as if she truly felt no pain at all.

But who could know how much pain Yina Yin was holding back as she spoke?

She couldn’t let Cherry Miller worry, couldn’t let her parents worry, couldn’t let her friends worry.

"Miss Yina, these are the new dishes that just arrived. Please take a look—they're the latest cloisonné series from Jingdezhen."

"Miss Yina, here’s the Huaguang bone china that just came in. Please check."

Miles Gu looked at Yina Yin, feeling completely lost. "After the breakup, I’ll pursue you again!"

"I refuse," Yina Yin said bluntly. "The one I love has always been the primary persona, not you. Even if you replace him, I’ll never love you."

"I am Miles Gu—Miles Gu is me! If you could love the primary persona, why not me? Am I not better than Gavin Gao?" Miles Gu protested.

Yina Yin smiled. "No. And you don’t have to worry about Gavin Gao. At the breakup party, there’ll be plenty of eligible bachelors brought by their parents for my mom and dad to choose from. Who knows, maybe I’ll have a new fiancé by the end of the night."

Yina gave out orders smoothly and efficiently.

The staff carried them out one by one.

That was when Miles Gu walked in.

He stood at the door, dazed, watching Yina coordinate the kitchen.

Who says the Yin family's heiress is clueless and only knows how to give orders?

She clearly knows everything—she just usually lets Cherry Miller handle it out of laziness.

Miles gave a bitter smile in his heart.

Yeah.

He’d been too narrow-minded.

The Yun family has only two daughters—Gu Xixi and Yun Morong. The Yin family has just one direct heir, Yin Sichen.

Whether it’s the cultured Yun family or the powerful Yin family, their children could never be mediocre.

Everyone’s been fooled by Yina’s appearance.

She’s not just talented—she’s brave, meticulous, sharp-eyed, quick-witted, and always clear-headed.

If she wasn’t, why would the Yin family put so many shares of the Yin Consortium in her name?

Even with Cherry Miller helping manage the assets, if the boss is clueless, no assistant can save them from disaster.

Yina is far more outstanding than anyone realizes.

And yet, he’d let go of such an incredible girl so easily.

Miles’s regret had reached its peak.

If he hadn’t asked for the breakup, Yina would still be his—all of her.

If there hadn’t been a breakup, he’d have full support from both the Field family and the Yin family!

If there hadn’t been a breakup, Gavin Gao wouldn’t stand a chance!

How foolish!

The primary persona had set him up with a perfect future, and he’d ruined it himself!

Standing at the door, Miles only grew more regretful and heartbroken the longer he thought.

Unable to hold back, Miles blurted out, "Yina, can we talk?"

Yina turned to look at him, her eyes dim, but she quickly masked it and asked, "Is there something you need?"

"Yes, can we talk?" Miles didn’t even realize his voice had become soft and pleading.

Has it really only been a few days?

And he’s already this desperate?

Yina nodded and told the staff, "You all keep working. If anything comes up, we’ll talk later."

After giving instructions, Yina said, "The villa’s a mess right now, and there’s nowhere quiet to talk. Let’s walk outside."

"Okay." Miles followed right behind her, not an ounce of pride left in him.

It was the season when the fields were lush and green.

Besides the crops needed by the Danni Company, there were plenty of grains and fruits growing too.

Walking along, everything felt so solid and real.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" Yina casually picked a bunch of grapes, rinsed them with nearby water, and ate as she walked.

Seeing Yina so at ease, Miles realized she wasn’t upset about the breakup at all—and it made him feel even more unsettled.

Why was he the only one who couldn’t let go?

Why didn’t Yina care at all?

But Miles didn’t dare say it out loud.

"Yina, I regret it," Miles said softly.

"Hmm?" Yina glanced back at Miles, her lips twitching slightly.

Regret?

Ha.

Who cares!

"Yina, let’s… let’s not break up," Miles blurted out.

"Too late." Yina lowered her gaze. "If you’d said this a few days ago—before the invitations went out, before you defended Elisa Field against me—maybe it could’ve worked. "I..."

"My brother’s right. As heirs, we get more resources than anyone else, but we also pay a price. Others can make a mistake and be forgiven, but we don’t get that luxury. One mistake, and it’s all over." Yina tossed the grape stems into the trash and said calmly, "Besides, I don’t think breaking off the engagement is a mistake. You’re a man—take responsibility. You chose Elisa Field, so treat her well. Don’t let another woman down."

Yina looked up at Miles, her face serene, as if she truly felt no pain at all.

But who could know how much pain she was holding back as she spoke?

She couldn’t let Cherry Miller worry, couldn’t let her parents worry, couldn’t let her friends worry.

Most of all, she couldn’t let outsiders see her as a joke.

She represents the Yin Consortium—she can’t lose face.

Miles looked at Yina, feeling completely lost. "After the breakup, I’ll pursue you again!"

"I refuse," Yina said bluntly. "The one I love has always been the primary persona, not you. Even if you replace him, I’ll never love you."
