Wendy, Mia, and Coco Shen quickly stood at attention, doing their best to stand straight like everyone else.
At least all three of them had been to college and gone through military training.
They might not be perfectly standard, but they definitely weren’t sloppy.
Owl saw this and couldn’t help but smile. She said, "No need to be nervous. Just ignore the others’ training. But let me remind you: aside from the areas you’re allowed to move in, don’t go anywhere else. Bullets don’t have eyes."
Wendy and the others nodded quickly.
They weren’t stupid.
It was obvious to them what kind of place this was.
Plus, none of them had been spoiled growing up, and they never expected others to cater to them. So now that they were on someone else’s turf, of course they’d follow the rules.
Owl’s warning was for their own good.
If they didn’t know how to behave, they’d be asking for trouble.
Once everything was settled, Alex left.
Wendy, Mia, and Coco sat down in their dorm and started discussing how they’d arrange their lives for the next while.
None of them were the petty type, so everything was settled quickly.
Once they’d settled in, it was time for dinner.
According to the camp rules, their three meals a day were with everyone else.
Each of them got a meal card. When it was time to eat, all they needed to do was swipe it.
As for the food—whatever everyone else ate, they ate. No special treatment.
But when they realized even a casual meal here was nutritious and plentiful, all their worries vanished.
Honestly, the standard of living was just too high.
The camp’s dining area wasn’t big—maybe enough for just about a hundred people.
At first, Wendy and the others were puzzled.
How could so many people eat in such a small space?
But when they actually went to the dining hall, they realized it worked. People really could eat here.
That’s because everyone came and went so quickly—nobody spent more than ten minutes eating.
Most people wolfed down their food and dashed off.
It was like someone was chasing them.
With people constantly coming and going, the dining hall ran super efficiently.
Wendy, Mia, and Coco were startled and unconsciously sped up their own eating.
Even so, during one meal, they saw four waves of people come in, eat, and leave.
After eating their fill, each of them grabbed some fruit for dessert and headed back to the dorm.
Huddled in their dorm, they looked out at the lights still blazing outside and couldn’t help but sigh—no matter what you do, life’s never easy.
Mia nudged Wendy’s arm and asked, "What do you think this base is for, anyway?"
"Isn’t it obvious?" Coco rolled her eyes at Mia. "It’s a place to train bodyguards. Yin Enterprises is huge—of course people envy them. If they couldn’t protect their own family, how would they have survived this long? And that Owl, the one in charge of our safety, you can sense how intense her aura is, right?"
Wendy munched on a cherry tomato and nodded. "Seriously, the first time I met her, I was so scared I shivered."
Mia leaned in and whispered, "I heard some gossip."
Mia moved closer to the other two and lowered her voice. "I heard our CEO went through life-and-death situations back in the day. Something happened in his family, and he did a lot of things no one talks about. Henry Shaw, the former chief assistant, went through all that with him. That’s why Henry’s so respected in the Yin family now."
"Where’d you hear that?" Coco asked.
"Didn’t you guys look for info before applying for this job?" Mia shot back.
Wendy and Coco, who’d never thought to dig up gossip before, were speechless: "..."
"Honestly, I never thought we’d end up as Mrs. Charles Yin’s assistants. I thought we’d be working for some manager. Oh, and I heard that three years ago, Mrs. Yin lost her memory and left home because of something that happened. But our CEO is loyal—he never forgot her. Looks like we’re here for special training to welcome Mrs. Yin back."
"Hey Mia, where’d you hear all this?" Coco couldn’t help asking.
"People at the market talk about it all the time," Mia said matter-of-factly. "You know, the market’s a gossip hub! Our market in East City is the biggest vegetable wholesale market in N City, and several vendors supply the Yin family. It’s not even a secret—just ask around and you’ll hear it!"
Wendy joked, "No way I’m messing with you, Know-It-All of East City Market. I bow to your wisdom."
Coco couldn’t help but laugh: "Pfft!"
Mia rolled her eyes at Wendy. "You’re such a clown. If you’re Wendy, then I’m the Crown Prince!"
"But my last name is Wang."
"Fine, fine, you win. Coco, don’t tell me you don’t gossip either?"
Coco tried not to laugh. "I’ve heard a bit about Mrs. Charles Yin, but you know way more than I do."
Mia looked super proud. "Alright, I’ll share any news I hear from now on, so you two won’t be clueless. It’s embarrassing not to know anything."
"Thanks in advance, Know-It-All," Wendy and Coco teased, squeezing Mia between them.
The room was instantly filled with cheerful laughter from the three girls.
Outside, Owl heard their bright laughter and couldn’t help shaking her head. She said to the tall Henry Shaw beside her, "Girls with no worries—how nice."
Henry Shaw smiled. "You’re not that old yourself."
"But I haven’t felt that carefree in ages." Owl changed the subject: "How’s Mrs. Charles Yin doing?"

"Charles is sticking to her like glue. Don’t worry, it won’t be long now. Things are starting to come together, and this grudge won’t be forgotten. Oh, and keep an eye on those three girls. Besides the assistant training, make sure they learn basic shooting, tracking, and counter-tracking skills. Once Mrs. Charles Yin comes back, they’ll be her last line of defense." Henry said calmly.
Owl glanced at Henry, wanting to say something, but in the end, she kept quiet.
This was Henry’s personal matter.
Even as a friend, she couldn’t pry.
"Got it," Owl nodded. "Don’t worry."
Owl didn’t give Wendy, Mia, and Coco much time to rest.
The very next day, she took them out for a run—ten laps, light gear, no excuses!
Wendy, Mia, and Coco gritted their teeth and pushed through. Just when they thought they were done, they were whisked off to study theory.
Academic and physical training alternated.
After three whole months, these delicate girls were turned into tough women.
They couldn’t wield guns or fight like the others yet, but they could follow orders and react quickly to emergencies.
Three months felt both long and short.
They learned to eat fast, execute commands quickly, and read each other’s body language and expressions. Their teamwork was seamless.
Owl personally oversaw their graduation exam.
Seeing the girls ready to stand on their own, Owl nodded. "I’m still not totally satisfied with your scores, but you’re presentable now. Technically, you’re just supposed to be lifestyle assistants for a leader—none of this should be necessary. But you’re serving someone special, so you have to learn more than others. Only by being truly versatile can you last till the end."
Wendy, Mia, and Coco’s once-fair faces were now a healthy tan.
Their mental state was totally different too—they weren’t the naive girls they used to be.
"Yes!" the three answered in unison.
"Good." Owl smiled. "You’ll soon be sent to serve Cecilia Gu. Remember, you’re responsible for one person only—Cecilia. No matter what anyone else says, never forget your place and your duty."
"Yes!"
Owl checked her watch. "You have half an hour to pack. In thirty minutes, a car will pick you up at the camp gate."
With that, Owl turned to leave.
"Instructor!" Mia called out suddenly. "Will we ever see you again?"
Owl smiled. "If things get to the point where you need me, it’ll be serious. I hope you never have to see me out there."
With those words, Owl walked away.
Coco patted Mia on the shoulder. "Let’s go—we only have half an hour."
The three girls quickly packed up and arrived at the camp gate just in time.
Sure enough, an inconspicuous off-road vehicle showed up.
None of them asked who the driver was or where they were going.
They stowed their luggage and got in.
The first thing they learned in three months was to keep quiet.
After a steady drive, the vehicle stopped at their destination.
They got out and switched to another car, heading off again.
This time, they were dropped off at a small villa, where Assistant A was already waiting.
"Assistant A," Wendy, Mia, and Coco greeted in unison. "We’re back."
"Good. Follow me—I’ll take you to meet the person you’ll be serving." Assistant A smiled, nodded, and led the way inside.
Wendy carried her luggage in. As soon as they entered, they saw a woman in a white linen dress, her long hair casually pinned up with a peachwood hairpin, bending over to trim a beautiful camellia.
