Apology, No Longer the Old Serena Feng

2/14/2026

Serena had run every test she could think of—except for the basics like bathroom breaks, she’d checked everything. She’d spent an entire day and night on William Wang Jinling, but found nothing, not a single clue. The Smart Med-Pack’s results were clear: William’s body was normal. Every scan and test came back ‘within range.’

But if he’s normal, why is he still in a coma? Why is his breathing getting weaker?

Serena was about to lose her mind over William’s baffling condition. If not for the IV drip keeping him alive, she’d probably have gone crazy by now.

She’d worked through a full day and night. No matter how strong her willpower was, even Serena couldn’t hold out forever—not that she was about to collapse from fatigue, but she was starving. She hadn’t eaten a single thing all day.

After slowing William’s IV drip, Serena tidied up and got ready to leave for a quick meal. If she couldn’t cure William, she’d at least avoid letting herself get sick first.

Before heading out, Serena deliberately called in her shadow guard maids, instructing them to keep watch over William. Once the IV bottle was nearly empty, they were to fetch her immediately. If his breathing became unstable—or if he woke up—they were to find her without delay.

“Yes, Miss Feng.” The shadow guard maids, whether from obedience or genuine concern, left one to stand watch over William, while another stayed close to protect Serena.

“Miss Feng, what’s happened to my young master?” William Wang Jinling’s personal servant rushed up as soon as he saw Serena, panic written all over his face. He was frantic, but not exactly warm.

There wasn’t a single family member by William’s side—just this servant. It was almost pitiful, but Serena didn’t need to worry about that. He wasn’t a relative, so she didn’t bother with details. She just said, “He’s not doing well. He’s still unconscious.”

The real problem is, I can’t find the cause. Serena didn’t say this out loud—she just let out a long sigh.

The servant’s face fell instantly. He stood shivering in the cold wind, blurting out, “How could this happen? How could this happen? My young master was perfectly fine—he ate dinner with Old Master just last night, spoke with Madam, and now all of a sudden he’s like this?”

He was worried about William, but it wasn’t the concern of a family member—just a servant afraid for his own skin. If William died, he’d be in trouble too.

By now, the servant was already regretting bringing his young master to Feng Manor. If William died here, he’d be doomed as well.

Should I notify the Wang clan? Should I ask them to send for an imperial physician, or have someone come to pressure Miss Feng?

He was so flustered he couldn’t think straight. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to run back and fetch someone from the Wang clan—otherwise, if something happened to William here, his whole family would be dragged down too.

Serena had planned to question him for useful information, but looking at the servant now, she doubted she’d get much out of him. It was obvious what he was thinking.

Though he listened, this servant wasn’t truly loyal. Serena couldn’t understand why William would trust someone like this to bring him to Feng Manor. Wasn’t he worried about trouble? With William’s current state, it’d be far too easy for someone to finish him off.

At least William was in her care now. No matter what happened, Serena would protect him. If he went back to the Wang clan in this condition, it’d be a death sentence. She hadn’t forgotten what he said about being poisoned in the carriage—or the carriage incident itself.

Someone in the Wang clan wanted William dead. There was no way she’d let this servant run off and spread the news.

Before leaving, Serena shot a look at her guards, silently telling them to keep an eye on the servant. If necessary, they could take action. Until William woke up, that man wasn’t leaving Feng Manor.
