Trouble Strikes

12/2/2025

Lily Evans swung her stick and drove May Parker out, then heard Mark Hunter's anxious voice calling for Cynthia Wu behind her.

Lily turned around and saw Cynthia Wu's eyes tightly shut, with blood beneath her!

Lily's mind buzzed—could Cynthia Wu have lost her baby!?

May Parker also saw the blood on Cynthia Wu and cursed as she ran, "Just as I thought, you shameless thing! Just a few words and you break down like this!"

Lily Evans bit her lip so hard it bled, swung her stick in a wide arc, and struck May Parker squarely on the backside, knocking her to the ground.

"Help! Lily Evans, you're helping that wretch Cynthia Wu kill me! You're no good either!" May Parker shrieked from the ground.

Lily Evans grabbed May Parker by the collar, her eyes cold enough to kill. "May Parker, everyone in the village knows exactly what kind of person you are! Let me make this clear—pray to the gods that Cynthia Wu and her child are safe. If she loses her baby, I swear you'll never have children in your life!"

"You venomous woman! That stick—it's for my unborn godson!" Lily Evans jabbed May Parker hard in the stomach, making her black out from pain.

Meanwhile, Mark Hunter was already carrying Cynthia Wu into the house. Cynthia, drenched in cold sweat, gripped Mark's hand tightly, half-conscious and mumbling, "Mark, don't believe her. My heart belongs to you. I only want to spend my life with you!"

Mark Hunter, usually as tough as iron, couldn't stop his tears. He kept repeating, "Caiwei, I trust you. I never doubted you. You have to stay strong—nothing must happen to you! If anything does, I'll finish May Parker myself before following you and our child!"

Dr. Wu was sweating with anxiety, quickly taking his daughter's pulse and prepping needles.

Lily Evans rushed into the house, helping save Cynthia Wu under Dr. Wu's direction. Then she hurried to fetch medicine and help Dr. Wu prepare it.

"Uncle Wu, will Caiwei and the baby be okay?" Lily asked, fanning the fire and brewing medicine at the same time.

Dr. Wu wiped away tears and shook his head. "It's up to fate now. That damned May Parker—she's trying to kill my daughter!"

Lily bowed her head, watching the flames, silently praying that Cynthia Wu and her child would be safe.

Inside the house, Cynthia Wu lay unconscious. Lily Evans had just finished brewing the medicine and brought it in. Mark Hunter anxiously took it from her, and together, they gently coaxed Cynthia's mouth open and carefully poured the medicine in.

"Mark, Cynthia is blessed. She'll pull through, I just know it," Lily said softly, trying to reassure him.

Mark Hunter's calloused fingers gently stroked Cynthia Wu's hair. "Cynthia, you have to hang in there. Why are you so stubborn? We've known each other for so long—did you really think I didn't notice your feelings for Liu Hui back then? I saw you give him that medicine pouch at the pharmacy. But everyone has a past, everyone makes mistakes when they're young. You cared about him once, but that's long gone. Later, you gave your heart to me. I'm not the jealous type, I never minded your past, so why can't you let it go now?"

Mark bent down, his cheek gently resting against Cynthia's. "My silly wife, you're carrying our child. You have to be strong for us—don't let those small-minded people get their way."

Standing nearby, Lily couldn't hold back her tears. Just moments ago, she and Cynthia had been chatting and laughing; Cynthia had even shown her the little bellyband she embroidered for the baby. How did things change so suddenly?

"Mark, if you need help, just let me know. My family's big—Bai Lu, Gu Yu, my mom and I can all take turns helping care for Cynthia," Lily offered, remembering Dr. Wu's warning that Cynthia might be unconscious for days and worrying Mark couldn't manage alone.

Mark never took his eyes off Cynthia Wu. "Thank you, Lily. Cynthia is my wife, and I want to look after her myself. When she wakes up, I want her to see me first."
