Skyfiends

"Village Chief was dragged into the vortex by that demon—could he..."

A bad feeling crept into Quinn's heart. He glanced back—he was very close to the Nether City gate now, and the fog hadn't swallowed it yet. If the mist kept rising, he'd lose all track of the gate.

"Village Chief is so powerful—he'll be fine! I need to get out of here first. I can't be his burden!"

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Gray mist billowed, footsteps in the fog coming from every direction—behind him, at his sides, and blocking his path to the Nether City gate.

Quinn steadied himself and dashed for the Nether City gate. He sprinted at full speed, drawing closer to the towering gate—when suddenly, a guttural roar erupted ahead, and a black shadow charged out of the mist.

Without hesitation, Quinn thrust out his sword-finger. The Grand Guardian’s Sword leapt from the fish-dragon on his back, slicing through the gray mist and piercing the black shadow like lightning!

Whoosh—

A gale howled as the Grand Guardian’s Sword carried the black shadow backward, then—smack!—the shadow crashed into a stone pillar and was nailed there, dead.

Quinn surged forward, passing the stone pillar. With a flick of his sword-finger, the Grand Guardian’s Sword flew back and was swallowed by the fish-dragon on his back.

The corpse of the black shadow tumbled down—a grotesque, vicious figure covered in fish scales, with webbed hands and feet like a frog.

Even after death, the creature’s yuanqi still coiled around it like blood-soaked serpents. The stench was nauseating; Quinn felt dizzy and staggered—clearly, this was a poisonous divine ability!

Just then, the dragon-blood god-image Deaf had painted on his skin began to heat up, burning away the poison almost instantly.

"A divine ability user? I actually killed a divine ability user?"

Quinn froze for a moment, then recalled that when he channeled his yuanqi to control the sword, Mute Smith’s furnace in his chest had flared, boosting his qi a hundredfold!

It was exactly Mute Smith’s furnace that had sent his yuanqi soaring, giving him enough power to kill a divine ability user with a single sword strike!

Even better, the furnace only ramped up his yuanqi when he actively used it; once Quinn stopped channeling qi, his cultivation returned to normal. That way, his body wasn’t overburdened.

It was like a tank that could only hold three buckets of water—if you poured in ten, seven would overflow. But the human body isn’t a tank; if you overfill it, you’d burst and die.

Mute Smith’s furnace worked by lending Quinn a hundredfold yuanqi, which returned to the furnace when not in use, leaving his body unaffected.

Quinn sprinted forward, mind racing: "So with my current cultivation, I can unleash true divine abilities? That means I might actually stand a chance against the Skyfiends."
