I Don't Believe It
Mrs. Penny's face showed a hint of compassion. She pulled Princess Jade Hayes aside and shielded her eyes with one hand, saying, "Your Majesty, Charlie is fine. We're not hurting him. But right now, it's best if you don't look..."
Hearing her son's painful whimpers beside her, Princess Jade Hayes felt as if her heart was being scorched by fire—agony and despair tore through her as she screamed, "Let my son go! Don't hurt him! Whatever you want, I'll give it to you! I'll agree to any condition! Mrs. Penny, for the sake of our past friendship, please spare Charlie!"
Princess Jade Hayes shouted until her voice broke. Mrs. Charlotte Evans stared in shock at the scene before her, then quietly crawled away to seek help.
"Aunt Charlotte, you have to find help quickly!" Princess Jade Hayes pinned her last hope on Mrs. Charlotte Evans.
Princess Jade Hayes continued to struggle in despair, but against Mrs. Penny's superior martial skills, her resistance was futile.
Mrs. Penny dragged Princess Jade Hayes out into the next room, forced her into a chair, and restrained her from behind. "Your Majesty, we're truly not hurting Charlie," she said firmly.
Princess Jade Hayes glared at Mrs. Penny with bloodshot eyes. "Liar! Charlie's been stabbed with needles all over, and you still say you're not hurting him? Mrs. Penny, who is your real master? What did they give you to make you betray me like this?"
"Your Majesty, I have never betrayed you. My loyalty has always been to you, and I swear I haven't harmed Charlie." Mrs. Penny sighed deeply, her eyes brimming with tears. "Since you've already discovered it... I might as well tell you. That wet nurse isn't just any nurse—she's a physician. She's performing acupuncture on Charlie to treat his leg condition..."
"I don't believe you! You're making this up!" Princess Jade Hayes struggled, blood continuing to drip from her mouth and staining her clothes. She pleaded with Mrs. Penny, "Mrs. Penny, I'm begging you, let Charlie go. He's just a child! How could you bear it? You always liked Charlie, and he adored you—how could you do this to him?"
"Your Majesty, I'm not lying to you." Mrs. Penny shook her head, her gaze dim. "That nurse comes from the Lin family and was trained by Medical Sage Lin. The golden needles she used—don't they look familiar? They were given to her by Medical Sage Lin himself..."
"Father... How could Father arrange for a physician to be Charlie's nurse? How could he harm my son!?" Princess Jade Hayes shook her head in utter despair. "I don't believe it! I don't believe it!"
Mrs. Penny gently explained, "Your Majesty, Charlie's leg condition was detected at birth, so a skilled medical woman was assigned to care for him. We kept it secret to avoid worrying you. Please, don't interfere with the acupuncture, or you might hurt Charlie." She held Princess Jade Hayes firmly to prevent her from disrupting the treatment.
Princess Jade Hayes slumped to the floor, her voice hoarse and trembling. "No! There's no way Charlie is sick! And Father would never keep this from me!"
Just then, Princess Jade Hayes saw Mrs. Charlotte Evans rush back into the room, breathless and anxious, with Simon Yu following closely behind.
Mrs. Charlotte Evans hurriedly explained, "I ran into Simon Yu outside and brought him here to help."
Simon Yu stood quietly by the door, watching Mrs. Penny restrain Princess Jade Hayes, but for now, he did not step forward.
