“What does Your Highness think of the Azure Crown Prince?” Lady Sapphire’s voice drifted over, soft and gentle.
By chance, Prince Ethan and Lady Sapphire hadn’t chosen the brightly lit path, which made it easier for Morgan Shangguan to observe them. Prince Ethan was a cautious man; she didn’t dare to stare openly, so instead she watched Prince Damien’s smiling eyes, all the while keeping the corner of her gaze fixed on Prince Ethan and Lady Sapphire.
Meeting those eyes across from her, Morgan Shangguan couldn’t help but let a faint smile curl her lips. Why did it feel as though they were sneaking around like lovers?
There was a proper distance between Prince Ethan and Lady Sapphire, never crossing the line of decorum. Yet, every so often, Lady Sapphire would cast him a glance so heated it brimmed with unmistakable affection.
Suddenly, Prince Ethan stopped in his tracks and said, “I know well enough how to handle this matter, Lady Sapphire. There’s no need for you to worry. It’s getting late—you should head back now.”
Lady Sapphire bit her lip, her eyes full of reluctance. She had only come out for some fresh air and happened to run into Prince Ethan, which was why they’d walked this stretch together. But it was true—she should return. The Azure Crown Prince must have arrived by now; she needed to speak with the future Azure Crown Princess, then go to the banquet hall for the lively welcoming feast.
Lady Sapphire opened her mouth to say something, hesitated, then swallowed her words. In the end, she only said, “You should go ahead, Your Highness.”
Prince Ethan gazed at her deeply, then suddenly spoke, “Take good care of yourself.” His voice was soft and tender, like a lover’s whispered promise.
With those words, he turned and walked away without looking back. Lady Sapphire stared after his departing figure, her eyes reddening with emotion. She murmured, “No matter what happens, I’ll help you fulfill your wish.”
Morgan Shangguan’s lips curved in a subtle smile. Women were always so foolish! Just a few gentle words, a feigned tenderness, and they would throw themselves into fire and water for a man. Yet women could never see the expression on a man’s face after he turned away!
