City Defense Weapons

1/11/2026

In the past, whenever the Human Race fought against the Strongarm Bull Devils, achieving a one-to-one casualty ratio was already something to be proud of.

Now, even though we've lost 320,000 lives, the Strongarm Bull Devils have paid a price of 500,000 casualties. It's a defeat, but there's honor in it.

But this is only the beginning.

After driving back Fiona Li and the others’ 400,000-strong army, the Strongarm Bull Devils advanced straight toward Blood River City.

When Raymond Lei heard the news, his face grew dark and grim.

The war has only just begun, and we've already lost 320,000. How much longer can the remaining 1.2 million hold out?

Thinking of this, his frustration grew. “Someone, go and fetch William Nangong.”

Soon, William Nangong arrived.

“Commander.” William Nangong cupped his fists in greeting.

“Nangong, when will the military reinforcements arrive?” Raymond Lei asked directly.

William Nangong thought for a moment, then said, “In two days, 100,000 troops will arrive; in three days, another 50,000; in five days, 200,000 more; and finally, 150,000 should reach us within ten days!”

Raymond Lei’s face didn’t lighten at all. “Nangong, you know the situation in Blood River City. By the time those 500,000 arrive, the city may already have fallen. I need you to relay an urgent request to the Military Council: try to gather another million troops within three days, or there’s no hope of holding Blood River City.”

William Nangong nodded. “Alright, I’ll pass on your request to the Military Council. But whether they send more troops, I can’t say.”

“Thank you!” Raymond Lei said gratefully.

After sending William Nangong off, Raymond Lei rubbed his temples in pain. At most, there was one hour left before the Strongarm Bull Devils’ army reached the city gates. Blood River City had tall, thick walls, but under the Bull Devils’ fierce assault, he wasn’t sure it could hold.

One hour later.

Nearly two million Strongarm Bull Devil troops had already arrived outside Blood River City, packed so densely that the sight made the soldiers on the walls break out in cold sweat.

With a flicker, Ian Song appeared atop the city wall.

“Attack!”

The Bull Devil command flags surged, and nearly two million Strongarm Bull Devils roared as they charged toward Blood River City.

Half an hour later, he brought his written notes to the Commander’s Headquarters.

When Ian saw Raymond Lei, he was shocked. Raymond was a Martial Saint, but right now he looked completely exhausted.

"What do you want, kid?" Raymond Lei asked bluntly, not bothering with politeness.

"These are some city defense methods I just came up with. If you think they’ll work, give them a try!" Ian handed Raymond the notes he’d written in half an hour.

Raymond Lei opened the sheet and read it carefully, then slapped the table in delight.

Early the next morning, more than a thousand crude catapults had been set up on Blood River City’s walls. Next to each stood a large iron cauldron, its boiling, foul-smelling liquid steaming away, with wood blazing underneath.

A quarter of an hour later.

The Bull Devil army attacked again.

They came in endless waves, stretching as far as the eye could see.

Two thousand meters. One thousand meters. Eight hundred meters.

"Catapults ready!"

At the order, two soldiers loaded thousand-jin boulders onto each catapult.

"Fire!"

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

A thousand massive stones flew out at once, crashing into the ranks of the Bull Devil army.

In an instant, more than a thousand Bull Devils were crushed to death.

Seeing the catapults’ success, the human soldiers were fired up and kept loading stones.

"Fire again!"

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Another wave of stones shot out, killing over a thousand more Strongarm Bull Devils.

But after two volleys, the Bull Devils’ vanguard had already reached the base of the city wall, swinging their weapons and pounding away.

"Pour it!"

Nearly a thousand large iron cauldrons filled with boiling, foul liquid were hauled up to the wall by pairs of soldiers, who tipped the scalding contents down below.

"Aah! Aah!"

"Roar! Roar!"

The boiling, stinking liquid rained down from above, splashing over the Strongarm Bull Devils and making them scream in agony. Some were even killed instantly by the burns.

In an instant, nearly ten thousand Strongarm Bull Devils were injured.

Meanwhile, the catapults kept working—each volley took out over a thousand Bull Devils, far more effective than arrows.

Groups of civilian laborers appeared on the wall, dumping buckets of night soil into the iron cauldrons.

That’s right—the boiling, stinking liquid was just boiled human waste.

Human waste is the body’s excrement—once boiled, it causes severe burns, infection, and, most importantly, contains all sorts of toxins. If it gets into your mouth or nose, you’re guaranteed to be poisoned.

Half an hour later, some catapults started breaking down. After all, they were rushed together and not the best quality—lasting half an hour was already impressive.

Another half hour passed, and most of the catapults were out of commission.

So, another city defense weapon took the stage—rolling logs!

Before you knew it, evening had arrived. Thanks to these three city defense weapons, the Strongarm Bull Devils suffered even heavier losses—at least double compared to the day before.

When Raymond Lei heard the news, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Ian Song returned to the city wall again. Looking down at the black-robed Bull Devils collecting souls on the battlefield, he couldn’t help but wonder: "Could it be that the real purpose of the Bull Devils’ war is to harvest souls?"
