The Unique Cultivation of This World: Refining Spirit into Qi

12/7/2025

The golden profile flickered and vanished, swelling for just a moment before disappearing, as if unable to exist in that form for long. Yet in that instant, the two people separated by vast dimensions seemed to have their meridians and energies intertwined—like two unrelated images projected onto the same screen.

You’re in me, and I’m in you.

Suddenly, the Golden Blade King’s blade energy and the Bright Moon Skill’s energy, tangled together, trembled—as if a coyote and a viper locked in a standoff sensed a lion approaching. It was the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill! Although Yang Qi’s cultivation in her dantian was shallow, it pounced like an angry lion cub, crashing straight into the Golden Blade King’s blade energy.

Like two fighters colliding head-on, the blade energy instantly abandoned the Bright Moon Skill and started wrestling with the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill, locked in a fierce and endless struggle.

Buzz—golden light faded in an instant, and the profile shrank back to its original spot. The connection between the two worlds was severed as quickly as it appeared, each returning to their place. But the Golden Blade King’s blade energy didn’t go back—instead, it was dragged away by the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill! That’s right, after that brief overlap of worlds, the Golden Blade King’s blade energy transferred from The Fool’s meridians into Yang Qi’s!

According to Wu Zhengfeng’s theory, after breaking through the Sixty-Year Barrier, a martial artist completes the Small Heavenly Cycle—commonly known as opening the Ren and Du meridians. Once these two channels connect, the three dantian (upper, middle, and lower) are linked, and true qi carries the practitioner’s own spirit and will, becoming their signature, life-bound qi. This breakthrough concept is almost identical to the "Innate" stage in the other world.

The Golden Blade King’s blade energy is packed with his intense spiritual traits, so even when his innate qi leaves his body, it doesn’t just dissipate. If innate blade energy enters you, ordinary internal strength can’t stand up to it. Originally, Yang Qi’s Supreme Six Harmonies Skill was newly cultivated—she’d only sensed qi a few days ago—so there was no way she could counter innate blade energy. But for some reason, her true qi wasn’t just the usual clueless postnatal qi.

In this showdown between true qi and blade energy, the newborn Supreme Six Harmonies Skill showed a fiery, aggressive stance and a never-back-down fighting spirit. Compared to regular internal strength, Yang Qi’s true qi had a hint of spiritual spark—a touch of her own… well, personality. And that little bit of personality played a crucial role in this battle.

“Fight me, will you?” Yang Qi still didn’t open her eyes, but with a flip of her hand, she pulled out a Secondary Meat Pill, crunched it, and swallowed it down. The Supreme Six Harmonies Skill, pure yang and fierce, began to boil. Her dragon-like blood and qi surged, and a faint light shone at her brow—her spirit and will soared.

Suddenly, waves of heat radiated from her whole body, and she became like a blazing furnace. Her essence, qi, and spirit all erupted at once, determined to erase the Golden Blade King’s innate blade energy.

Meanwhile, deep in the underground cave, The Fool’s body suddenly calmed down. The blade energy vanished, leaving the Bright Moon Skill with nothing to target. But the Bright Moon Skill didn’t cause trouble—it was here to help, not make a mess. In his inner vision, Princess Flower Shifter’s energy condensed into a crystal-like pearl, gliding through The Fool’s meridians, radiating a soothing, cool light wherever it went.

“Huh?” Princess Embroidered Jade immediately noticed the change and stared at The Fool in disbelief. “The blade energy’s gone?” It was like a living person had vanished into thin air—in an instant, the Golden Blade King’s blade energy was just gone! “How could it disappear?”

The Fool answered honestly, “My... sister helped me.”

“Sister? Helped you?” Princess Embroidered Jade was even more puzzled. “She’s not here—how could she help you?”

“My sister is also another me. Even if we’re worlds apart, our connection can’t be broken. The blade energy just got transferred to her body.” The Fool always answered honestly, never lying.

“Another... you? Worlds apart? Transferred?” Princess Embroidered Jade was even more confused, but the blade energy’s sudden disappearance was an undeniable fact—she couldn’t argue with what she saw. Still, the whole thing was so bizarre, it was like listening to a foreign language. So she could only ask about what she did understand: “If what you say is true, can your sister handle the Golden Blade King’s blade energy? Without the Bright Moon Skill holding it back, the blade energy might get dangerous.”

“Don’t worry. Her internal strength might be shallow, but I believe she’ll win.” After that brief overlap of the twin sigils, The Fool’s mind felt much clearer—like waking up from another layer of dream in Inception. His expression became lively, almost indistinguishable from a regular person. He looked at Princess Embroidered Jade. “No more obstacles. Let’s begin.”

“Alright.” As long as it didn’t involve anything too embarrassing, Princess Embroidered Jade wasn’t the fussy type. She set aside all distractions, showing the poise of a true martial arts master. “I had you learn the Bright Jade Technique just now to build up your strength and suppress your internal injuries. Now that the blade energy’s gone, there’s no rush. So tell me—do you really want to cultivate the Bright Jade Technique?”

This wasn’t a pointless question. Once you start practicing an internal skill, it’s usually hard to switch. If you pick one that doesn’t suit you, it’s a pain to scrap it and start over. The Bright Moon Divine Skill is extremely yin and cold, and its foundation—the Bright Jade Technique—has that same trait. Men are yang by nature, and guys with strong blood and energy are even more so, so it doesn’t really fit The Fool’s constitution.

The Fool knew it too—if you go by constitution, the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill is actually the best fit. After that brief moment, the method for cultivating the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill was imprinted in his mind, step by step. He knew exactly how to refine essence into qi and strengthen his foundation; every experience Yang Qi had was etched in his memory. If he practiced the Supreme Six Harmonies Skill, he’d see results fast.

But after carefully observing the energy pearl drifting through his meridians, The Fool thought it over and nodded with conviction. “I’ve decided—I like your technique. I want to learn yours.” It was almost instinctive; his constitution might not fit, but his spirit matched this power perfectly. Physical mismatch just means slower progress, but if your spirit doesn’t match, you’ll never get anywhere.

“Good. If you feel that way, you must be destined for the Bright Jade Technique.” Princess Embroidered Jade nodded. “Cultivating internal skills is just refining spirit into qi. If you like the Bright Jade Technique, your future is bright.” She was about to say more, but The Fool suddenly interrupted, frowning: “Wait, did you say—refining ‘spirit’ into qi?”

“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” Princess Embroidered Jade didn’t see the problem.

The Fool asked, confused, “Isn’t it supposed to be refining essence into qi?”

“Refining essence into qi?” Princess Embroidered Jade laughed like she’d just heard nonsense. “If you burn up all your essence, how would you replenish it?”

“Eat, drink, sleep, and take supplements.”

“Ha! That’s wishful thinking.” Princess Embroidered Jade tilted her head, thinking it over. With her level, she quickly realized a bunch of problems: “If you really refined all your essence into qi, the day you lose your skill is the day you die. And food supplements are way too slow—where’s the efficiency? If I’d practiced that way, I’d still be stuck at postnatal stage after twenty years. With no time, there’s no progress. That’s rigid and useless—no strong person would choose it.”

The Fool was stunned. “Then if you refine spirit into qi, how do you replenish your spirit?”

“Every sect has its own secret ways to restore and strengthen the spirit, but there’s a basic method everyone knows—just sleep.” Seeing The Fool’s confusion, Princess Embroidered Jade decided to start with the basics. This was all common knowledge, so she wasn’t worried about Lady Simone eavesdropping.

At first, The Fool was totally lost, but gradually he started to get it. Basically, the cultivation methods in this world are completely different from those in Wu Zhengfeng’s world.

No wonder he always found Princess Embroidered Jade’s energy confusing—he finally understood the key today: her cultivation method is the exact opposite of Wu Zhengfeng’s.

In that world, cultivation centers on the lower dantian—like planting a tree in the ground, refining essence into qi is all about feeding the roots, focusing on the underground part.

First, you build up sixty years of internal strength, open the Ren and Du meridians, link the three essences, and then get a strand of your most compatible original true qi. Step by step, like an assembly line—no skipping. Every sect trains this way, so ten years of skill in one school is pretty much the same as ten years in another. Once you master the moves, you can’t change them. Pine Welcomes Guest is Pine Welcomes Guest—if you want to tweak it, you’ve got to be a breakthrough expert. That’s why people can tell your sect by your moves—if you bust out a slick Huashan sword routine, you’re a Huashan disciple.

But in this world, it’s totally different. The flow of internal energy is the same, but the core of cultivation is in the upper dantian. If you still use the tree analogy, refining spirit into qi is like sunlight and rain—focusing on the branches and leaves, on what’s above ground.

Here, you don’t absolutely need sixty years of skill to reach the innate stage—sometimes a genius figures it out way earlier. Since spirit matters most, a sudden insight can beat ten years of grinding. Even with the same years of skill, there’s a huge difference in strength. If you’ve got strong spirit, fierce will, and guts—and the right advanced method—your power can skyrocket.

And because spirit matters so much, the experts here all have a distinct personal style. Two people practicing throwing knives might use the same technique, but only one can pull off the other’s trick. If Pine Welcomes Guest landed in Lady Simone’s hands, she might just turn it into Pine Entertains Guests.

These two totally different methods lead to totally different results. That world is slow to rise, takes years, but it’s steady. Even when Wu Yazi got beat up by his disciple, he could hang on for ages and didn’t lose any skill. But here, you rise fast, it’s all about talent, but it’s risky. If your will breaks, you might lose your skills—or even your life. Princess Embroidered Jade is the perfect example.

Honestly, it’s kind of like the difference between a state-owned company and a foreign enterprise.

“Refining spirit into qi, huh…” Faced with a completely new system and knowledge, The Fool wasn’t lost—in fact, he was excited. If there’s one thing he’s sure of, it’s his mental strength. To that, he’d just say: “Heh!”
