Blessings from a Past Life
Lena glanced at her with those bright, knowing eyes and said, "Let Aunt Wan come in."
"Mom!" Grace was getting a little anxious.
"Go quickly!" Lena smiled and told Aunt Crystal to go.
Aunt Crystal also thought it was probably the eldest miss causing trouble again, so she went out.
Grace felt deeply hurt.
Was her reputation really that bad?
Her mom didn't trust her at all!
Her heart was so stuffed...
Seeing Grace's furrowed brows, Lena chuckled, "Just be honest with me—what did you do this time?"
"I really didn't do anything..." Grace didn't even know how to explain.
Grace Wan coming at this time was definitely to provoke her mom about the Co-Head Wife thing...
She had sworn up and down in the Council Hall that her mom wouldn't care.
But honestly, what woman wouldn't care about that?
As soon as Grace Wan walked in, she saw Lena sitting in the garden, smiling and chatting with Grace.
She was dressed much more warmly than most people, but she looked a lot healthier than when she used to be bedridden.
That bright smile made everything around them fade away, leaving just the mother and daughter...
Grace Wan lowered her eyes, hiding the murderous intent, and by the time she reached them, her face was full of guilt.
"Madam." She gave a respectful bow.
"The sunshine is lovely today, so let's sit outside for a bit," Lena said with a smile. "Quick, get Aunt Wan a cushion."
"Yes, ma'am." Aunt Crystal put a cushion on another wooden chair.
But Grace Wan didn't sit down. Instead, she stood in front of Lena and said, "I'm sure Grace has already told you about what happened today, Madam?"
"Not yet!" Lena shot Grace a mildly reproachful look and asked, "Did she get into trouble again?"
"So Grace hasn't said anything yet?" Grace Wan looked guilty. "Well, the Emperor came by today!"
"The Emperor? What was he here for?" Lena asked, puzzled.
"Sam Yuan woke up and confirmed that he and Grace are innocent." Grace Wan explained. "It was... Cynthia Zhu who set up the scheme to compete for a spot in the palace..."
"Cynthia Zhu? Competing for a spot in the palace?" Lena was shocked. "She really wants to go to the palace?"
"Sigh!" Grace Wan let out a long breath. "Madam, it's all my fault for not teaching my daughter properly. Please punish me!"
Lena frowned slightly. "You! You're always favoring Grace. If Cynthia Zhu wants to go to the palace, just let her! Why did you report Grace's name instead?"
"Grace is the eldest sister, and tradition says the eldest goes first! Plus, she's always been close to Wendy Zhu—if they go together, they can look out for each other. That's best."
Lena asked worriedly, "Did the Emperor blame Cynthia Zhu? Is she alright?"
Her first concern was always the safety of her children.
Grace Wan's eyes flickered. "I heard Grace pleaded for her today. The Emperor already agreed to spare Cynthia Zhu. Isn't that right, Grace?"
Grace nodded.
Lena gave Grace an approving look.
Grace Wan stepped forward, grasped Grace's hands, her eyes reddening. "Grace, Aunt Wan truly doesn't know how to thank you!"
"Oh, Aunt Wan, don't mention it," Grace said with a smile. "Cynthia Zhu is my little sister! Of course I'd protect her when it matters."
"For Cynthia Zhu to have such a wonderful big sister, she must've burned a lot of incense in her last life!" Grace Wan exclaimed emotionally.
