Unspoken Rules

"Who are you calling a pig?"

The fat guy's face instantly turned ugly at those words. He glared at Lynn Chen, visibly displeased.

Leo Li's expression changed too. He started shouting at Lynn Chen: "Do you even know who he is? He's the assistant to the HR director at Su International Group!"

"Assistant to the HR director, so what? You're still just someone's wage slave. If you can feel superior just from being an employee, you really think you're the emperor's eunuch or something?"

Lynn Chen sneered, her eyes full of disdain as she looked at the fat guy and Leo Li.

She knew Su International Group was a famous company in the Capitalview area, but as a foreign trade firm, it hardly ever worked with Wansheng Properties (Capitalview), which Charles Chen ran. So Lynn Chen had no reason to be scared or worried.

Irene Xu, standing nearby, nodded repeatedly at Lynn Chen's words. "So just being an assistant makes you all-powerful now? You act like the company belongs to your family—where do you get the nerve? Flaunting your title as if it means anything. What, you think you can just have us arrested or something?"

Stella Huang, caught in the middle, looked pretty annoyed too.

Hearing Lynn Chen and Irene Xu's remarks, both Leo Li and the fat guy looked even more embarrassed and angry.

"Let go of me!"

Stella Huang couldn't break free, so in a burst of anger, she stomped hard on Leo Li's foot. He gasped in pain and yanked his hand back.

"Fine, fine! You girls really know how to play!"

Hearing Irene Xu and the others, the fat guy's face changed. He pointed at them, about to say something.

Behind him, a middle-aged man at the table stood up with a serious face. "What's happening at the door, Xiao Li, Fatty, what are you two arguing about?"

Beside the man sat two girls in short skirts.

The girls were pretty by normal standards. They'd just been eating and drinking with the men at the table, but now, hearing the commotion outside, the man immediately walked over.

"Director, it's the other girl I mentioned before—Stella Huang's roommate, Lana Yu and Melissa Xu's friend."

Leo Li, still nursing his aching foot, hurried to the door and started explaining to the middle-aged man.

"Oh, the female reporter, right?"

The middle-aged man nodded and strode out. Lana Yu and Melissa Xu, hearing this, exchanged glances and followed him out.

Right now, both Lana Yu and Melissa Xu were seniors. They'd already sent their resumes to Su International Group and passed the interviews, but the official offer never came through.

Without the HR director's signature, all those interviews would be for nothing. And Su International Group was a rare, top company—if you got in and worked hard, you might even be able to afford a down payment on a place in Capitalview in a few years.

Neither of them wanted to give up, and under Leo Li's persuasion, they ended up coming to this dinner with the HR director.

The HR director's surname was Su, and rumor had it he was related to the influential Su family of Jinnan. He looked like a typical wolf in sheep's clothing. Even during dinner, he'd been groping them under the table, but as fresh graduates, they had no way to fight back.

As soon as Director Victor Su walked out and saw Stella Huang and her two friends, his face froze for a second. Then he spoke: "Not bad, all three of you look great. Come in and have dinner with us. We can talk about work at the table."

"Director Su has spoken, Xingyue. Come on in—this is way more promising than that reporter job of yours," Leo Li said, turning to Stella Huang.

"You two come in too. Have a drink with us and maybe, if I'm in a good mood, your jobs will get sorted out!" The fat guy grinned.

"Sorry, I already told you—I'm not interested in your jobs. If you keep pestering me, I'll call the police." Stella Huang's face turned cold as she pulled Irene Xu and Lynn Chen to leave.

"Stella Huang, right? You want to leave, that's fine. But your two roommates are still here eating. You're not going to join them?" Director Victor Su's face stayed calm as he looked at Stella's back. "They're hoping to get into our company, but they're still under evaluation. Only if they pass will they become interns at Su International Group."

"But I've always believed that birds of a feather flock together. If you want to do well in the company, you have to know how to behave. But seeing your attitude, I really have to question your roommates' abilities and character now."

Director Victor Su's tone was casual, a faint smile on his lips.

The moment he said that, Stella Huang froze in her tracks.

Irene Xu and Lynn Chen's expressions changed too.

Anyone could hear it—Director Victor Su's words were a blatant threat.

"Xingyue..."

Lana Yu and Melissa Xu, who had just come over, peeked out and saw Stella Huang and her friends at the door. Their faces turned a bit awkward.

"Go on, Stella Huang. You wanted to leave, right? No one's stopping you. Director Su can't control a star reporter like you, but he sure can decide who gets into the company and who doesn't, can't he?"

Leo Li grinned smugly. "Whether Lana Yu and Melissa Xu get in or not all depends on Director Su's word. Go ahead, keep walking. Just don't look back."

Lana Yu and Melissa Xu didn't come from wealthy families, but they were good people and had always gotten along well with Stella Huang over the years.

"Xiao Li, that's not quite right. When I pick people for the company, I look at overall quality. And of course, who you hang out with is part of that quality too." Director Victor Su nodded slightly.

"This is going way too far." Irene Xu's face was full of indignation.

Lynn Chen was furious too, but the adult world was still something she couldn't fully grasp.

She couldn't stand these dirty unspoken rules, but there was nothing she could do to change them.

Stella Huang hesitated, her steps faltering. After a moment, she turned around. Seeing the pitiful looks on Lana Yu and Melissa Xu's faces, she couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt.

"What, coming back now? Weren't you leaving?" Leo Li laughed. "Of course, if you stay and have a drink with Director Su, maybe your roommates' jobs will be set. Su International Group is a dream job for so many people."

Su International Group—now that's the kind of company everyone dreams of.

Leo Li kept up his persuasive act.

"I'll drink, then I'm leaving. You can't give them a hard time." Stella Huang took a deep breath. In the end, she just couldn't bring herself to abandon Lana Yu and Melissa Xu.

"Of course, I'm not unreasonable," Leo Li nodded. "By the way, where's your little boyfriend? Why isn't he here?"

"If he were here, he could pour Director Su a few drinks too. Who knows, maybe after graduation we'd even find him a spot at Su International Group."

Leo Li let out a cold laugh.

Little boyfriend?

Lynn Chen froze when she heard that.
