Paying the Bill

"Qingsong, what just happened back there?" Sisi Shao hesitated for a long moment before finally speaking up, glancing at Liam Li beside her.

"Why did Henry look so... so scared?" Cathy Li couldn't help but ask.

Liam Li glanced at Evan Lin and Summer Mu, both looking perfectly calm. He took a deep breath, then shook his head. "It's nothing. Henry probably just had too much to drink and started rambling. Don't worry about it."

"I think I heard Henry apologizing over and over. What was he apologizing for? And to whom?" Maggie Ma looked puzzled. In her eyes, Henry was always a big shot, so she couldn't figure out why he'd act that way.

"Maybe he was just reminded of something from the past. Guys tend to get sentimental after drinking. It's nothing to overthink," Summer Mu replied with a slight smile.

"Yeah, maybe," Liam nodded. He still felt something was off, but quickly pushed the thought aside.

Henry Zhang—what kind of person is he, anyway?

He's the manager here, after all. Apologizing? No way he'd apologize to nobodies like Evan Lin or Summer Mu, right?

Impossible, just thinking about it makes no sense.

With that thought, Liam Li immediately dismissed his doubts.

"The wine should be ready by now. Honestly, this bottle's reputation is way overblown. It's been aged so long that there's always a bit of sourness when you drink it."

Summer Mu stood up, picked up the clear decanter of Lafite from the table, and poured Evan Lin a full glass.

"Who pours wine like that? You're supposed to just cover the bottom of the glass," Liam Li couldn't help but wince seeing Summer Mu's style.

Even though he didn't have to pay for this 1982 Lafite, watching Summer Mu "waste" it like that made Liam Li's heart ache. He'd never even tasted a bottle like this before.

He snatched the bottle from Summer Mu, then poured just enough for everyone to wet the bottom of their glasses. Picking up his own, Liam gave it a gentle swirl, looking smug. "Wine isn't like beer or baijiu. You have to savor it—let your tongue feel the smoothness. Chugging half a glass at once is just a waste."

After swirling his glass, Liam finally took a tiny sip, wearing a look of utter enjoyment.

Evan Lin picked up his glass and took a big swig. "Kinda sour. Not that great," he said bluntly.

He set his glass down without a second thought.

Sisi Shao snorted. "I told you, you're supposed to sip and savor wine! Drinking like that is like Zhu Bajie eating ginseng fruit—you won't taste anything that way!"

"Bumpkin. If you don't know how to appreciate it, at least don't waste it," Lillian Wang rolled her eyes at Evan.
