Beastcatcher Scent

Grace nodded and helped her mother walk away.

When they arrived at the Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu’s place, they saw Aunt Crystal kneeling on the ground, trying to explain herself: "Dowager Lady, it’s true I made the clothes, but I swear I didn’t put any Beastcatcher Scent on them!"

When Grace heard the words 'Beastcatcher Scent,' she suddenly understood.

The Beastcatcher Vine is a large carnivorous plant that produces a very special aromatic sap.

Spirit beasts absolutely love this scent; they’re often drawn to it, only to end up being eaten...

Apparently, Grace Wan blamed Aunt Crystal for the two spirit beasts attacking her at the same time, saying it was all because of the clothes Aunt Crystal made for her.

"Mother, Lady Blue Moon." Lena led Grace inside.

"What are you here for?" Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu was holding the clothes, her face dark and stormy.

After Lena entered, she said firmly, "Mother, this has nothing to do with Aunt Crystal."

Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Then who is responsible?"

"I don’t know either," Lena said. "But it definitely wasn’t Aunt Crystal who did it."

"Didn’t Aunt Crystal personally sew this outfit?" Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu weighed the gold-embroidered robe in her hands.

"She did make it herself, but the Beastcatcher Scent wasn’t put on by her."

"Madam, you need evidence before making accusations!" Lucy chimed in from the side. "Aunt Crystal delivered the outfit herself. I put it straight into the wardrobe and never touched it again. It wasn’t touched until yesterday, when Lady Blue Moon wore it. If it wasn’t her, then who could it be?"

Lena looked at Lucy, paused for a moment, and asked, "The outfit was in the wardrobe the whole time and never moved?"

Unlike Grace Wan’s sharp authority, Lena’s whole aura was gentle.

But her eyes were so clear and piercing that, under her gaze, Lucy suddenly felt stripped bare, as if she had nowhere to hide and nothing to cover herself.

"Of course!" Lucy replied, her tone a bit curt but determined. "I personally take care of Lady Blue Moon’s clothes. I’m sure no one touched them."

"Do you know what happens if you lie in front of the Dowager Lady?" Lena asked again.

"I haven’t lied, and I don’t need to know about that," Lucy retorted, her tone stiff and strong.

Lena pondered for a moment, then turned to Grace Wan: "Lady Blue Moon, do you think she’s lying?"

Grace Wan looked at Lena’s calm expression, her eyes narrowing slightly.

Truth is, after the outfit was delivered, it was washed.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have dared to wear it.

But Lena couldn’t possibly know what happened in Snowdrop Garden.

After running the household for so many years, she was sure Lena had no people inside Snowdrop Garden.

She must be bluffing, just trying to get Aunt Crystal off the hook.

Thinking of this, Grace Wan said, "Lucy has always been an honest person. She’s never lied about these things."

"I suggest you ask Lucy again," Lena said.

Grace Wan kept her face neutral. "Madam, what do you mean by that?"

"After the outfit was delivered, it was washed," Lena said. "Everyone knows Beastcatcher Scent disappears when it touches water. So there’s no way Aunt Crystal did it."

Lucy demanded angrily, "How do you know it was washed, Madam? Did you actually see it yourself?"

Lena replied, "I didn’t see it myself."
