This Can't Be Let Go So Easily
Arthur Evans sighed, "I understand the logic, but after all, he's my own brother. In this world, he's the only sibling I have left. How can I just ignore him?"
Mrs. Charlotte Evans said, "Husband, I'm not saying we shouldn't help him, but we can't just hand over the money so easily. How about this, I'll go to Prince of Jin's residence for a visit. Sam has also asked Lily for a loan. I'll talk things over with Lily and see what we should do."
Arthur Evans nodded, silently agreeing to Mrs. Charlotte Evans's plan.
Mrs. Charlotte Evans put aside her work and immediately ordered a carriage to head to the Prince of Jin's residence.
"Aunt Charlotte, you're here! I was just about to look for you." Lily Evans greeted her warmly as Mrs. Charlotte Evans entered.
Margaret Evans and Dr. Rowan Lin were also present. They had come after hearing Lily Evans had recovered, intending to discuss Sam Evans's situation with her.
Just as they finished talking, Mrs. Charlotte Evans arrived.
"Lily, I've been thinking—we can't just let Sam be taken advantage of like this." Mrs. Charlotte Evans looked worried. "Sam is such an honest man, never means harm to anyone, and dotes on Lana like she's a precious jewel. I can't stand seeing Lana use her father's love and trust to team up with outsiders and hurt him like this!"
Everyone present was outraged by Lana Evans's behavior.
As for Jasper Cheng, well, he's just an outsider. If he schemes against Sam Evans, there's no blood tie or family bond between them—he's just a scoundrel, that's all.
But look at Lana Evans—she actually schemed against her own father. Is she blind? Can't she see that in this world, her father is the only one who truly loves her, without any calculation?
Now even Susan Evans is using Lana Evans as a tool, leveraging her to continue getting back at Sam Evans and to dig more money out of him.
Margaret Evans said, "We can't just let Lana Evans scheme against her father like this. It's truly disheartening."
Mrs. Charlotte Evans said, "Right now, Sam Evans trusts Lana implicitly. Everything he says and does implies that Lana could never harm him. Sigh, he just doesn't want to believe that Lana has changed—she's no longer that little girl from Clearwater Village who used to cling to her father."
"The hearts of parents everywhere are truly pitiful," Lily Evans sighed, lowering her head to gently touch her own belly.
Before she had a child, Lily Evans didn't really understand this feeling. But now, with a new life growing inside her, connected by blood, she thought: if her own child ever teamed up with outsiders to go against her or scheme against her, she wouldn't want to believe it either.
After all, the truth is just too hard for loving parents to accept.
Mrs. Charlotte Evans said, "But I just can't stand to hand over the money like this! Five thousand taels of silver—if I threw it into the river, I wouldn't care, but thinking of it being spent by Jasper Cheng, Lana Evans, and Susan Evans, it makes me sick! I'd rather give it to beggars!"
"Aunt Charlotte is right, we can't just let that family off so easily," Lily Evans said. "Actually, the key to solving this is all with Uncle Sam. Right now, he's completely under Lana Evans's spell, and he feels extremely guilty about her kidnapping. That's why he fell for their scheme. If we can just get Uncle Sam to see clearly what Lana Evans has become, then he'll wake up and stop being used."
"But what can we do? Susan Evans and Lana Evans are both so persuasive, and they're with Sam Evans every day. No matter what we say, we can't get as close to him as his own wife and daughter. How can we change his mind and make him see the truth?" Mrs. Charlotte Evans frowned, troubled. Getting Sam Evans to wake up—now that's not going to be easy at all.
