Gregory Gu Jr. was shaken back and forth by Princess May tugging at his clothes, yet he couldn't utter a single word.

Though he was clever and resourceful, when faced with overwhelming force, all his cunning schemes were useless.

Gregory Gu Jr. pressed his lips together, his face pale as a sheet, his body trembling uncontrollably.

In the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, the Chu Kingdom’s guards were utterly defeated, all slain by the people Sophie White had brought.

As for Sophie White’s people, only two suffered minor injuries. The difference in fighting power was clear; victory and defeat were instantly decided.

Seeing all her people dead, Princess May realized that only she—a pregnant woman—and Gregory Gu Jr.—a mere scholar—were left. They couldn’t fight, couldn’t run; death was certain!

"I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die!" Princess May panicked and collapsed to the ground.

Sophie White looked at Princess May with contempt and said, "So you’re Princess May, the Princess Consort of Ling, and Princess of Chu? You had the nerve to poison Lily Evans and harm the child in her womb. I thought you were some heroic woman, a true champion among ladies, but you’re just a coward, scared out of your wits! Hahaha!"

Sophie White laughed loudly, making Princess May shiver and crawl on the ground, repeating, "I didn’t mean to—who told Lily Evans to kill my husband! She ruined my wealth and status, stole my son’s kingdom, so I wanted to ruin her son!"

Sophie White stopped laughing, looked at Princess May, and said, "Now that’s some guts, I’ll give you that. Tsk…"

Then Sophie White’s gaze landed on Gregory Gu Jr., sizing him up and down: "So you’re the infamous Gregory Gu Jr., always going head-to-head with General Alexander Hayes. Tsk tsk, you do have a pretty face, a real dandy, but too bad… there’s nothing left below. You’re not a man anymore."

Gregory Gu Jr. instinctively shielded his lower half with one hand. The memory of being smashed by Alexander Hayes at the city gate flashed before his eyes, and a phantom pain shot through him. Shame and hatred twisted his face. "A gentleman may be killed but never humiliated! Since I’ve fallen into your hands today, just kill me if you want—why must you disgrace me like this?"

Sophie White looked at the two, their pitiful state clearly amusing her. She drew the long sword at her waist and swung it around, making it look like she might chop them up at any moment.

Princess May shut her eyes in despair, waiting for death. Gregory Gu Jr. braced himself for the end. But unexpectedly, Sophie White spun on her heel and lunged at the nine black-clad figures behind her, sword flashing.

Those nine subordinates were the cream of the crop, but none expected Deputy White to suddenly attack them without warning.

In a flash, Sophie White ambushed all nine, killing them one by one. Her sword dripped with blood, spattering her face, but she didn’t care. She wiped the blood off and turned to look at the stunned Gregory Gu Jr. and Princess May.

"Surprised, Lord Gu?" Sophie White casually wiped her sword, a mocking smile on her lips as she watched Gregory Gu Jr.’s expression.

Gregory Gu Jr. snapped out of his shock and looked at Sophie White with a complicated expression. "Deputy White, you’re General Alexander Hayes’s most trusted lieutenant. Why would you do this?"

"I have my reasons," Sophie White replied, kicking aside a corpse that blocked her way. She sat down on a large rock and looked up at Gregory Gu Jr. and Princess May. "Princess of Chu, I’m not killing you because you did something I wanted to do, but never did."
