Lexi Le finally understood that he wasn't a true gentleman, but rather a counterfeit created by careful packaging.
So he never got lost in that fake identity or lost himself.
But Cassie, on the other hand, gradually became addicted to it and couldn't pull herself out.
Cassie even started fantasizing about when Lexi would propose to her, which designer she’d choose for her wedding dress, where to hold the ceremony, and how many kids they’d have in the future.
Ever since Lexi successfully borrowed the first sum of money, getting the second and third became just a matter of course.
That day, Lexi came home looking gloomy again, went straight to bed, and didn’t even hug Cassie like he used to.
This surprised Cassie and made her a little uneasy.
"Honey, what’s wrong?" Cassie came in, sat on the edge of the bed, and looked at Lexi with worry.
Lexi buried his face in the pillow and said in a muffled voice, "I’m not in a good mood. Leave me alone, let me calm down."
"Honey, if something’s bothering you, just tell me. We’ll face it together." Cassie said gently.
This was Cassie at her gentlest, no doubt about it.
Lexi said worriedly, "Remember last time I told you I invested all my money with some friends?"
"I remember," Cassie nodded.
"I put three hundred million into it. They said I’d at least double my money, but…" Lexi sighed, looking utterly defeated. "But I didn’t expect the investment to fail, and now all the money is stuck. My mom still thinks I’ve made a fortune and keeps bragging at home. If my family finds out I lost everything, my mom will be looked down on and bullied again. You have no idea how snobbish my relatives are…"
Seeing Lexi so upset, Cassie felt sad too and tried to comfort him: "It’s okay, the money’s gone, but you still have shares."
"Yeah, we still have shares." Lexi nodded. "Thank goodness for you. Otherwise, I’d have lost everything."
Even though Lexi said that, his face was still full of disappointment.
Cassie’s heart ached for him again.
She didn’t want to see Lexi so upset.
So Cassie went to her father again: "Daddy, can you give me some more money?"
"Why do you need more money again?" Albert Kofi was stunned by how much his daughter, Cassie Kofi, could spend.
"Daddy! You never used to question my spending." Cassie pouted. "I'm just asking for a little pocket money and you act like this. Don't you love me anymore?"
Recently, Albert Kofi had secretly sold off two rare earth mines and a large section of jungle, pocketing a huge sum of money.
Albert Kofi really wasn’t short on cash anymore.
Hearing his daughter’s whining, Albert Kofi quickly said, "Alright, alright, I won’t ask. How much do you need, my dear Cassie? Isn’t it time you came home?"
"Just give me another hundred million." Cassie said boldly, "When I’ve had enough fun, I’ll come home on my own!"
"That much money...?"
"Daddy! Didn’t I tell you? I’m seeing someone now, and his family is super influential. There’s a great investment opportunity and I want in." Cassie lied smoothly. "Once I make money, I’ll come home and spoil you!"
Albert Kofi was so delighted by her sweet talk that he got dizzy and immediately wired the money.
Now that she’d spent the money, Cassie had to figure out how to earn it back!
So Albert Kofi approached Ethan Yin again. "Mr. Yin, are you interested in buying anything else?"
In the past few days, he’d already sold quite a few things to Ethan Yin.
Mines, jungle, rare medicines, you name it.
Ethan Yin immediately realized that Cassie was asking him for money again.
His rule was: never turn down easy money. And, of course, he wanted to stand up for his girlfriend. As long as the price was right, Ethan Yin was all in!
"Clan Chief, what are you selling me this time?" Ethan Yin asked coolly. "I’m not interested in anything ordinary."
"So, Mr. Yin, what catches your eye?"
"I heard your bird’s nest is top-notch—rare but excellent quality. My mom’s tired of the usual stuff, so I want to get her something new." Ethan Yin said. "I’ll need a lot, can you make the call?"
The Clan Chief hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said, "Alright, how much do you want?"
"All of it." Ethan Yin replied with a smile. "Also, I heard you have a gemstone mine. It’s not super valuable, but my girlfriend loves gems…"
"Deal, I’ll sell them all together!" It wasn’t the first time, and the Clan Chief was already numb to it.
The Clan Chief had lost his mind.
Ethan Yin smiled. "Clan Chief, you’re straightforward. Let’s talk price…"
After an hour of negotiation, the prices were settled quickly.
Ethan Yin was just as decisive—he wired half the deposit right away and sent people to handle the paperwork.
Maybe the Yin Family was worried the Clan Chief wouldn’t last long in his position, so they sent a lot of people, plus all kinds of machinery.
Except for the bird’s nest, which couldn’t be packed up, all the minerals and gems were mined and shipped out, stone and all.
With all that heavy machinery, it took less than half a month to haul away an entire mountain.
Meanwhile, the Clan Chief kept raking in cash.
Everyone in the clan thought the Yin Family only paid a little, but most of the money was actually pocketed by the Clan Chief.
Pretty much everything worth buying had been bought.
It was time to close the net.
As Ethan Yin’s team wrapped things up, they casually chatted with a local manager, deliberately dropping hints about the real purchase prices.
"Hey, you guys sold a ton of mineral resources. You must’ve made a fortune, right? The Yin Family is generous—they pay up, no questions asked," said one of Ethan Yin’s people.
"Not at all, we sold them cheap," replied the local.
"No way! None of this is cheap. Take this mine, for example—Mr. Yin paid two billion for it!" Ethan Yin’s associate said.
"What did you say?" The local was shocked. "Two billion?"
"That’s right! And the gemstone mine—our chairman’s wife loves gems, so we dropped five hundred million on it!"
"Five hundred million? Wasn’t it three hundred million?"
"Are you kidding? I was there when we signed the contract—it was definitely five hundred million!"
"And the rest? How much did everything else go for?"
"One went for one and a half billion, another for a billion, and oh, one was paid in gold—about two tons, I think…"
"I’m going to ask about this!" The local couldn’t sit still and rushed off.
Ethan Yin’s team member smiled, quietly savoring his success.
The Yin Family team took their goods and left without a care.
But the mess left for the Clan Chief exploded all at once!
"Clan Chief, explain yourself! Why did Ethan Yin’s people say the mine sold for two billion, but you told us it was only one and a half? Where’s the missing five hundred million?"
"Yeah! And what about the bird’s nest mining rights—how much did you really sell them for?"
"And the gemstones—what’s the real price?"
"We demand you make all the money public! It belongs to all of us!"
"Yeah, we want it all out in the open!"
...
Even those who originally supported the Clan Chief now demanded he show the books.
And those who competed with the Clan Chief pounced on the chance to kick him while he was down.
Now the Clan Chief was finally scared.
But it was already too late.
The money he’d embezzled was either spent on bribes or transferred to his daughter, Cassie Kofi, or secretly stashed in a Swiss bank.
Now they wanted him to cough it up—how could he?
And so, the Clan Chief’s corruption was exposed.
With everyone furious, the Clan Chief was quickly ousted, his house ransacked, and all the valuables looted.
